“5 Discs Sighted By United Flight
July 4, 1947
Nr. Emmett, Idaho”
(NICAP.org)
The whole UFO case report:
“Fran Ridge:
This is case #34 of the Project Blue Book ‘Unknowns’. That night a United Airlines crew flying near Emmett, Idaho, saw five ‘somethings’ which were thin and smooth on the bottom and rough appearing on top, silhouetted against the sunset shortly after the plane took off from Boise at 8:04 P.M. ‘We saw them clearly. We followed them in a northeasterly direction for about 45 miles . They finally disappeared. We were unable to tell whether they out sped us or disintegrated.’
Brad Sparks:
July 4, 1947; Near Emmett , Idaho (BBU 34)
9:12 [8:17? 8:12?] p.m. (MST). United Air Lines Flight 105 Capt. Emil J. Smith, First Officer Ralph Stevens, Stewardess Marty Morrow who was called in by Smith as a confirming witness, flying NW on heading 300° from Boise to Seattle at about 7,000 ft , saw 5 disc-shaped objects with flat bottoms and rough tops (possibly 100+ ft size) move at varying speeds, in loose formation [or evenly spaced?] roughly 1,000 ft higher in altitude about 10° left of their heading [or at 290°], with one high and to the right of the others in the distance, all disappearing to the W [NW?] in a gradual climb at about 9:20 p.m. as 5 [4?] additional similar objects came into view slightly higher heading W [or took off to the NW; 3 objects in a line with 1 off to the side]. Smith tried to close on the objects at 185 mph as he climbed from 7,000 to 8,000 ft but could not. 12-15-mins. (Berliner; cf. McDonald 1968; Bloecher 1967; FBI..)”

Quote from the UFO report:
“This 26 page chrono involves a number of people.
First of all, I want to thank Ted Bloecher. His 1967 work, the entire updated
version, is available on the NICAP site (See below). Over a thousand incidents,
many of which are included in the chronology below, are listed in the charts
from ‘The Report on the UFO Wave of 1947’ (Reference 1). We also wish to thank Wendy Connors and Mike
Hall for allowing us to post their great book, ‘Alfred Loedding and the Great
Flying Saucer Wave of 1947’ .
No 1947 work would be complete without the aid of Jan Aldrich of Project 1947.
I want to thank all the members of the A-Team who made this possible. To view
the 1947 sightings listed by Blue Book click here. Be sure to click on and read
the two great books below. Finally, I want thank Loren Gross for thoughtfully
and diligently collecting data many years ago for his UFO Histories and
supplemental notes, in particular here the year 1947. And a big thanks to CUFOS
and Mary Castnor for housing them on the CUFOS site.

“Scientist Accuses CIA of
World Plot to ‘Debunk’ UFOs”
9 July 1967
(The Philadelphia
Inquirer, Pennsylvania )
Source: theufochronicles.com
Quote from the article:
“An American scientist contended Saturday that flying
saucers were visiting the earth from another world and accused governments of a
deliberate program to debunk their existence.
Prof. James McDonald, 47, senior physicist of the Institute of Atmospheric
Physics and professor in the department of meteorology at the University of Minnesota , said he had no scientific
explanation for the visits.
But he told newsmen here that scientific proof of
flying saucers and acceptance of their existence had been delayed by a
deliberate debunking program arranged by many governments and backed by the
U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
McDonald, who was in Sydney
to investigate sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) seen over Australia , said
he did not believe there was a CIA conspiracy to cover up the truth but rather
that they were trying to sweep the problem under the carpet.
This, he said, was a device to solve the problem of
the large number of operatives tied up on UFO sightings.”
NOTE: Dr. James E. McDonald was a professor at the University of Arizona ,
not Minnesota .

“Do Records Show Proof of UFOs?”
9 February 2018
(National Archives and Records Administration,
Quote from the article:
“Ever wonder if we are alone in this universe?
Over the years, many researchers and scientists have
scoured government documents at the National Archives in search of proof that
life exists beyond Earth.
The National Archives and Records Administration is
actually home to several collections of documents pertaining to unidentified
flying objects (UFOs) or ‘flying disks.’ And over the decades, those resources
have been thoroughly probed and scrutinized for even a hint of more information
and proof of alien existence.
One set of documents, known as Project Blue Book,
includes retired, declassified records from the United States Air Force (USAF),
currently in the custody of the National Archives. It relates to the USAF
investigations of UFOs from 1947 to 1969.
According to a US Air Force Fact Sheet, a total of
12,618 sightings were reported to Project Blue Book during this time period. Of
those, 701 remained ‘unidentified.’ The
project — once headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio — officially ended
in 1969.
The subject of UFOs has long fascinated National
Archives staff members as well. In a July 15, 2017, National Archives The Text
Message blog post, ‘See Something, Say Something’: UFO Reporting Requirements,
Office of Military Government for Bavaria, Germany, May 1948 archivists Greg
Bradsher and Sylvia Naylor share a brief history of Project Blue Book, the
project’s alternative names over the course of its existence, and some
information on the infamous Roswell, New Mexico, UFO incident.
As more documents are searched, processed, and
declassified, what evidence might be found of alien and UFO existence at the
National Archives? That remains to be seen, but based on past history, it’s
clear that researchers and UFO enthusiasts will continue to dig for more
information. The widespread fascination with the possibility of the existence
of alien life forms and UFOs continues to arouse great passion and controversy
all over Earth.”

Quote from the document:
“Witnesses [sic] car stalled. He looked out of window
and observed an object 70-80
ft in height, 10 ft in diameter at bottom and 25 ft in diameter at the top.
Metallic grey color with red-orange color or glow on close side and blue glow
on far side. Sound similar to vaccum cleaner as object departed. Shape of
object like a mushroom or light bulb. Object observed hovering about 4 ft off the ground. Object
vanished by moving horizontally to the West. WX was partly cloudy. Additional
witness reportedly had car stalled too. Isolated low clouds in the area.
COMMENTS: With the shape reported as a mushroom, a low
cloud close to the observer is unlikely. One (cloud) further away might assume
this shape. A cloud observation or some unusual WX phenomena might trigger the
report however this would not account for the reported car stalling. Case
regarded as UNIDENTIFIED.”

Aug. 11, 1954; Nr. the Yoron-Jima Island in the Pacific Ocean (BBU 3162)
8:55 p.m. local. This is a ship report sent to Project
Blue Book under Navy UFO regulations and is listed as an unknown. P. L.
Percharde, electrical engineer and assistant manager of Moeller Shipwrecker
Co., of Okinawa , saw a line of blue lights
underneath a blue circle with a black center fly over ship and climb,
illuminating and agitating the clouds.
Antonio Rullan:
5.2 SS Docteur Angier - August 12 (correction, 11)
1954
At 20:55 local time near the Yoron-Jima
Island in the Pacific
Ocean , two civilian witnesses saw a 100-ft diameter disk approach
their ship from the NE. The two witnesses (Mr. Percharde and his assistant
Kosei Nakamoto) were on the deck of SS Docteur Angier when they were first
attracted to a thin line of blue light in the sky about 300 ft over sea level. As
the light approached the ship, it became an ellipse and as it came directly
over the ship it became a circle. The center of the disk was jet black and was
surrounded by an annular ring. The width of the annular ring was blue in color
and its inner edge was pink. Its 100 foot diameter was estimated when the object
flew over the ship. After the object reached the ship, it rose vertically and
disappeared into clouds at 2,000
feet elevation. Both witnesses were interviewed by USAF
Intelligence. The USAF intelligence officer who prepared the Air Intelligence
Information Report drew a sketch of the sighting based on the interrogations of
the two witnesses. Figure 21 shows the diagram made by the US Intelligence
Officer to describe this UFO sighting. (Source: Blue Book UFO Reports at Sea by
