“Delphos, Kansas
November 2, 1971”

The whole UFO case report:
“Animal Reaction Feature:
Snowball was a farm dog, an outdoors living dog who assisted in rounding up and herding sheep.  Sheep were also involved in this incident, and the event took place during the time their lambs were being born.

Joan Woodward, Animal Reaction Specialist:
It was after dark on a clear night when Ron Johnson heard the rumbling noise and stepped out to see a brilliant object near the ground. There was a mass of unchanging colors over the object—blue, red, and orange.  The actual surface could not be seen, and the shape was difficult to discern, but the top had a flat-dome shape and it had a flat bottom. At one point Ron compared it to ‘ toad stool.’  Ron estimated it to be 8 feet in diameter. A bright glow with a shimmering appearance extended from the base to the ground. The glow from the object illuminated nearby trees and the ground.

Physical traces were found on the ground where the object hovered. Touching the traces caused numbness. No EM effects were reported.

Newsletter Quote:
“STIGMATA”

Number Four, Summer 1978
(Project Stigma, Paris, Texas)

Source: Archives For the Unexplained (AFU.se), Norrköping, Sweden

Project Stigma was run by the late animal mutilation researcher Thomas (Tom) R. Adams.

Quote from the newsletter issue:
“A CLOSER LOOK

February

Skagit Co., Washington: It appears that, proportionally, the number of horse mutilations are increasing. In the last week of December, a classic horse mutilation occurred in Salt Lake City, Utah. In early January a prized thoroughbred was killed, but not mutilated, in Carroll Co., Arkansas. Leading up to that event, a notable wave of UFO sightings occurred in Carroll County. Benton County, Arkansas adjoins Carroll Co. on the west (see April, May). The Carroll Co. horse was apparently killed by a single blow to the snout. A veterinary pathologist was impressed by the fact that the killer had to know just how and where to strike the blow once, in order to quickly kill the animal. The Salt Lake City horse, which was mutilated, suffered a similar blow to the skull. Details on the Skagit Co. horse death remain sketchy. An investigator in an adjacent county bas not had much success in getting information from Skagit County authorities.

March and April

Goochland Co., Virginia: Investigators have wondered about the relatively small number of mutilations which have been reported from the southeastern United States, which certainly contain their share of livestock. In 1978, it seems that more reports are beginning to emanate from the South. At least 9 cattle, and perhaps as many as 17, were found ‘dead and mutilated in a bizarre fashion’ on the Virginia State Farm (a state correctional center) near Crozier in a 3-week period in March and April. No incidents occurred outside the State Farm. In fact, the mutilations were discovered in two separate, non-adjoining pastures owned by the State Farm. Autopsies were conducted on some of the animals, but no cause of death could be discerned. Ears and udders, primarily, were the parts excised from the carcasses which, according to Goochland County Sheriff's Captain Mavin Clements, decomposed very rapidly. Reports of UFO sightings and landings occurred from the area around the State Farm during the 3-week period. Several Farm guards reported seeing bright, noiseless, meandering nocturnal lights, some of which appeared to land behind nearby hills. Project Stigma interviewed a witness who lives less than a half-mile from the State Farm. On a late Sunday night or early Monday he observed a white light which descended below a low knoll between his residence and the Farm. The percipient was struck by the clarity and brilliance of the light and the lack of any sound. This occurred ‘during the time’ that the mutilations were being discovered, although it is not known whether any mutilations occurred on that specific night.

A WEEKEND IN APRIL

Two classic, definitive cattle mutilations occurred on the weekend of April 22-23, 1978 - in Natrona County, Wyoming and Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We can report on these incidents in more detail than most, as they were subject to more scrutiny and examination than is usual.

Natrona County, Wyoming

Rancher Vern Robinett’s 400-lb. yearling heifer had been seen alive and well on Friday, April 21, 1978. A neighbor later reported having seen the animal down sometime on Saturday, the 22nd, but Robinett did not discover the animal until Tuesday, the 25th.

During weeks preceding the mutilation, UFO sightings were numerous north and south of Casper. A deputy reported witnessed UFOs and was able to record their sound on a cassette recorder.

Rio Arriba County, New Mexico

In June of 1976 at least 3 cattle mutilations were reported in northern Rio Arriba County. An interesting and well-documented case occurred in a pasture approx. 12 miles from the town of Dulce. At  that site were numerous circular ‘tracks’ or impressions in the ground, primarily in straight lines, plus a set of three different indentations in a tripod arrangement. For a summary of the event, the reader is directed to the November/December 1977 issue of Beyond Reality Magazine (P.O. Box 428; Nanuet, NY 10954) and the article, ‘Cattle Mutilation: Witchcraft Rituals or Space Invasion’ by Howard and Lovola Burgess. Dulce area residents had reported UFOs, including a sighting on the night of the mutilation. One investigator, while revisiting the site, observed a large black object which glided away just above the ground. Unusual images which were not visible to the naked eye later turned up on photos taken in the area of the mute site. And, excessive radiation was detected within the round (4-inch diameter) indentations.

Manuel Gomez, owner of the cow victimized in June of 1976, has become a ‘favorite’ of the mutilators, with at least 4 o! his cattle falling victim to the siege. Gomez ranches as well as operates a store on the outskirts of Dulce, near his house. The mutilation which occurred late on April 23rd or early on the 24th took place, not at the pasture 12 miles SE of Dulce as in 1976, but in a field less than a mile from the Gomez residence in Dulce. The 11-month-old bull vas seen alive Sunday evening and discovered by Gomez early Monday morning, the 24th. At about 11:00 PM, Sunday night, a Department of Game and Fish officer observed a large orange light on a ridge behind the Gomez property; also, a neighbor reported hearing an apparent helicopter flying low in the area the same night.

The 4-inch tracks were back. The carcass lay in a lane in the middle of the pasture, and down the lane for a considerable distance were the imprints. They "went back and forth a couple of times,’ then stopped about 100 feet from the carcass. Five other bulls and a flock of sheep were in the pasture and unharmed.

Approximately 4 days before the April discovery of the Gomez cow, a helicopter landed near the Gomez store and home. The occupants said they had run out of gas while aiding the State Police in searching for two lost boys. They bought gas from the pump at the Gomez store, paying with a credit card that indicated they were associated with a helicopter rental service in southwestern Colorado. The problem was: the State Police claimed that the chopper was not aiding them in any way.

Aftermath

At presstime, it would seem that no further known mutilation activity has occurred in the Casper, Wyoming area. The same cannot be said for New Mexico. About a week after the Dulce mutilation of April 23rd or 24th, and about 10 miles from town, a cow belonging to an official of the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation was found mutilated. It appeared that a belt or harness had been placecl around the animal behind the front lege. Several ‘pod marks’ were found several hundred feet away. It has been theorized once again that the animal was picked up in the area of the indentations, mutilated, and then dropped where it was found. It bas been reported that during that approximate period of time unidentified orange airborne lights were seen in the area.

On May 14, 1978, State Police announced that they were investigating the apparent mutilation of two cows and a calf on the ranch of Julius Ferran near Coyote, New Mexico, in southern Rio Arriba County. There was a report that rains washed away any tracks or ground markings. However, one investigator claims to have photographed peculiar round ‘footprints’ at the site.

Back to the Dulce area – two more mutilations (the ‘usual’ parts taken) were reported there in late May. A front leg was broken on each, no strap or harness marks were visible, and if there were ‘pod marks,’ they had been obliterated by numerous other cattle tracks.

On June 14, 1978, Project Stigma investigators Gary Massey and Tom Adams, while on vacation in southern Colorado, were advised of another mutilation in the Dulce area. Accompanied by Colorado investigators David Perkins and Cari Seawell, we arrived in Dulce to examine the site on Thursday, June 15th. It bas been estimated that the mutilation occurred late Monday, the 12th or early Tuesday morning – which would have been two years to the date since the June 1976 mutilation. Plus, this
latest event transpired in the same pasture, the animal having been found less than 300 yards from where the 1976 cow finally fell. And yes, the owner of the animal was, once again, Manuel Gomez.

There were indentations in the hide of the animal’s legs which suggested the presence of a clamp or similar device. Flies were present on the carcass but it was obvious that other predators must have had better things to do.

A NON-ENCOUNTER

A pilot who grew up in the area around Nara Visa, in northeastern New Mexico. Told Project Stigma of the time in 1975 when he and three friends took infrared cameras in the personal airplane to the Nara Visa vicinity. As livestock mutilations plagued the region, residents had been steadily reporting either unmarked and unidentified helicopters and/or strange meandering nocturnal lights. One night, while the UFOs were being seen in abundance, the foursome took to the air. Their efforts were coordinated with ground observers who could see both the airplane and the UFOs. Those on the ground tried to direct the plane to the area of the strange lights, but the four in the airplane could not see the UFOs at all. They flew around the area for two hours as the frustrated ground observers told them where the lights appeared to be – but the four hapless occupants of the airplane were never able to see the objects/lights.”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“PROJECT 10073 RECORD (CARD):
DATE – TIME GROUP: April 1966 (not 1959)/
LOCATION: Grand Forks, North Dakota”

(Project Blue Book, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.)

Source: Fold3.com, Lindon, Utah

Quote from the document:
(Project Blue Book (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio) memorandum) (Page 2):
“Call from SSgt Levy ext 6621 or 6622, Grand Forks, N Dakota regarding observation of approximately ten days ago by (blacked out text) of McHenry, North Dakota. Phone through exchange Tolna, (blacked out text). He is a farmer and saw this object near the Minuteman I-37. Sighting 60 miles ESE of Grand Forks AFB. Looked like glass Bulbs inside of a ring. The sound was like a tractor back firing. He has made sketches of it  It was at 8 pm that he observed the object. This man had reported it to Minot but they hadn’t done anything about it so he called Grand Forks and told them he had reported it to Minot and was worried cause the UFO was near the Minuteman site. He hadn’t thought anything about it at first but then got to thinking it was near the Minuteman site. SSgt Levy said the whole thing was pretty well confused and the man had wanted to hear from someone on his observation to fill out forms or something of the kind. Informed Sgt Levy that we would send this man a form 164 to complete. Sgt Levy is going to send us a report of his conversation and how the mess got into his hands. He would inform the man that he was going to be sent some forms to fill out, and that he was sure this would please him.

(Letter from Department of the Air Force, Headquarters 4th Strategic Aerospace Division (SAC), Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota to Project Blue Book, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio) (Page 3):
1. Following is a written recount of a telephone call between this directorate and the UFO Center. This is the information offered to the Center.

2. A call was received at Grand Forks AFB Base Operations on Wednesday morning, April 13. It was from a Mr. (blacked out text), a farmer, of McHenry, N.D., telephone number Tolna (blacked out text). His farm is located 7 1/2 miles north and 2 miles east of McHenry. The farm is approximately 1 1/2 miles away from a Minuteman II missile site, I-37, and this is the reason he made the report, because he was worried that the sighting was in the vicinity of the site. Sometime between 3-7 April 1966, he made a sighting at 8 p.m. in the evening. All he could tell was that the object resembled glass bulbs in a ring and made a sound like a farm tractor backfiring. He didn’t make the report at first, but later changed his mind because of the Minuteman II silo.

UFO News Article:
“ ‘Light in Sky’ Chases Car,
Besieges Home of Farmer”

6 August 1963
(Chicago Tribune, Illinois)

Source: Chicago Tribune Archives

The whole article:
“A Wayne county family cowered in their darkened house early today [6 August 1963] while a bright light hovered over their farm for several hours until it disappeared shortly before dawn.

A member of the family, Ronnie Austin, 18, became hysterical after he and his date were chased 10 miles by the bright moving object as they returned from a drive-in movie last night. Ronnie and Phyllis Bruce, a neighbor, rushed into the Austin household screaming.

The father, Orville Austin, stepped into the yard with a shotgun, then ran back into the house, turned off the lights, and called for protection against a mysterious aerial marauder.

Harry Lee, Wayne county deputy sheriff, said the light was apparently high in the sky and was bigger and brighter than any star. He described it as moving but not twinkling and said he kept it under observation for several hours.

Lee said he went to the farm home, 15 miles west of Fairfield, in answer to a call from Austin for help against the eerie object.

Ronnie said the light appeared above and behind him shortly after he and his date had started a 10-mile drive home. Ronnie described the light as big as an automobile and said when it swooped near him it caused his car motor to crackle.

Ronnie said he raced his car but couldn’t outdistance the light. It followed him home and kept its strange vigil over the farm house. Ronnie, after he became hysterical, was given a sedative by a physician.

Three other members of the Austin family and Mis Bruce supported the story, Lee said.

The deputy said police in Mount Vernon, 15 miles west of the Austin home, reported seeing a strange light in the sky and that Kenneth Talbot, police radio operator, said it appeared to have the shape of a cross.”

UFO News Article & TV News Report:
“Propietario y vaqueros insisten en
presencia de ovnis en una propiedad
(“Owner and cowboys insist on the
presence of UFOs on property”)

5 April 2019
(Red Uno de Bolivia, La Paz, Bolivia)

Red Uno reports on the UFOs which recently have been sighted over the farm of Freddy Rodríguez near Ascensión de Guarayos, Bolivia.

The farm is located 27 kilometres from the town.

Rodríguez said he ordered one of his cowboys to fire a shotgun at one of the unknown objects. The bullet had no effect on the object – but the UFO ascended into the air after the shot had been fired. After Rodríguez had turned the truck around, they saw the UFO up close, and it shone a light on them.

At least 20 UFOs (some of which have illuminated the cattle) have been sighted over the farm during the last six months, according to the article.

The TV report contains UFO videos.

NOTE: This is the same TV news report I reported about in the preceding blog post.

UFO News Article:
“Sight UFO Over Benton County Farm”

6 August 1969
(The Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa)

Source: Newspapers.com

The whole article:
“Under any other set of circumstances, Warren ‘Bud’ Barr would say lightning struck his soybean fields the evening of Sunday, July 13 [1969].

While he was doing chores the following morning, the Benton County farmer noticed that a 15-foot circular area in his bean field had been charred to the ground. No other part of the field was touched.

At breakfast his 15-year-old daughter, Pat, and her cousin, Kathy Mahr, 19, gave him another explanation for the barren spot.

‘Kathy and I were about to go to bed at 11 Sunday evening, when we looked out our west window and saw red-orange lights hovering just a few hundred feet from the house,’ Pat recalled.

Black Object

The black metallic object was moving and vanished over a neighbour’s field northwest of the Barr home. The object was about the same size as the barren spot in the soybean field.

‘I know that it wasn’t a jet, a helicopter, or a small plane,’ Pat said. ‘It was shaped like two saucers put together upside down.’

The Barr family doesn’t say that the object was from another planet. But their beans haven’t had any trouble with armyworms either.

It could have been lightning, Bud Barr believes, but he hasn’t tried to collect on his crop insurance. The family said the air was quiet around 11 p.m., although it had rained earlier in the evening.

Lightning Effects

When lightning strikes, the center of a circular area is usually barren, but the edges taper off, Vivian Jennings, Cedar Rapids area extension crops specialist, said. In Barr’s field, the whole 15-foot area was barren, and other portions of the field were not affected.

The family weren’t able to find any imprints in the area, and they did not report the strange activities to authorities.

Several citizens reported what they believed to be an unidentified flying object near the Cedar Rapids municipal airport in June. The Cedar Rapids municipal airport air traffic control tower has not had any reports of unusual activity on June 13, although they usually ask that citizens forward reports on to military authorities at Offutt air force base, Omaha, or University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

No Life

Two space flights since then have eliminated the theory that the object might have been sent from the moon or Mars. There isn’t any life on Mars, you’ll recall.

‘But it could have been from Venus,’ Pat said. ‘Imagine what their scientists would say if they thought earth was a giant Iowa soybean field.’ Pat is a senior at Benton Community high school.

The Barr farm is located approximately five miles northwest of Vinton.”

The article contains a photo of Warren Barr’s soybean field.

NOTE: NICAP.org and other credible UFO research sources
report that Warren Barr’s farm was located just outside Van
Horne (located just west of Cedar Rapids). Van Horne is
located to the south west of Vinton.

UFO News Article:
“ ‘This Thing Like a Ball of Fire’…Just Gas?”

3 April 1966
(Detroit Free Press, Michigan)

Source: Newspapers.com

This is a large, brilliant article (includes a map of the sightings) about the March 1966 Southern Michigan UFO flap.

Quote from the article:
“ ‘. . . A whirlwind came out of the north, and a brightness WAS about it … the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.’
                                                                                                          —Ezekiel 1:4
‘It WAS an object . . . I don’t care who believes me. I believe me.’
     —Frank Mannor
           Dexter, Mich.

When the strange object landed on the banks of the river Chebar thousands of years ago, the Biblical prophet ‘beheld . . . four living creatures . . . in the likeness of man, every one with four faces.’

The object Frank Mannor beheld in the swamp behind his farm home near Dexter, in Washtenaw County, March 20 disgorged no living creatures.

But he’s absolutely certain that ‘we seen this thing like a ball of fire, maybe more like a shooting star, come out of the west, then drop below a clump of trees half a mile behind the house.’

The 47-year-old sometime truck driver’s account of his experience, as graphic as Ezekiel’s in the Bible, was the dramatic highlight of Michigan’s biggest ‘flying saucer’ spree.

WHAT LENT IT widespread credibility was the corroborating testimony: Reports of sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO’s) similar to Mannor’s description, by dozens of southeastern Michigan police officers trained to prevent mass hysteria rather than encourage it.

…

THE PHENOMENON started March 14 during a routine patrol by Car 19, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department. Here’s how it appears on the official reports:

‘3:50 a.m. Received call from Deputies (Robert) Bushroe and (John) Foster. Stating that they saw some suspicious objects in the sky. Disc, star like colors red and green, moving very fast, making sharp turns, having left to right movements, going in a northwest direction.

‘5:04 a.m. [most likely at 4:04 a.m.] Livingston County called and stated that they also saw the objects. . . .

‘4:05 a.m.—Ypsilanti Police stated that the object was seen at the location of US-12 and I-94.

‘4:10 a.m. Monroe County called and they also saw the objects.

‘4:20 a.m. (Bushroe and Foster) saw four more in the same location moving at a high rate of speed. . . .

‘4:54 a.m. Two more were spotted coming from the southeast, over Monroe County.

‘5:30 Dep. Patterson & I (Cpl. Broderick) looked out of the office and saw a bright light that appeared to be over the Ypsilanti area. It looked like a star, but was moving from north to east.’

Bushroe added this note when he returned from patrol.

‘This is the strangest thing that Deputy Foster and myself have ever witnessed. We would not have beleaved [sic] this story if we hadn’t seen it with our own eyes. These objects could move at fantastic speeds, and make very sharp turns dive and climb, and hover with great maneuverability. We have no idea of what these objects were, or where they could have come from. At 4:20 a.m. there were 4 of these objects flying in a line formation, in a northwesterly direction, at 5:30 these objects went out of view and were not seen again.’

That same morning, Dexter Patrolman Robert Hunawill was on patrol with Patrolman Richard Alexa and two county deputies. He said:

‘We first saw them in the early morning, maybe about 4 a.m. . . . We saw red and white lights off in the distance, about four of them.’

HUNAWILL later reported eight other sightings and took photographs several times.

‘Again in the 20th,’ he said, ‘my wife and I saw four objects hovering over the Mannor farm while the deputies were searching the swamp. Later that night, we’d just come home and were pulling into the driveway when one of the objects came over the house at no more than 3,000 feet. Took a couple of minutes to pass over. A couple of deputies followed it out of town and saw it hover over Island Lake Road in the direction of the Mannor farm.

‘It’s not marsh gas. My reaction to Dr. Hynek is the same as the rest of the people around here. He made us look like fools. I don’t think he’ll get any co-operation out of these people any more.’

THURSDAY morning, March 17: Washtenaw Deputies David Fitzpatrick and Nuel Schneider had been called out on a minor accident.

Fitzpatrick’s account:

‘We seen three different objects in the sky to the south of us. Two of these objects were close together and the other farther to the east. On one of these object we could see on one side white light and on the other a green light.

‘We headed south towards Milan on Marion Road. At this time we stopped the patrol car and looked back to the west and at the same time looked toward the east and seen a real bright object hovering over what looked like US-23.

‘We then drove to Arkona and Carpenter Roads and Deputy Hennes let us use his field glasses. At the time we seen this strange object and some colors. The top of it was yellowish blue-green, and the bottom bright red with what looked like black marks across it.

‘The object itself looked like a toy top. When at the above location, we were about five to 10 miles from this object.

‘This seems very unbelievable and something right out of these science fiction movies on TV!’

NEXT: The Mannor sighting.

‘We all run out on the porch and we seen this thing like a ball of fire, maybe more like a shooting star, come out of the west, then drop below a clump of trees maybe half a mile behind the house.

‘Me and Ronnie (Mannor’s 19-year-old son) decided to come down for a look. My wife, Lena, kicked up an awful fuss, Said we might get radioactive.

‘I told her if they was anything radioactive we’d get it just as bad in the house as down in the swamp. I asked my two sons-in-law to come, but their wives wouldn’t let ’em.

‘We come over that knoll just this side of the swamp and there it was, about eye-level with us, no more than 500 yards away. It had a blue light in front, and in the back a light that kept changing from red to white, like it was rotating, like the light on a police car.

‘It was almost flat on the bottom, and kinda high and peaked on top. We couldn’t see much except the outline and the lights at the end, because the whole thing was wrapped in a light like a halo, and it kept shimmering.’

The next night, Mrs. Mary Leonard and her three children returned from buying groceries to their home just southwest of Ann Arbor.

‘There was just one light,’ said Mrs. Leonard. ‘It glowed off and on, and it zig-zagged a little. It was greenish and reddish, and it looked like it had a little light on it. We saw it in the southwest about 8:30 p.m., more than half way up from the horizon.’ ”
