UFO Article:
“UFO’s On Radar”

By Micah Hanks, 26 March 2017
(KGRA Digital Broadcasting, Ogden, Utah)

In this article, Hanks mentions the 13-14 August 1956 RAF Bentwaters, UK; December 1980 Rendlesham Forest, UK (RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge); 8 March 1994 South West Michigan and 14 December 1994 Trumbull County, Ohio, radar UFO incidents.

Quote from the article:
“To end on a hopeful note, in instances where radar traces match the visual record of objects seen within a given timeframe and vicinity, one would hope that having both sets of data, at least in circumstances where visual conditions are favorable, might lend credence to the idea that physical objects were indeed present, at least in some of the better UFO reports involving radar over the years.”

From Michael D. Swords’ 2012 article about the 8 March 1994 South West Michigan UFO case (thebiggeststudy.blogspot.com
(I report about this article on 15 August 2017):
“The map at the left [the above map] shows the approximate locations of the NOAA radar station [at ‘A’], the most famous of the observations [by the Graves family, at the pink dewdrop], and several of the other reported sightings, marked with yellow circles, all of which were reported as happening at or VERY near 9:30pm. Rather astonishing. And I believe a little known fact about this case. It was as if Western Michigan ‘lit up’ with UFOs at the same time.”

UFO Journal Article:
“UFO OVER COPPER SMELTER”

Vol. 29, No. 7
Published: August 1981
(The A.P.R.O. Bulletin, Tucson, Arizona)

Source: AFU.se

Quote from the article (Page 1):
“On the evening of October 23rd, 1980, one of the most well-witnessed UFO sightings in history took place in the little mining town of Morenci, Arizona. Located on US 666, it is about 20 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona, which is on Interstate 10 in southeastern Arizona. Morenci is a typical Arizona copper mining town and the site of two huge copper smelters which are owned and operated by Phelps-Dodge Corporation.

APRO’s investigator on this case was Jim McCoy who did in-depth interviews with five of the witnesses. There were a host of other witnesses and hopefully they can be interviewed at a later date. However, inasmuch as the five men observed the object at relatively close range, their testimony is central to the facts in the case.

When the vehicle was brought to a stop and the men looked up, they were amazed to see a boomerang-shaped object approaching the north smoke stack of the smelter area at a very low speed which they later told Mr. McCoy that they estimated to be about five miles per hour. When it arrived at a position directly over the north stack, it stopped and hovered for a minute or so, then came straight down vertically to an estimated altitude of about 700 to 1,000 feet, not far above the stack. After a brief period of time a brillant light erupted from the forward apex of the boomerang configuration and shone directly down into the interior of the north smelter stack. The witnesses described this light as brighter than a search light or that of an arc welder.

APRO was alerted concerning the Morenci sighting on January 10 by Mr. Samuel Player, the editor of the Eastern Arizona Courier of Safford, Arizona, and some of the above information was carried in the press. In addition to the five smelter workers, who were ‘almost’ under the object, Greenlee County Sheriff Ralph Gomez, several Morenci businessmen among others, witnessed the passage of the huge object. One hundred (100) members of the Morenci High School band and the director were among the host of individuals who watched.

There are indications that this object was witnessed on at least one and possibly more occasions and the Bulletin will follow up on this case if further details come to hand.”

A Onda Ufológica de 1986”
(“The Official Night of the UFOs -
The UFO Wave of 1986”)

15 June 2016
(Portal Fenomenum (fenomenum.com.br), Brazil)

Quote from the UFO report (translation by Google Translate):
Introduction
The Official Night of the UFOs was not an isolated event. The case is part of a great ufological wave that began on March 19, increased in intensity in May and ended in August of that year. In this article, we relate all the known cases that occurred in Brazil in the mentioned period. To compose the time line of this wave, the official documents of the Brazilian Air Force, already made available, were used as source, newspapers and magazines of the time as well as studies of several national UFO groups.”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“REPORT NR.: IR-1-56 –
SUBJECT: (Unclassified) Unidentified
Flying Objects Reporting (UFOB)”

Date: 31 August 1956
(Project Blue Book, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.)

Source: NICAP.org

Quote from the document (not written in U.S. Department of Defense document format) (Page 4):
“ORIGINATING AGENCY: 81st Fighter Bomber Wing, England

Most significant are the reports of three courses of UFOBS tracked on the Bentwaters GCA Radar. These UFOBS flew courses as follows: 1 group of 12 to 15 UFOBS FROM a point 8 miles SW of Bentwaters to approximately 40-45 miles NE of Bentwaters at an estimated speed of 80 to 125 miles per hour; a single UFOB was tracked by the Bentwaters GCA from approximately 25 miles SE of Bentwaters to approximately 15 miles NW of Bentwaters at a speed estimated at more than 4,000 miles per hour; a third UFOB was reported as tracked by the Bentwaters GCA from approximately 30 miles E. of Bentwaters flying a westerly course to about 30 miles west of Bentwaters at an exceptionally high speed.

The GCA Operators making these radar sightings were of the opinion that malfunctions of the GCA Equipment did not cause these radar sightings.

The following information was obtained from USAF personnel assigned to RAF Station, Bentwaters, England concerning visual and radar sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects in the vicinity of their assigned station during the period 2120Z to 2220Z, 13 August 1956. The reliability of all the following sources of information is estimated to be usually reliable.”

The document, REPORT NR.: IR-1-56, is presented on Pages 4-9.

The acronym, UFOB, stands for “unidentified flying object.” It was created by the U.S. Air Force. The term is defined in the document, Air Force Regulation 200-2 (AFR 200-2).

UFO Report:
“The 1980 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 November 2007
Updated: 6 December 2016
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1980 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]). You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members: William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns).

Aug. 3, 1980; Norton AFB, San Bernardino, CA
9:00 PM. Three airmen and five civilians at separate locations sighted an object that looked like a ‘metallic balloon’ with two flat sides, according to a base spokesman. The airmen, who observed it through binoculars, said it was a ‘highly reflective metallic color.’ It either landed or hovered just above a grassy area near a taxiway on the base. Then it took off and flew away at an estimated 30-40 m.p.h. A little later six residents of the Highland area saw an object of the same description as it flew north and eventually passed over the San Bernardino Mountains. The witnesses called the sheriff’s department, and reported that the object was flying on a straight course about 200-300 feet above the ground. About an hour later  a sheriff’s helicopter flew to the area to investigate, but saw nothing. No radar tracking were reported. (Riverside Enterprise, Aug. 6, 1980)”

Wikipedia article: “Norton Air Force Base”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“Norton Air Force Base (IATA: SBD) (1942–1994) was a United States Air Force facility 2 miles (3.2 km) east of downtown San Bernardino, California, in San Bernardino County.

Overview

For the majority of its operational lifetime, Norton was a logistics depot and heavy-lift transport facility for a variety of military aircraft, equipment and supplies as part of Air Materiel/Air Force Logistics Command (1946–1966), then as part of Military Airlift/Air Mobility Command (1966–1994).

Major secondary missions of Norton Air Force Base was as Headquarters Air Defense Command for Southern California, during the 1950s and 1960s. The Air Force Audio-Visual Center produced air force films for training and public relations. The Air Force Now film, shown at monthly commander’s calls at air force bases around the world was produced at Norton. Norton hosted numerous Air Force Reserve transport units. The Office of the Inspector General was located at Norton, as was the Directorate of Aerospace Safety and the Air Force Audit Agency Headquarters.

“Disk Reports Keep Defense Center Busy”

2 August 1952
(Spokane Daily Chronicle, Washington)

The article reports on the UFO investigation work of the Air Defense Command (headquartered at Ent Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado):

Wikipedia article: “Aerospace Defense Command”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“Aerospace Defense Command was a major command of the United States Air Forces, responsible for continental air defence. It was activated in 1968 and disbanded in 1980. Its predecessor, Air Defense Command, was established in 1946, briefly inactivated in 1950, reactivated in 1951, and then redesignated Aerospace rather than Air in 1968. Its mission was to provide air defense of the Continental United States (CONUS). It directly controlled all active measures, and was tasked to coordinate all passive means of air defense.”

“The Val Johnson CE2 case of 1979”

By Chris A. Rutkowski, 31 August 2015
(Ufology Research, Winnipeg, Canada)

Marshall County (Warren, Minnesota) Deputy Sheriff Val Johnson encountered a small UFO which damaged his car on 27 August 1979.

Johnson first sighted the UFO at around 2:00 a.m., according to the Wikipedia article about the UFO incident. After having watched the UFO for a while, it suddenly dived at his car and hit the windshield. The car skidded across the highway and ended up in the ditch. Johnson lost consciousness after the UFO hit the windshield. The incident occurred in the Red River Valley, an agricultural area in North-Western Minnesota near the North Dakota border:

Quote from the article:
“Like I said, it’s a good case.

I wrote about it in my ufozine The Swamp Gas Journal, back in 1980. Since the electronic copy of the issue vanishes from the Internet from time to time, I will present it here for (hopeful) posterity.”

UFO Journal Report:
“THE UFO CONNECTION: STARTLING IMPLICATIONS
FOR AUSTRALIA’S NORTH WEST CAPE
AND FOR AUSTRALIA’S SECURITY”
by Bill Chalker, Volume 31, No. 5, 1986
(Flying Saucer Review, London, UK)
(ignaciodarnaude.com)

Part I of the report focuses on the UFO book, “Clear Intent” (written by Lawrence A. Fawcett and Barry J. Greenwood):

This part mentions the UFO incidents that occurred over Kirtland Air Force Base (Albuquerque, New Mexico) in August 1980.

The Manzano Weapons Storage Area at Kirtland AFB is one of the largest nuclear weapon depositories in the world and the Base houses some highly secret installations, including Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) (develops electronics for nuclear weapons and cryptological devices for the NSA, among other things) and the Air Force Weapons Laboratory, Chalker writes.

Part II informs about the UFO incident that occurred over Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt (North West Cape, Western Australia) on 25 October 1973, at around 7:15 p.m.

The UFO (circular, black, with a dome on top and small lower area) measured 30 feet in diameter.

The Station, along with other U.S. bases in Australia, was put on full alert on 11 October 1973, five days after the Middle East (Yom Kippur) War broke out.
