The UFO incident occurred over North East Alaska on 17 November 1986, at 5:19 p.m. (18 November, at 2:19 UTC), according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The initial UFO sighting took place 90 nautical miles north east of
, according to U.S. UFO researcher Dr. Bruce Maccabee. Fort Yukon
The Japan Airlines cargo jet was piloted by Captain Kenju (or Kenji, according to some sources) Terauchi.
