UFO News Article:
“STRANGE OBJECT SEEN IN SKY OVER PIRIE –
CONSTABLE REPORTS GLOWING
TOP-LIKE PHENOMENON”

18 October 1954
(The Recorder, Port Pirie, Australia)

Source: Trove, National Library of Australia, Canberra, ACT,
Australia

The whole article:
“A strange glowing object, shaped like a top, was seen in the sky south-west by west from Pirie by Constable Bernard A. Egel, of Pirie, and other watchers on Saturday night (16 October 1954).

The object, which made no sound, was observed by the constable for about 15 mins. before it disappeared from sight, to be followed by another glowing object for a brief period.

Constable Egel told ‘The Recorder’ yesterday that he had been patroIIing his beat about 9.20 p.m. on Saturday when an agitated man and a girl had told him they had seen a strange object in the sky. He had immediately accompanied them to Memorial Park.

‘When I first saw the light it was hovering over Spencer Gulf, south-west by west of Pirie. It appeared to be about 1,000 ft. above the sea and about two to three miles out from Pirie. It changed color from red to orange, then green and, finally white. The light was larger at the top and tapered at the bottom, appearing in the shape of a top or an inverted electric bulb,’ said Constable Egel.

Changed Color

‘After we had watched it for about five minutes, it began to travel directly away from us, losing altitude. It moved about 10 miles and then stopped and hovered in a small circle, moving slowly, and constantly chancing color.

‘After having hovered in that position for about another five mins., it began to travel away again and continued out of sight. We watched for a few minutes but saw nothing as the light was extremely dark and the moon had not risen at that stage.

‘Following a brief interval either the same light or another appeared low over the sea about 10 miles out. It appeared to rise from the sea to a height of about 100 ft. and then travelled directly away out of sight.

Iridescent Light

‘An iridescent light came from the object, which changed color slowly. The changes of color were most definite. I had seen the light for at least 15 mins., but the other persons had watched it for about 15 mins. before approaching me.

‘The man who reported the object to me said that it had first appeared in the shape of a top with colored lights round the middle,’ added Constable Egel.

A party of motorists returning to Pirie, which included Mr. C. P. Murn (editor of "The Recorder") also reported having seen a strange red light in the sky shortly after sunset on Saturday. The light had also appeared south-west by west of Pirie.

A strange light glowing in several changing colors was seen about 8 o'clock last night high in the sky by Mr. Eric Sard, of Warnertown, and several other persons. It disappeared after a few minutes.”

(The Oregonian, Portland, Oregon)

Quote from the article:
“The first ‘saucers’ sighted were said to be ‘right over’ Oaks amusement park. Don Metcalfe, Oaks employee, told William LeRoy, park superintendent, that he had seen them.

An ‘all car’ alert by Portland police radio brought reports from Patrolman Earl Patterson, in car 13, and Patrolmen Walter Lissy and Robert Ellis, in car 82, that they had spotted them.”

UFO News Article:
“Constable tells of chasing
mysterious UFO for 30 miles”

8 October 1973
(Hattiesburg American, Mississippi)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“Beat Two Constable Charlie Delk says he chased a UFO for 30 miles Sunday night [7 October 1973], lost it when his car mysteriously went dead, and caught up with the glowing object when his car started up again after a 15 minute wait. ‘I’m 45 years old and I’ve never seen anything like it,’ Delk said today. ‘It wasn’t any play toy.’

Delk was sent out to 127 Wilson Drive in Petal to investigate after local authorities had received numerous calls from scared residents af the area.

‘Those people of Wilson Drive were [mightily] disturbed,’ Delk said. ‘I figured they were seeing things. When I got there, I spotted it up over Petal High School. It looked like an old-timey top with yellow lights all the way around it.

‘I followed it up to the Jones-Forrest County line…four lights were flashing and it was making noise…then it went back north. I followed it five miles and it went toward the Tallahalla swamp. I was with it for three miles and got pretty close to it and then my car died.

‘It was just like someone had cut the motor off. In about 15 minutes, my car started up again like nothing was wrong. Jones and Forrest County sheriff’s deputies tried to contact me but everything was dead during that time.’

Delk said he continued to follow the UFO across Highway 29, through Ovett and past some kind of swamp. ‘Then it just did a double flip and disappeared from sight,’ he said.”

My comment:
This is a very interesting article.

1) The UFO apparently caused electromagnetic (EM) interference with the motor of the car and the car radio. Time and again people talk about how they experienced EM effects while they were in close proximity to a UFO.

2) The unknown object manoeuvred over a high school. UFOs are often sighted over schools/universities.

3) The UFO flew close to/over two swamp areas. UFOs have often been seen flying over/hovering over swamps.

UFO News Article:
“Group spot UFO”

22 January 1975
(The Mercury, Renfrew, Canada)

The whole article:
“Several people say they saw an unidentified flying object just west of Renfrew, the Ontario Provincial Police report.

Constable Ron MacDonald answered a call to the Turcotte residence at the intersection of County Road 5 and Highway 132 at about 6:10 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Turcotte, their family, and neighbors watched the object hovering in the sky. Mrs. Turcotte called the OPP.

Cory LeBlanc who was driving along Highway 132 coming home from work also saw the object. He stopped at the Turcotte residence and watched with the others. The object was southwest of the observers.

Witnessses described the UFO as huge, about the size of a house. It hovered about a mile from the Turcotte farm, its bright white lights forming a triangular pattern on the shining metal-like craft.

It stayed in the same location for about ten minutes, then began to descend towards a wooded area. As it did so, its lights changed to a pale blue color, then as it approached the trees it became a dull red color. A bright object, resembling a star, but just above the UFO, remained at a 45 degree angle to the craft.

When the object landed, it lit up the woods with its bright lights, then the light faded and went out.

Shortly afterwards Constable Ron MacDonald arrived on the scene. He and Cory LeBlanc drove LeBlanc’s truck across the field trying to get closer so that the OPP officer could see the UFO as well.

Mr. LeBlanc said that on a previous night his wife saw the same object, he told her at that time that she was losing her marbles.

Several months ago, a very similar sighting was reported to the Renfrew OPP. A woman called about a UFO near the Valley Hotel, in the Pinnacle Hill area, she asked not to be identified, and the OPP would not give out her name.

A recent story from British Columbia about two RCMP officers sighting a UFO comes to mind. These men are trained observers and insist that they saw a saucer with all the same lights.”

“UFO sightings puzzle police”

23 July 1983
(The Canberra Times, ACT, Australia)

Source: Trove, National Library of Australia, Canberra, ACT,
Australia

The whole article:
MELBOURNE: Police are baffled by two unidentified flying objects sighted at Melton on the western outskirts of Melbourne early yesterday morning.

Chief Inspector Ray Hickman said yesterday that the UFOs had been followed for about six hours by police from West Melton to the local shopping centre as they flew over the area.

The objects had been spotted by Constable Peter Ferguson and Constable Ray Allans while on car patrol about 1.30 am. They said later that one of the objects could have been a gyrocopter.

‘The other aircraft, which I also saw, was a jet-type craft about 13 by five metres,’ Inspector Hickman said. ‘It was a grey colour with white lights at the back and front and red lights on the top and underneath.’

It had been moving very quietly at about 130 to 145km/h.

Above the shopping centre both crafts’ lights had gone off and the UFOs had disappeared.

A spokesman for the Department of Aviation, Mr Ken Williams, said the aircraft control tower at Tullamarine had received an occasional signal but not enough to identify the aircraft.”

UFO News Article:
“Area Lawman Sees UFO”

10 February 1967
(Sandusky Register, Ohio)

Source: UFO Newsclipping Service, Edwardsville, Illinois and AFU.se

Quote from the article (Page 12):
“ ‘I saw a solid, bluish disc, in the opposite direction of the NASA reactor site. I know enough about physics to judge the difference between gas and solid matter—I just wish I would have had someone else with me to prove I saw it.’

THE ABOVE quote is Perkins Constable Gary Butler’s morning reaction to the unidentified flying object (UFO) he witnessed at approximately 3:40 a.m. today [10 February 1967] while on routine patrol.

Butler told the Register he was working his usual 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. shift and after dinner drove from South Campbell Street to Little Schenk Road.

‘As I was coming over a bridge, I noticed an object in the sky. At first, I thought it was the Bellevue railroad lights, but when I drove a little further, I got a better view.

‘THE DISC was approximately two miles from me, I judge it was about 20 feet in diameter and approximately 40 feet off the ground. I stopped my car, turned off the motor, but left my radio turned on—I heard no noise, the object didn’t move.

‘I sat watching it for a few minutes and truthfully, I was scared. I’ve never seen anything like it before an I newver [sic] want to see anything like it again. I waited a few minutes and then called the deputies and the patrol.

‘AFTER I made the call, the object which had hovered for six or seven minutes began to drop out of sight behind an outline of trees. When the other officers arrived, it was gone.’

Butler said he was mildly irritated with the steam cloud explanation. ‘I don’t want to say I think it was a flying saucer — honestly, I don’t know what it was. But it seems hard to believe it could have been steam clouds from a reactor a mile or more away in the opposite direction — besides, the wind was blowing in a southwesterly direction and would have carried the steam over near Huron. I saw the object in the direction of Bellevue.’

ON JAN. 30, the Register learned of an [sic] USO [UFO] sighted over the NASA grounds by Reinhardt N. Ausmus, Erie County Veterans Service Officer and his wife. The couple said they saw the object, described as a brilliant light, while driving home; they left their car to watch the object for several minutes. Ausmus is a member of the Early Birds, a club for World War I aviators.

Butler ended his comments on last night’s spotting by saying, ‘I know people will probably say I’m some kind of nut, but I really did see something. I have better things to do with my time than to call in fake UFO’s.’

THE YOUNG officer explained he was ‘wide awake — I had lots of sleep. I know I saw something, but I just don’t know what.’ Butler usually makes his patrol with another officer, but ‘unfortunately, the other officer was not with me last night.’

Butler stated he has talked with many residents around the Plum Brook Station who have supposedly seen UFO’s in their area. ‘Too many people are seeing them, I don’t know what to think.’ Butler also reported he listened to a traffic communication from Bellevue last night after the spotting and said ‘some Bellevue officers said they spotted UFO’s last night, but they were red in color and disappeared so fast they couldn’t get a good look.’ ”

NOTE: NICAP’s U.F.O. Investigator (issue: March-April 1967,
