UFO News Article:
“Salinas Encounters UFO Lights”

27 February 1978 (The Press-Courier, Oxnard, California)

Two air traffic controllers and several other people sighted huge green lights near Alisal (California), a Salinas suburb (located about five miles east of Salinas), on 26 February 1978, at around 7:10 p.m., The Press-Courier informs:

Quote from the article:
“ ‘Something did happen in that area, but what it was is unknown,’ Salinas police Lt. Ray Jackson said today. He said police had no explanation for the lights.

Most reports mentioned four ‘very, very large’ green lights, Jackson said. One person said they were moving at about 50 miles per hour. Another said the lights seemed to be attached to a single object about four stories high, Jackson said.

He (Air Traffic Controller Richard Lockwood) said the light appeared to be two to four miles away, about 30 feet in diameter and about 200 feet above the ground.

‘By the time you could count one-two-three, it had gone down,’ he said. He said he did not think it was an aircraft since it was ‘a solid mass of green.’

Although the sightings were near Alisal High School, Jackson said the lights were reportedly too big to be devised by kids as optical tricks.”

UFO News Article:
“Winchell Says Flying Saucer
Mystery Seen First in 1913”

7 July 1947
(San Jose Evening News, California)

The article is written by New York columnist Walter Winchell:

The article reports on R. Dewitt’s 1947 book (presents two UFO cases), “Forgotten Mysteries.”

The first report focuses on the UFO research work (!) of Astronomer Professor Chant of Toronto (Canada) and a
9 February 1913 UFO incident (30 or 32 UFOs) Chant researched.

The second report informs about some ‘unusual lights’ which were sighted from the British ship, H.M.S. Caroline on 24 February 1893, at 10:00 p.m. The incident occurred in the East China Sea, between Shanghai and Japan.

The interesting thing about the book is that it was published months before the start of the 1947 U.S. UFO wave.

“Around A Long Time –
Naval Officer Spotted Flying Saucer In 1922”

4 June 1952 (The Evening Citizen, Ottawa, Canada)

Quote from the article:
“Rear-Admiral R. E. S. Bidwell, a sub-lieutenant aboard the HMCS Aurora at the time, said he saw one near Barbados on the night of January 6, 1922.

Writing in ‘Crow’s Nest,’ a Canadian Navy publication, the admiral told of seeing ‘a green light, about the size of a soccer ball and travelling very rapidly in level flight about 500 feet in the air.’

The incident so struck the then junior officer that he recorded it in his Midshipman’s Log. It read:

‘Extraordinary incident took place at 10 p.m. when we were just off the north west corner of Martinique. A brilliant green light appeared on port bow. Looked quite close and was moving rapidly astern. It went out, came on again, and then finally went out. Its movement was quite even, not a trajectory, but level. I can’t explain it.’ ”

UFO News Article:
“Mountie ‘sat watching flashing UFO for hour’ ”

28 October 1978 (The Vancouver Sun, Canada)

An RCMP officer sighted an oval shaped UFO (hovering at about 1,000 metres) over Random Island (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) on 26 October 1978, at 1:45 a.m., according to the article:

Random Island is located just to the east of Clarenville.

Quote from the article:
“The name of the officer who saw the object has not been released.

However, RCMP here do say that the officer watched the object through a telescope and provided a detailed description of it.

It had a pyramid-shaped fin on the top of an oval shaped white body and it flashed red, blue and white lights for more than an hour before ‘it went straight up and disappeared.’

A report of the incident has been filed with the National Research Council in Ottawa.

RCMP officers here have refused to provide the names of those who saw the object and reported it.

‘All I can tell you is that nothing has been logged,’ he (spokesman at the Air Traffic Control centre at the Gander International Airport) said. However, if the object had stayed below 3,500 metres and was relatively small, it could have eluded conventional radar devises, he said.

A military spokesman at Gander confirmed what the controller had said.”

1 September 1994
(Reading Eagle, Pennsylvania)

Carmen Utter sighted a UFO over Berlin Heights (Ohio) on
29 August 1994, at around 10:30 p.m., the Reading Eagle reports:

Quote from the article:
“Carmen Utter, 15, said she heard a loud noise like the wind, but did not see any signs of wind.

Utter’s reported sighting was the latest in a series of UFO sightings in Erie County in recent years. Most of the sightings were centered near Perkins Township and occurred in the summer.

‘It was pretty big – bigger than an airplane, about the same size as a blimp,’ she said.

She said she saw red, green and white lights going around like a beacon.

Her parents also saw the object and reported it to the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.

A sheriff’s deputy responding to the call also saw the brightly lighted object.”
