UFO News Article:
“Texans Sight Bright Light”

8 November 1957
(Plainview Daily Herald, Texas)

Source: NICAP.org

This is an article about the 7 November 1957 (Thursday night) Amarillo area, Texas, UFO sightings and a Levelland, Texas, UFO observation.

Quote from the article:
“Sheriff Jack Cartwright at Dimmitt, on the upper South Plains, said the light was too large to be a star and appeared round. Stanley Vinson, police dispatcher at Hereford, described it as a bright object with blue lights on the bottom.

At Levelland, where a bright unidentified object was seen early Sunday, policeman A. J. Fowler said he followed the bright light by car Thursday night for about half an hour.

Fowler said it appeared to be two bright lights, one on top of the other, tinted red and blue.

He estimated it was about 2,500 feet high and about a mile away.”

Brad Sparks:
Aug. 15-20 (approx.), 1947 Rapid City Air Base [Weaver?], South Dakota (BBU)
Major Hammer sitting in the parking lot near the flight line shortly after dark saw to the NW about 12 elliptical objects about the span of a B-29 (140 ft) with a yellow-white luminous glow in a tight diamond formation, approaching in a shallow descent, level off at about 5,000 ft altitude [height?] at 300-400 mph, make a gentle 110° turn to its right about 4 miles away climbing to the SW, accelerating rapidly. No sound or trail. 1 min? (FOIA; FUFOR Index)

Dan Wilson:
Aug. bt.15-20, 1947; Rapid City AFB, South Dakota (BBU)
9:30 p.m. local. Intelligence Officer Major Elmer H. Hammer observed about 12 elliptical objects in a tight diamond formation at an estimated altitude of 6,000 to 10,000 feet approaching from the NW in a shallow descent moving at an estimated 300-400 mph. The objects then leveled off at approximately 5,000 feet and made a gentle large radius turn of about 110 degrees to the right about 4 miles from the observer. The objects started climbing at an angle of 30 to 40 degrees and appeared to accelerate rapidly in the climb. The objects were approximately 100 feet long and had a brilliant yellow-white luminous glow. No sound was heard from the objects. The objects sighted were visible for approximately 1 minute.

Fran Ridge:
This is one of the reports cited in the notes about the Top Secret EOTS which quoted an interview with this Major from the Rapid City AFB (now Ellsworth AFB) who said he saw twelve UFOs flying a tight formation.”

UFO News Article:
“IN WIDESPREAD WHATNIK SEARCH –
Mystery Objects Sighted at Pantex”

8 November 1957
(The Amarillo Globe-Times, Texas)

Source: NICAP.org

Quote from the article:
“Some viewers said it was a ‘bright, white light.’ Others said it was red, blue and green at times.

The light spotted in Texas Thursday night (7 November 1957) appeared in areas generally to the west of Brownsville, San Antonio, Waco, Brownwood, Paris—and Amarillo.

Bright, flashing objects hovered for half an hour over Pantex Atomic Energy Commission ordnance plant, 15 miles east of Amarillo, Thursday night, according to plant guards.

The brilliant objects were reported to the State Highway Patrol office by plant guards at 7:46 p.m. A patrolman dispatched to the plant arrived at 8:15 p.m. and reported that he, too, saw ‘a strange light.’

‘When I got there,’ the patrolman said, ‘the guards said one of the objects had landed on Farm Road 2373, three miles north of Highway 60. We drove to the area but nothing was there. But I’m convinced that the guards saw something land.’

The patrolman said guards told him they had tried to slip up on the objects by turning off their lights ‘but the things would just slip away from them when they got near.’

Guards were unable to estimate size of the objects. The patrolman also said the guards seem positive ‘they saw more than just lights—that objects were in the sky.’ ”

Wikipedia article: “Pantex Plant”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The Pantex Plant is the primary United States nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility that aims to maintain the safety, security and reliability of the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile.[1][2] The facility is located on a 16,000 acre (65 km2) site 17 miles (27 km) northeast of Amarillo, in Carson County, Texas in the Panhandle of Texas. The plant is managed and operated for the United States Department of Energy by Consolidated Nuclear Security and Sandia National Laboratories. Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS) is composed of member companies Bechtel National, Inc., Leidos, Inc., Orbital ATK, Inc, and SOC LLC, with Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. as a teaming subcontractor.[3] CNS also operates the Y-12 National Security Complex.[3]

As a major national security site, the plant and its grounds are strictly controlled and off-limits to all civilians, and the airspace above and around the plant is prohibited to civilian air traffic by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) as Prohibited Area P-47.

History

The Pantex Plant was originally constructed as a conventional bomb plant for the United States Army Air Force during the early days of World War II. The Pantex Ordnance Plant was authorized February 24, 1942. Construction was completed on November 15, 1942 and workers from all over the U.S. flocked to Amarillo for jobs.

Pantex was abruptly deactivated when the war ended and remained vacant until 1949, when Texas Technological College in Lubbock (now Texas Tech University) purchased the site for $1.[4] Texas Tech used the land for experimental cattle-feeding operations.

In 1951, at the request of the Atomic Energy Commission (now the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)), the Army exercised a recapture clause in the sale contract and reclaimed the main plant and 10,000 acres (40 km2) of surrounding land for use as a nuclear weapons production facility. The Atomic Energy Commission refurbished and expanded the plant at a cost of $25 million. The remaining 6,000 acres (24 km2) of the original site were leased from Texas Tech in 1989.

The Pantex Plant was operated by Procter & Gamble from 1951 to 1956, Mason & Hanger from 1956 to 2001, and Babcock & Wilcox from 2001 to 2014.[5]

The plant employed about 3,600 people in 2010 and had a budget of $600 million for fiscal year 2010.[6]”

Fran Ridge:
March 15, 1965; Everglades, Florida
Bt. 1-2 AM. Hovering cone-shaped object, animal reaction. Witness struck on forehead by light beam, unconscious, eye damage. Damaged foliage found at site.  While camped in the Everglades training hunting dogs, James W. Flynn, 45, spotted a bright yellow light oscillating back and forth. He drove his swamp buggy within 400 yards to investigate, then dismounted and proceeded on foot. As he neared, Flynn saw a brightly illuminated cone-shaped object emitting a loud whirring noise. Four tiers of windows were visible around the side. When within about 150 feet of the UFO, Flynn suddenly felt a ‘sledgehammer’ blow and was knocked unconscious. Many hours later, when he awoke, he was partially blinded but could see a black, oily looking circle on the ground below the position where the UFO had hovered. After stopping at an Indian village for aid, Flynn made his way back to Fort Myers and entered the hospital. (UFOE II, Section I).”

UFO News Article:
“ ‘The Unexplained’ –
Pulsating UFO Lands in Florida Swamp”

2 July 1987
(Republican Journal, Belfast, Maine)

Source: waterufo.net

The whole article:
“On the night of March 14, 1965, James W. Flynn, who is a rancher and hunting dog trainer, was camped out for the night in the Everglades. Just as he was settling down for the night, his dogs became restive and upset. He looked around expecting visitors, but instead he sighted a bright light silently and slowly descending about a mile away.

Thinking that perhaps an airplane had gotten into trouble and gone down, he prepared his swamp buggy for the journey and set out to render aid if needed. He was guided directly to the spot by the glow which continued unabated. This worried Flynn as he expected to find a burning plane and probably injuries or fatalities. He found neither.

Pulsating Glow

When about a quarter mile away, he grounded his swamp buggy and continued on foot. Soon he found himself in a large clearing and he wasn’t alone. Some twenty yards away he saw a circular, cone-shaped object with a pulsating glow. It hovered just above the ground with a slightly perceptible wobbling motion. He detected, after a bit of study, a sound he could only describe as a hum. He estimated the size at well over seventy-five feet in diameter and twenty-five to thirty feet thick. There were four rows of ports or windows encircling the craft, each emitting a yellow light unlike the color of the craft’s overall glow. A partition immediately behind the windows prevented him from seeing any internal details or occupants.

For many minutes Flynn just stood there, amazed. He had heard of such things, but, until now, had never really taken them seriously. Overactive imagination, he’d thought. But this was not imagination. It was real.

Curiosity overcame fear. He started to approach the craft to get a better look. He never made it. A pencil thin blue light shot out from ‘somewhere’ on the craft hitting Flynn on the forehead ‘right between the eyes.’ He was unconscious before he hit the ground.

When he regained consciousness, he was partially blind, sluggish, had a terrific headache and a large, sore bruise on his forehead. The craft was gone. Somehow he got his swamp buggy going and got to his hometown of Ft. Meyers, Florida. He was rushed to a hospital for examination and treatment.

Trees Burned

After he told his story, investigators went back to the spot. They found a large circular spot in the clearing where the ground and grass were charred. The tops of some nearby trees were severely burned. The trunks and limbs of some of the trees were scarred.

The Air Force, at that time, normally debunked and belittled UFO sightings and the people who reported them out of hand, but in this instance, they did not reckon with Flynn’s standing in his community. On this occasion the Air Force had to partially back off. They only took one shot, that I can find, in that they labeled it by innuendo to be a hoax. Question is, how did Flynn fake the charred circle of ground, how did he burn and scar the trees and, most importantly, how did he self-inflict a bruise of such shape and intensity?

One final piece of evidence helped exonerate James Flynn. One of his physical injuries was atrophy of internal muscles. Medical science tells us that one can’t be faked; period!”

NOTE: The UFO incident occurred on 15 March 1965, between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., according to NICAP.org.
