“Broad Haven UFO sightings marked 40 years on”

4 February 2017
(BBC, London, UK)

On 4 February 1977, 14 pupils at the Broad Haven County Primary School (Pembrokeshire, South Wales, UK) claimed that they had sighted a cigar-shaped object with a dome and a humanoid being with pointed ears that stood near the landed, unknown object.

Wikipedia article: “Broad Haven”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“On 4 February 1977, a yellow cigar-shaped craft is believed to have landed in a field next to Broadhaven Primary School. A group of 14 children playing football saw the craft and a silver creature. The headmaster, Ralph Llewellyn, asked the children to draw the craft and he was surprised how similar the drawings were.”

UFO Journal Issue:
“New BUFORA Journal”

October 2002, Issue No. 4
(British UFO Research Association (BUFORA), Wingham, UK)

This issue contains the article entitled “A WELSH MISCELLANY – Part Two.”

BUFORA presents a report on the 1977 South Wales, UK, UFO ‘flap’ in the article.

The article reports on the following UFO incidents that occurred at Welsh schools in February 1977:
3 February: Nine girls and a teacher sighted a silvery, cigar shaped UFO with a dome on top at the Rhos-y-Bol (Anglesey) County Primary School at 3:20 p.m. Anglesey is an island off the north west coast of Wales.

3 February: A cigar shaped UFO flew over the Herbrandston School buildings at playtime, according to the article.

4 February 1977: On this date, 14 pupils at the Broad Haven County Primary School (Pembrokeshire, South Wales, UK) claimed that they had sighted a cigar shaped object with a dome and a being with pointed ears that stood near the unknown object.

10 February: An orange-coloured, oval UFO was sighted by two skateboarding boys at Haverfordwest Grammar School.

17 February: A Broad Haven County Primary School teacher saw a large, shiny, metallic, oval object in the sky. The unknown object, which had a small dome, ‘had a number of ridges,’ according to BUFORA.

NOTE: A map of South Wales is presented on Page 10.

UFO News Article:
“MULTIPLE WITNESSES REPORT
UFO LANDINGS IN ITALY AND SPAIN”

19 March 1975
(The Register, Santa Ana, California)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“At first Roberto Imolesi thought the sky object he saw was a reflection on his car’s windshield. But when one of his four passengers saw the glow, too, he stopped the vehicle.

‘I noticed a light in the distance at the center of the highway, right above the white line,’ says Imolesi, describing his alleged encounter with an unidentified flying object at Barbiano, Italy, July 8, 1974. At least six other witnesses, in addition to police officers, support Imolesi’s story.

‘I got out of the car,’ Imolesi continues, ‘and noticed that the light, yellow and dark, was at the center of a huge ‘wing,’ not very well defined in the darkness. I had the impression that it was in the form of a cap with a visor. . .’

Imolesi estimated the size of the domed disc as 45 feet in diameter.

‘After we stopped,’ he says, ‘the light rose and I began to squat and to make gestures with my hands to call attention of other passing autos. The mysterious object then made a change in position, flying in the form of a circle, returning to the point of departure.

‘I searched in vain to follow it. I met some farmers who also had observed the very same phenomenon.’

Settimio Zambrini, a resident of Barbiano, confirmed Imolesi’s account by relating a similar sighting in the area, as did several other local men. All witnesses said the light moved in the same direction, toward the mountains and the sea.

Police, alerted by callers, saw a glowing object at about 1:30 a.m., July 9—the same night.

A few hours before, police in Ravenna, Italy, also received reports of a swiftly moving mystery light, flying across the highway to Ravenna, at an altitude of about 30 feet.

On the morning of July 9, a farmer discovered strange ground markings in the area of the Imolesi sightings. The man claims that the physical traces were not visible the previous day, because he had not seen them although he had cut grass at the trace location. The markings were a large circle (25 feet in diameter, with a circular impression 2 ½ to 3 inches wide in each circle). In addition, some ‘strange and very thin powder of some sort’ was found near the rings.

Another possible landing report comes from Spain. On Jan. 2, 1975, a UFO apparently touched down on an aircraft firing range at Bardenas Reales.

According to a Madrid newspaper, ‘Informaciones,’ the sighting was made public by a Lt. Campos, a firing range staff member. But not many details are available because of tight military security pending a complete hearing on the matter.

In addition to Campos, other military personnel from the Spanish Third Air Force Region apparently also saw the object. It gave off bright, rapid flashes during the short time it was on the ground. After taking off, the object shot away and ‘immediately was lost in the sky,’ according to the Madrid newspaper.

Adding mystery to the sighting is the report that a similar object was observed in the same area in 1972. At the time the ‘strange and luminous object’ was seen, a North American Phantom jet crashed. Two crewmen parachuted to safety.

The current issue of the Mutual UFO Network journal (Skylook, published in Quincy, Ill.) describes both the Italian and Spanish reports and observes regarding the firing range incident: ‘Two guards of the Hydrographic Confederation, who witness the 1972 crash, said they observed something similar to a luminous ball ‘of the size of a balloon when it was close and of a pinhead when it was farther away,’ which gyrated in all directions over the zone where the airplanes were.’

Although at least two crashes of military aircraft in the United States appear UFO-linked, no positive proof of UFO hostility has been found (unless such information has been withheld by officials.)”

My comment:
Bardenas Reales Air-to-Ground Bombing and Gunnery Range is located about 72 kilometres (45 miles) north west of Zaragoza Air Base, according to Wikia.org.

Wikia.org article: “Zaragoza Air Base”:

Quote from the Wikia.org article:
“Zaragoza Air Base (IATA: ZAZ, ICAO: LEZG) was a NATO military airbase located near Zaragoza, Spain. It was located 16 kilometres (10 mi) west of Zaragoza, 270 km (168 mi) west of Barcelona, and 262 km (163 mi) northeast of Madrid.

It was closed as a NATO base in April 1992 after the US Air Force had been asked to move out, but continues be a major base for the Spanish Air Force. Today it also functions as Zaragoza Airport.

406th Tactical Fighter Training Wing

In February 1970 Project Creek Step called for the buildup of Zaragoza AB as a USAFE weapons training site, with actual use of the Bardenas Reales Air-to-Ground Bombing and Gunnery Range (about 72 km (40 mi) northwest of the base) began in March.

With the closure of Wheelus Air Base, Zaragoza returned to active status on 19 February 1970 with the activation of the 406th Tactical Fighter Training Group. The 406th was elevated to Wing status on 21 July 1972.

Although the 406th had no permanently assigned aircraft, the Wing provided support to all USAFE tactical aircraft which used the Zaragoza range, as well as deployed SAC and TAC units, as well as allied NATO units.

Beginning in September 1972, the 406th also operated the USAFE Tactical Forces Employment School, and in May 1976, began operating the USAFE Instructor Pilot School. Weapons training detachments were principally F-4 aircraft, although F-111s used the wing's ranges for a short period in 1974, and U.S. Navy A-7s used range facilities in June 1974. During November 1976, the 406th TFTW began full maintenance support of an SAC KC-135 detachment on a permanent basis.

On 12 September 1977, another facet was added to the wing’s training operations when it conducted the first Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT) missions with USAF and U.S. Navy aircraft.”

UFO Case Report:
“UFO OBSERVED OVER SUBMARINE BASE AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS FACILITY – April 22, 1998”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
“Synopsis: From between approximately 2120 hrs. and 2130 hrs. (Pacific Daylight Time), one or more objects, variously described as a blue-green sphere, an oval of blue-green light, or a disc with six lights on it, was reported from multiple points throughout western Washington State. The object was reported to change direction of flight on at least three occasions, to execute a rolling maneuver on at least one occasion, to come to an almost complete stop in two locations, to reverse its general course of travel from south to north, and to change its appearance, including its color, on at least two occasions. One reliable observer witnessed the object to pass slowly over the center of Bangor Submarine Base on Hood Canal, approximately 20-30 miles to the west of Seattle, passing directly over the underground bunkers where nuclear weapons are thought to be stored. In excess of a dozen seemingly independent and reliable reports regarding the alleged sightings were received by the National UFO Reporting Center between April 22 and May 11.

Summary of Witness Reports:

1. Snohomish County, WA: A 16-yr. old male and his mother, located approximately 15-20 miles north of Seattle, witnessed a blue-green object suddenly descend from the sky, hover, and then accelerate to the south-southwest and disappear in that direction at approximately 2120 hrs. (PDT).

2. Poulsbo, WA: Larry Swanson, a former federal employee and computer specialist, who resides approximately ¼ mile from the northeast corner of the Bangor Submarine Base, allegedly witnessed a brightly lighted, disc-shaped object glide silently over the center of that military facility at approximately 2122 hrs. The object tilted somewhat, so the witness was able to see the ventral side of the object quite clearly, he reports. A computer-generated graphic, provided by the witness, is shown above.

3. Auburn, WA: A man out walking his dog witnessed a perfectly circular, blue-green ball of light descend from north to south in the western sky at 2120 hrs. at a very high velocity.

4. Puyallup, WA: A man driving to work witnessed a striking blue-green ball of light descending at a 30-35 degree angle from north to south in the western sky at a very high velocity.

5. Shelton, WA: A young father witnessed a blue-green ball of light streak across the sky to the west of his location.

6. Oakville, WA: A mother and her two sons, driving west on State Route 12, located to the west of Interstate 5, witnessed a ‘disc shaped’ object, imbedded in a cloud of blue-green light, streak from north to south in the western sky. The object appeared to ‘follow the contour’ of the horizon, dipping down suddenly, and then rising up again during its rapid flight to the south. The object was reported to generate a peculiar ‘tail,’ which streamed off the aft end of the object for a fleeting instant. All three witnesses believed they observed three lights on the top of the disc, and three lights on its ventral side, as well.

7. Steilacoom, WA: A woman witnessed a blue-green ball of light streak from north to south in the western sky at 2123 hrs..

8. Vancouver, WA: A husband and wife witnessed a blue-green ball of light move slowly from north to south in the western sky. Very peculiar appearance to the object, they reported, with a peculiar looking “mist” surrounding the object.

9. Portland, OR: A young musician witnessed a blue-green ball of light move from west to east in the northern sky from his vantage point in the city of Portland, OR.

10. Vancouver, WA: A male Ph.D. in computer science, driving north on Interstate 5 witnessed a blue-green ball of light, that seemed to him to descend vertically ahead of his automobile and hover momentarily above the highway. The witness added that he had experienced some very unusual emotional reactions to the event.

11. Yakima, WA: A law enforcement officer witnessed a blue-green ball of light moving at a very high velocity from south to north for approximately 2 seconds. During his sighting, the object suddenly changed its color from green to red. The sighting occurred at 2130 hrs., the witness thought.

Wikipedia article: “Naval Submarine Base Bangor”:

The whole Wikipedia article:
“Naval Submarine Base Bangor is a former submarine base of the United States Navy that was merged with Naval Station Bremerton into Naval Base Kitsap in 2004.[1]

History

The Naval Support Base Bangor's naval history began in 1942 when it became a site for shipping ammunition to the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. For an expansion and to establish a permanent naval base, the U.S. Navy purchased 7,676 acres (3100 hectares) of land on the Hood Canal near the town of Bangor for approximately $18.7 million. The U.S. Naval ammunition magazine was established on June 5, 1944, for its construction, and it began operations in January 1945.

Beginning in World War II, and through the Korean War and the Vietnam War, until January 1973, the Bangor Annex continued its service as a U.S. Navy Ammunition Depot responsible for shipping conventional weapons abroad.

In 1973, the Navy announced the selection of the Bangor base as the home port for the first squadron of Ohio-class Trident Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines. On February 1, 1977, the Trident Submarine Base was officially activated. Naval Base Kitsap includes the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) which provides maintenance, calibration, missile assembly/test, spare parts, and spare nuclear warhead storage for the Trident II ballistic missiles that are carried by the nuclear submarines.

This Trident submarine base is the sole one for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, with the Trident submarine base at Kings Bay, Georgia, for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet being the only other one.”

UFO Case Report (E-mail):
“Subject: Groveton MO, February 9, 1968”

By Joan Woodward, 26 November 2005
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO case report:
“Animal Reaction Feature:
In the early morning darkness, the witness heard cows in a pasture in front of his house bawling as if frightened. He looked out a window and saw a large circular object hovering 20 to 25 feet above the ground and 300 to 350 feet from the house.  The glow associated with the object was bright enough that the witness could see furniture in the house, could see limbs on trees, and the fence between the pasture and house. The glow also allowed him to see the cattle that were in a rough semicircle about 100 to 200 feet from the object. Some cows with calves were bawling and being answered by calves. Then one cow whirled and ran toward the barn, followed within seconds by all the others. Throughout the sighting there was a distinct swishing sound (like a piece of wire whirled at high speed) with a pulsating rhythm.

The Sighting:
This sighting is included on the list of Blue Book ‘Unknowns (#12235).’  The time of the sighting was reported as 4:30 am by Skylook (1970) and as 3:20 am by Hynek (1977). The witness resides on a farm. He is nearsighted (but can drive without glasses) and viewed these events without glasses. Hynek felt he was a stable, factual witness. His house sits ¼ mile from a road and the pasture is between the house and the road.

After being alerted as described above and seeing the cattle run toward the barn, the witness focused on the object. He saw a circular object estimated as 100 feet in diameter with at least one concave side from which came yellow-green light. The witness saw 7 openings in the center of the concave side. Without glasses he was not sure if the openings were round or square, but estimated them to be 2 to 2.5 feet in diameter.

The duration of the sighting was estimated with uncertainty, but was probably greater than 1 minute and less than 5 minutes. The object departed by rapidly rising at a 45 degree angle but maintained the horizontal position the craft held during hovering.  On departure, the swishing sound became 2-3 times louder and the pulsations became more rapid.
