Sometime before 3:55 a.m. MST. NMCC Memo: The following information was received from the Air Force Operations center at 0555 EST: ‘Two UFOs are reported near the flight line at Cannon AFB, New Mexico. Security Police observing them reported the UFOs to be 25 yards in diameter, gold or silver in color with blue light on top, hole in the middle and red light on the bottom. Air Force is checking with radar. Additionally, checking weather inversion data.’ (Actual FOIA document) Among other UFO researchers who arrived in Clovis were several members of the ‘UFO Study Group,’ which has about 40 members, mainly employees of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories ­ the facility where the atomic bomb was developed in World War II. Police said scores of sightings were reported between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday an hour before the Los Alamos observers arrived. (Las Cruces SUN NEWS, Sunday Morning, Jan. 25, 1976)

Reports of the sightings have increased steadily since the first night. Most of the reports have been of faraway objects, but Town Marshal Willie Ronquillo of Texico said he followed a silent object about 300 yards over his car. Ronquillo said the object, which had green, yellow and blue lights, sped away at a high speed to the north. Lenore Hildebrand of the UFO center in Wisconsin said Jim Epps of Valley Center, Calif., would arrive in Clovis. She said an Air Force officer from Clovis called the center Friday night and told them he ‘had a very close sighting and was able to witness a type of vehicle that did maneuver and that was unlike any type aircraft he has ever seen.’ (Las Cruces SUN News, same as above)”

UFO News Article: “Objects Visible Near Pt. Austin – AF Confirms ‘Radar Returns’ On Night Of UFO Sightings”

“Official confirmation of ‘radar returns’ on the scopes at the 754th Radar Squadron in Port Austin, at the same time private citizens and police officers claimed they saw unidentified flying objects (UFOs) southwest of the village, has come from the U.S. Air Force NORAD Combat Operation Center in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado.

As many as seven or eight bright glowing objects that changed color, shape, and moved horizontally and vertically at incredible speeds were sighted early Tuesday (7 September 1976) by the manager of a campground located eight miles southwest of Port Austin.

The initial sightings were made in the nearby Oak Beach area and reportedly confirmed by several summer residents of lhat vicinity.

Two Huron Sheriff deputies also reported watching the objects for several minutes at altitudes ranging (based on estimates) from as high as 40,000 feet and as low as 1,000 feet.

One of the deputies, 24-year-old Greg Gordon of Port Austin, attempted to photograph the objects with an instamatic camera carried as standard equipment in the patrol car. The objects vanished at daybreak, but the officers said their sudden disappearance from the radar scopes at Port Austin coincided exactly with the sounding of the electronic burglar alarm at the Air Force station store (PX).

Although the Air Force has a reputation for reluctance in making comments relative to UFO sightings, the following official statement was released Tuesday afternoon through the local installation by information officer Lt. Robert W. Newman:

‘Radar Operators at the 754th Radar Squadron at Port Austin AFS, MI, reported seeing radar returns at approximately 0145 hours E.D.T.

‘The returns were kept under observation for approximately 30 minutes. Some personnel on duty also visually sited lights in the sky in the same approximate area.

‘The NORAD Combat Operation Center located in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, was informed. The radar returns posed no apparent threat and no actions were taken to dispatch aircraft to the scene. (Radar returns were defined as ‘anything that shows up on the radar screen.’)’

On Tuesday night, a predictable number of new sightings were reported mainly in the Bad Axe area, but these were believed either to be stars and possibly a lighted weather satellite visible as it passes through the sky on clear nights.

No plausible explanation has been given for the objects observed early Tuesday.”

UFO Report: “The 1972 UFO Chronology”

“This is a 7-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1972. I had taken a job transfer in 1971 which took me away from my NICAP subcommittee team at Vincennes, Indiana, and was now in contact with Walt Andrus working as a State Section Director for MUFON at Hillsboro, Illinois. By now the Air Force UFO project Blue Book had been closed down for two years, but rumors shown to be true indicate they were still collecting reports (those which could affect national security) under a different system (see Bolender memo), one that had been in place long before the official closing. The effect of the media hype, which was the planned result of the Air Force officially ducking out of the UFO business, may have taken a toll on reporting by civilian sources. But this printout shows something was still going on. One of the most impressive incidents I was directly involved in was one by my younger brother who was somewhat of a skeptic at the time. (See October 9).

A large number of witnesses, including police officers, FAA officials, U.S. Coast Guard personnel and numerous other Muskegon citizens observed a brightly colored UFO around 9:15 P.M., in the sky above this Michigan township. The object, according to most witnesses, appeared to give off a bright yellowish-white light and it traveled slowly across the sky. Witnesses stated the object seemed to stop and slowly change colors at various times during the period of observation The Coast Guard, which indicated many of its own personnel had witnessed the UFO, also indicated that channel 16, a UHF band used by Coast Guard, was filled with a strong code signal that could not be deciphered. Government officials later said that an investigation would be conducted and that they were under orders not to comment on the case until it was completed. The Air Force was contacted by the Michigan States Police at the time of the sighting. (Reference: UFO INVESTIGATOR, May 1972, page 3)”

UFO News Article: “George Airmen Sight a Bright Orange Object”

“Two airmen verified each otehr’s [sic] report yesterday (19 June 1972) of seeing a ‘bright orange object’ about 1 a.m. that seemed to be 375 feet in diameter as it sank behind a building southwest of their security-police beat at the base.

The airmen, Gary Corley and Randolph Wogoman, said the UFO (unidentified flying object) sighting apparently went unobserved by anyone else. They reported it to the air police, and to the Victorville Sheriff’s Office and Adelanto Police Department.

No evidence was found of the object having landed, it was reported by the base information office.”

George Air Force Base was located within the city limits, 13 kilometres (8 miles) north west of central Victorville, California.

“Fran Ridge:

The principle witness to the phenomena had been a Lt. Colonel who was Wing Director of Personnel of the 146th Fighter-Bomber Wing headquartered at George Field so it was no wonder the case sparked an immediate reaction by the High Command. This is apparently #1 on Major Dewey Fournet’s ‘motions study’ UFOs cases as presented to the Robertson Panel in January of 1953, whereby he deduced that UFOs were guided by intelligence and the flight characteristics indicated that the intelligence was beyond ‘us’. This is a Project Blue Book unknown and later information (15 Feb 2006) seems to indicate that this might classify as a radar/visual case. (see Lt. Col. link below)

Brad Sparks:

May 1, 1952; George AFB, California (BBU 1176)

10:50 am. An Air Force officer and a group of airmen in a separate location observed a formation of five white disc-shaped objects, three in front and two behind. The trailing objects darted around in zig-zag motions. Suddenly the objects switched to a tight V-formation, made an almost 90-degree turn and sped away over the mountains. The five objects were sighted at George AFB and from a golf course 4 miles away. Observer: S/Sgt David Darbyrsira 146th Air Police Squadron sighted the 5 objects at at George AFB, at 1050 hours PDT, about one hour after a cloud from an atom blast was sighted in the direction of Las Vegas.”

In October of 2006 Jan Aldrich brought up the ‘Ten Lost Documents’. Item #1 was the Fournet Motion Study. Brad Sparks had already found the CIA documents that were the key to the puzzle and had identified two of the motion study cases right off. This, then, is the directory for the famous ‘motion study’ by Maj. Dewey Fournet. This study is significant and it is similar to the earlier 1948 ‘Estimate of the Situation’ and illustrates once again the reason why the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis was seriously considered. And as always, the study was not stopped as it went up, but was rejected at the top. As we identify the cases used in the MS we will provide links to them at the bottom of this directory. But first, the history of the Motion Study begins with Captain Edward J. Ruppelt, at that time the head of the Air Force Project Blue Book. (See link below) By March 23, 2009 I had begun work on the UFO Intelligence Summary for the Motion Study cases, the current copy is the end result of that search. This is an on-going project to identify and document all 17 cases listed.

This following formations chart is a new CIA release in 2001 of a better copy of the same chart released by CIA in poor shape in 1978.

I came across page 5 and there was part of Dewey Fournet’s famous but not seen ‘motions study’ of UFOs as presented to the Robertson Panel. According to what one can reasonably assume by looking at the page, Dewey presented 17 cases [from which he deduced that UFOs were guided by intelligence and the flight characteristics indicated that the intelligence was beyond ‘us’.] This number rings true as Ed Ruppelt says that Dewey sifted his cases down to between ten and twenty. The page shows arrangements of UFOs in the chosen cases, and given the strong likelihood that most if not all of them were 1952 cases on Dewey’s watch, they might be specifically identifiable. #6 is, for instance, almost certainly, Nash-Fortenberry. Ruppelt gives two of the cases in his book, and a third in the draft copy pre-cutting. These probably could be matched up, too. Has this document already been seen for what it is?, and has someone already identified the 17 cases? .

Jan Aldrich:

Someone should try to identify the cases from the illustrations [which is what we did above - Fran Ridge]. I would expect that one should try to fit modern ones first. Fournet had something is his briefcast call Operation Interloper. Whatever it was it represented cases that he encountered on his own and were not AF cases or were published in other sources like the African Airlines case at Mt Kilaminjaro (sp?). The case count for Operation Interloper was over 20, but Fournet’s briefcase only contain a few of them. Some of the Interloper cases were pre 1947. Fournet told Keyhoe that he should request a complete list of 1952 unknown cases from the AF, he would find best evidence there.”
