UFO News Article:
“Belgian military investigates UFO reports”

9 December 1989
(The Item, Sumter, South Carolina)

Source: Google News

The whole article:
“The [Air Force] and police are investigating numerous UFO sightings near the border with the Netherlands and West Germany, officials said Friday.

Since Nov. 29, dozens of people and police officials in the northeastern Liege province said they’ve seen luminous objects in the sky, with some of them describing a flying platform scanning the surface with three huge searchlights, while others talk of dancing lights.

During the same period, air traffic controllers ‘found radar blips on the screens that could not be immediately explained,’ said Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Michel Mandel.

At the time of the sightings there were no authorized low-level flights in the region.

‘We are looking for a rational explanation,’ he said.

Although Mandel cast doubts on several witness accounts, the Belgian Society for the Study of Space Phenomena said Friday it would send members to the German-speaking region in Liege and across the border in the Netherlands and West Germany this weekend.

The society said it had 150 witness accounts, in addition to photo and videotaped material.”

My comment:
The Item reports on the first UFO sightings that were made during the 1989-1990 Belgian UFO wave.

I also reported about this Associated Press article on 26 May 2012.

Wikipedia article: “Belgian Air Component”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The Belgian Air Component (Dutch: Luchtcomponent, French: Composante air) is the air arm of the Belgian Armed Forces,[2][3] and until January 2002 it was officially known as the Belgian Air Force (Dutch: Belgische Luchtmacht; French: Force aérienne belge). The Belgian military aviation was founded in 1909 and is one of the world's oldest air services.”

UFO Report:
“ERNAGE 1989: Les faits et leur analyse”
(“ERNAGE 1989: The facts and their analysis”)

By A. Amond, W. De Brouwer, P. Ferryn and A. Meessen
(Belgian Committee for the Study of Space Phenomena (Comité Belge d’Etude des Phénomènes Spatiaux) (COBEPS), Belgium)

This UFO report focuses on the UFO sighting of Belgian Army Lieutenant Colonel André Amond and his wife, Chantal.

The incident occurred at Ernage, near Gembloux, in Belgium on the evening of 11 December 1989.

The report concludes that the Belgian UFO wave sightings in 1989 and 1990 “can’t be explained in terms of helicopters or other conventional aircraft.”

Regarding the Ernage UFO case, the report says: “Our conclusion is straight forward: The sighting at Ernage on December 11, 1989 of Lt Col André AMOND and his wife cannot be related to any known aerial vehicle.”

UFO Report:
“The 1989 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 August 2008
Updated: 19 December 2013
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“This is currently a 14-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1989. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1989 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]. You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members; Rebecca Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns). Bob Gribble’s entries are those filed with the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington, now operated by Peter Davenport. Trace cases are now being entered with the help of Ted Phillips, Center for Physical Trace Research and retrofitted into previous chronologies as time permits. Since I was Indiana State Director (MUFON) at that time, many of our Indiana cases are listed here.

Of possible interest, the MADAR Project (which I headed for 20 years) had 5 anomalistic EM readings which are listed chronologically here.

June 4, 1989; Palmdale, CA
7:45 PM. A security guard and an air traffic controller at Air Force Facility 42 in Palmdale, California witnessed a silver flying object and three orb-shaped UFOs during testing of the B1-B bomber. There was also a rumor of an abduction occurring on this date at the same facility. (Source: MUFON UFO Journal, November 1990).

June 11, 1989; near St. John’s, Newfoundland
7:00 AM. A Canadian Airlines International crew watched a dark grey or black ovoid object, estimated to be about 2 meters in length, make complex maneuvers in the sky not far from St. John’s, Newfoundland for three minutes. (Source: Chris Rutkowski, International UFO Reporter, July 1990, p. 10).

July 22, 1989; Trenton, ME
3:30 PM. Over Blue Hill Bay -- At 3:30 p.m. Randy Rhodes, a police dispatcher for the City of Ellsworth, and Bill Reiff, an attorney, took off in a Beechcraft Bonanza from the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. At around 3:45 p.m. they spotted a huge metallic disc, shining like polished aluminum, at the 9 o'clock position. It was at the same altitude as their plane--approximately 5100-5200 feet. The object suddenly moved dead ahead to the 12 o'clock position and it took on a reddish or rose color. Not very enthusiastic about continuing on with this thing in front of them, they turned back for the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. The Aerial Direction Finder was working at the time but the DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) was not receiving. It had never before given them a problem, and 3-4 minutes after the object disappeared the DME came back on. When they landed they discovered that there had been power surges and outages on the ground, and they recalled that when they last observed the object it was headed in the direction of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power plant in Wiscasset. However, a spokesman for the Bangor HydroElectric Company later reported that three limbs falling over a transmission line when a resident cut down a tree caused the outage. July 28, 1989; Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia
11:20 PM. A domed disc-shaped object was seen over a high security rocket weapons depot in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia, by four military witnesses, including the two main witnesses named Voloshin and Tishchayev. The UFO glowed a phosphorescent green. It circled the depot three times, accelerated and then stopped abruptly. It shot away when a Soviet fighter jet appeared. UFO TV News Magazine Report:
Die Belgische UFO Welle
(The Belgian UFO Wave) (Explosiv, RTL, Germany)

RTL reports on the 1989-1990 Belgian UFO wave:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSso2vKwcn8

Two Eupen Police Officers chased 2 UFOs (or the same UFO) on 29 November 1989.

The Furman family who also resides in Eupen has allegedly sighted more than 30 UFOs since November 1989.

And the RTL TV crew managed to film one of the UFOs on 7 December 1989. This UFO footage was corroborated by the Belgian Air Force’s Control and Reporting Centre (CRC) in Glons. The CRC radar registered an unknown object in the same area where RTL filmed the UFO. Colonel Billen, Belgian Air Force said the unknown object was neither an aircraft nor a blimp.

A Belgian animal documentary film maker also managed to film a triangular shaped UFO, according to RTL.

Roswell FOIA Request Statement by
U.S. Representative Steven H. Schiff (Republican)

In this UFO documentary segment Steven Schiff comments about the runaround he received by the U.S. Department of Defense, when he searched for records pertaining to the Roswell case:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1875621521916499393

Schiff: “ … got the complete runaround by the Defence Department, to be referred to an agency that’s supposed to have the documents; and they don’t have the documents. That’s something I’ve just never experienced before!

I think the Department of Defense is acting like there’s a cover-up, even if in fact there is no cover-up.”

And what’s interesting is that Schiff was also a National Guard reservist. So he wasn’t an enemy of the U.S. Military (Pentagon). He was only interested in obtaining information regarding the Roswell case.

Steven Harvey Schiff was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing the first district of New Mexico from 1989 until his death in 1998.

There’s one fact regarding the Roswell case (apart from the below radio news report) which virtually proves that something (whatever it was) important was going on.

The RAAF (Roswell Army Air Field) administrative records from March 1945 to December 1949 and outgoing messages from October 1946 through December 1949 were inexplicably destroyed!

UFO Article (Blog):
“NIDS and ‘triangular’ UAP”

By Keith Basterfield, 23 December 2019
(UFOs – scientific research, Campbelltown,
New South Wales, Australia)

Quote from the article:
Introduction

I am continuing my exploration of material which appeared on the former website of the now defunct National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS) founded by Las Vegas businessman Robert T Bigelow, in 1995 and ceasing in 2004. Most researchers that I know, are completely unaware of this resource.

Background

One of the two foci of NIDS was research into the UFO phenomenon. There was an upsurge in the number of reports of ‘triangular’ shaped objects in the 1990’s. Thus it was reasonable that NIDS would take a look into this aspect of the phenomenon.”
