UFO Report:
“The 1989 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 August 2008
Updated: 19 December 2013
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“This is currently a 14-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1989. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1989 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]. You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members; Rebecca Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns). Bob Gribble’s entries are those filed with the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington, now operated by Peter Davenport. Trace cases are now being entered with the help of Ted Phillips, Center for Physical Trace Research and retrofitted into previous chronologies as time permits. Since I was Indiana State Director (MUFON) at that time, many of our Indiana cases are listed here.

Of possible interest, the MADAR Project (which I headed for 20 years) had 5 anomalistic EM readings which are listed chronologically here.

June 4, 1989; Palmdale, CA
7:45 PM. A security guard and an air traffic controller at Air Force Facility 42 in Palmdale, California witnessed a silver flying object and three orb-shaped UFOs during testing of the B1-B bomber. There was also a rumor of an abduction occurring on this date at the same facility. (Source: MUFON UFO Journal, November 1990).

June 11, 1989; near St. John’s, Newfoundland
7:00 AM. A Canadian Airlines International crew watched a dark grey or black ovoid object, estimated to be about 2 meters in length, make complex maneuvers in the sky not far from St. John’s, Newfoundland for three minutes. (Source: Chris Rutkowski, International UFO Reporter, July 1990, p. 10).

July 22, 1989; Trenton, ME
3:30 PM. Over Blue Hill Bay -- At 3:30 p.m. Randy Rhodes, a police dispatcher for the City of Ellsworth, and Bill Reiff, an attorney, took off in a Beechcraft Bonanza from the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. At around 3:45 p.m. they spotted a huge metallic disc, shining like polished aluminum, at the 9 o'clock position. It was at the same altitude as their plane--approximately 5100-5200 feet. The object suddenly moved dead ahead to the 12 o'clock position and it took on a reddish or rose color. Not very enthusiastic about continuing on with this thing in front of them, they turned back for the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. The Aerial Direction Finder was working at the time but the DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) was not receiving. It had never before given them a problem, and 3-4 minutes after the object disappeared the DME came back on. When they landed they discovered that there had been power surges and outages on the ground, and they recalled that when they last observed the object it was headed in the direction of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power plant in Wiscasset. However, a spokesman for the Bangor HydroElectric Company later reported that three limbs falling over a transmission line when a resident cut down a tree caused the outage. (Source: UFOE Vol. II, Section III; Leland Bechtel, MUFON UFO Journal, November 1989, p. 19)

July 28, 1989; Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia
11:20 PM. A domed disc-shaped object was seen over a high security rocket weapons depot in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia, by four military witnesses, including the two main witnesses named Voloshin and Tishchayev. The UFO glowed a phosphorescent green. It circled the depot three times, accelerated and then stopped abruptly. It shot away when a Soviet fighter jet appeared. UFO Case Report:
“Subject: Ramona, California, October 15, 1974”

1 October 2005
By Joan Woodward, Animal Reaction Specialist
(NICAP.org)

The case involves possible U.S. Navy jets.

The whole UFO case report:
Animal Reaction Feature:
Witnesses noted numerous animal reactions when a circular object flew overhead. The object’s altitude was not estimated, but the object appeared to have landed on a hillside before rising and flying overhead.

·        Horses excitedly whinnied and bucked, one kicked a rail off a fence.
·        One chained dog ran excitedly in and out of its doghouse, sometimes smashing into the back of the doghouse with great force.
·        Another dog grasped the sleeve of a girl and tried to pull her into the house.
·        Goats were reported to be ‘jumping around.’
·        Chickens were cackling in the dark and scrambling about.
·        A cat ran into the side of a garage, stunning itself.

The sighting:
In the evening, after dark, five young people saw a round object maneuvering over Santa Maria Valley. [Checking a topographic map, Ramona, where the witnesses were located, is in the Santa Maria Valley. The valley is described by the local Iron Mountain Conservancy as gentle lush grasslands surrounded by low-laying hills—jw]

After maneuvering over the valley, the object landed on a hillside, gradually turned ruby red, then intensely white. A compass needle alternated erratically from north to northeast in one-second intervals while the object was on the hillside. Then the object hovered above the ground, and streaked toward the witnesses. As the object flew overhead, the animals reacted as described above, the TV had blue spots and vertical bands, the radio would not work, and the compass needle lodged itself against the glass cover.

A further description of the object was that it was ruby red with a blue halo around it as it flew overhead. The sound of the object was described as ‘a mix between a hum an a fog-horn.’ [The distance of the landing site from the witnesses is not estimated. Exactly when the sound was heard is unclear—throughout the sighting or only when the object flew overhead?—jw]

After the object flew over, aircraft the witnesses thought to be Navy jets followed.

Both EM effects and sound were reported. No physiological effects or traces were reported.

Gribble, Bob, 1989, Looking Back, MUFON UFO Journal, no. 258, October 1989, page 24 [Copied below]:

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO – October 1974: Jeannie, Beth, Linda and Tony Overfelt, and Pat Nelson, all of Ramona, California, had a frightening experience on the evening of the 15th as they watched a mysterious object maneuver over Santa Maria Valley. The object landed on a hillside, gradually turned ruby red, then intensely white, hovered a short time over the ground then streaked toward Country Estates. The object was perfectly round. According to the five young people, when the object flew overhead the horses began excitedly whinnying and bucking; one kicked off a fence rail. A dog grasped one of the girls by the sleeve and tried to pull her into the house.  The other dog, which was chained, ran in and out of the doghouse, often smashing into the back of the doghouse with great force.

The goats were ‘jumping around,’ and the chickens were scrambling and cackling in the dark. The cat ran with great force into the side of the garage, stunning itself. No radio or TV station would work, the TV had blue spots and vertical bands. Tony’s compass alternated erratically from north to northeast in one-second periods when the object was on the hillside, but when it flew overhead the compass needle lodged itself against the glass cover. After the object flew over, some airplanes followed, which the young people believed to be Navy jets. The object appeared to be ruby red with a blue halo around it, when moving rapidly at high elevation. Its sound was described as ‘a mix between a hum and a fog-horn.’

UFO News Article:
“Strange lights baffle viewers”, 11 October 1989
(The Lawrence Daily Journal-World, Kansas)

5 coloured lights were seen over Commerce and Miami (North-Eastern Oklahoma) on the night of 10 October 1989, according to the article:

Quote from the article:
“Commerce Police Chief Bob Baine, who looked at the lights through binoculars and a high-powered telescope, said ‘they were nothing that looked like an aircraft.’

‘We don’t know what they are. We had received a call about 8:30 p.m. of a UFO around the Brunswick plant and we thought it was a joke,’ Baine said. ‘But when officers arrived on the scene they saw what looked like lights that seemed to move in different directions.’

Commerce is situated 6 kilometres (4 miles) north of Miami.

UFO TV News Report:
“Bruxelles ovnis”
(“Brussels UFOs”)

25 October 1991
(Antenne 2, France)

Source: ina.fr

Video text:
“Un congres se tient en ce moment à Bruxelles, réunissant scientifiques et militaires chargés de faire le point sur les observations mystérieuses d’OVNI dans le ciel belge qui ont défrayé la chronique en 1989 et 1990, un programme spécial de surveillance aérienne ayant d’ailleurs été mis en place à la suite de ces phénomènes.”

English translation (by Google Translate):
“A congress is being held in Brussels, bringing together scientists and soldiers responsible for taking stock of the mysterious UFO sightings in the Belgian sky which hit the headlines in 1989 and 1990, a special aerial surveillance programme was moreover put in place as a result of these phenomena.”

My comment:
In this TV report – Antenne 2 presents one of the most impressive UFO videos ever recorded (in my opinion).

The UFO has three steady, white lights on the tips of the triangle and a pulsating light in the centre.

UFO Mailing List Post:
“For The Record: Animal Mutilations”

From: UFO UpDates – Toronto, 11 July 2002
(UFO UpDates, Toronto, Canada)

UFO UpDates presents several animal mutilation news articles.

Quote from a 2 February 1989 The Cullman Times (Alabama) newspaper article:
“Also a Cullman resident reported a huge orange ball UFO a few weeks before the mutilation.”

The cow mutilation occurred in Bremen.

Bremen (located 23 kilometres (14 miles) south west of Cullman) is an unincorporated town in Cullman County, Alabama, according to Wikipedia.

I also reported about this mailing list post on 10 October 2012.

Roswell FOIA Request Statement by
U.S. Representative Steven H. Schiff (Republican)

In this UFO documentary segment Steven Schiff comments about the runaround he received by the U.S. Department of Defense, when he searched for records pertaining to the Roswell case:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1875621521916499393

Schiff: “ … got the complete runaround by the Defence Department, to be referred to an agency that’s supposed to have the documents; and they don’t have the documents. That’s something I’ve just never experienced before!

I think the Department of Defense is acting like there’s a cover-up, even if in fact there is no cover-up.”

And what’s interesting is that Schiff was also a National Guard reservist. So he wasn’t an enemy of the U.S. Military (Pentagon). He was only interested in obtaining information regarding the Roswell case.

Steven Harvey Schiff was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing the first district of New Mexico from 1989 until his death in 1998.

There’s one fact regarding the Roswell case (apart from the below radio news report) which virtually proves that something (whatever it was) important was going on.

The RAAF (Roswell Army Air Field) administrative records from March 1945 to December 1949 and outgoing messages from October 1946 through December 1949 were inexplicably destroyed!

Video text:
“In this video, retired Belgian Air Force General Wilfried De Brouwer discusses a wave of triangular UFOs he investigated in 1989 and 1990. He was in charge of the Belgian Air Force’s official investigation. They never came to a definite conclusion as to where the mysterious triangles came from. De Brouwer also discusses the controversial photograph that was allegedly taken in Petit-Rechain.”

Wilfried De Brouwer is a retired Major General, according to the website, mil.be.

UFO TV Report by Kenny Young:
“Fernald UFO”
The 1994 Fluor Daniel Fernald UFO Incident,
Fernald, Ohio (CPC21)

A UFO was filmed over Fernald, Ohio on 23 November 1994, at 5:48 a.m. by the Fluor Daniel Fernald, Inc. company. Fernald, Ohio is situated 32 kilometres (20 miles) north west of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Fluor Daniel Fernald was hired by the United States Department of Energy to clean up the former uranium processing site Fernald Feed Materials Production Center near Fernald, Ohio.

Fernald Feed Materials Production Center fabricated uranium fuel cores for the U.S. nuclear weapons production complex from 1951 to 1989.

The U.S. Congress approved closure and environmental cleanup of the facility in 1990.

Fluor Daniel Fernald, part of the Fluor Corporation, was awarded the cleanup contract in 1992. The company completed their part of the cleanup in October 2006.

This UFO case was extensively investigated by the late Kenny Young. And Young was able to get hold of the plant’s security camera UFO video.

The Fluor Daniel Fernald UFO footage was retained and held without announcement by The Department of Energy for almost three years – until its existence was revealed through the investigative work of Kenny Young.

The UFO footage proves that at least one unknown object has manoeuvred over a high security U.S. government nuclear weapons facility:
