“MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD

1. At 310805 received phoncon from AFOC: MG Lane, CG, Armament and Development Test Center, Eglin AFB, Florida called and reported a UFO sighting from 0430 EST to 0600 EST [31 January 1976]. Security Policemen spotted lights from what they called a UFO near an Eglin radar site.

2. Photographs of the lights were taken. The Eglin Office of Information has made a press release on the UFO.

3. The temperature inversion analysis indicated no significant temperature inversion at Eglin AFB at that time. The only inversion present was due to radiation from the surface to 2500 feet. The Eglin surface conditions were clear skies, visibility 10-14 miles, calm winds, shallow ground fog on the runway, and a surface temperature of 44 degree F.

Several cylindrical shaped, unknown objects, some with red, white and blue lights, were photographed over Eastern New Mexico on the morning of 23 January 1976, the St. Joseph News-Press informs:

“Johnson (police officer Randy Johnson) said radar at Canon (Cannon) Air Force Base had reported seeing only one blip on its screens during the sightings. He said the air base and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at Tucumcari, N.M., had ruled out the possibility of weather balloons or aircraft.

Most of the objects seen Thursday night (22 January) and early today were spotted west of Clovis, with a few to the east and north. Similar sightings also were reported at Portales, N.M., and Plainview, Tex.

Johnson said the objects were generally spotted in groups of three in a straight line.”

“EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE – This mammoth Air Force installation sighted its first unidentified flying object Saturday [31 January 1976], an object that officials say didn’t show up either in more than 40 photographs or on Air Force radar screens.

The UFO hovered over the east end of Duke Field for almost two hours, officials said, giving off a blueish-green [sic] color and trailing a light vapor exhaust.

A military policeman was the first to report sighting the object while making his rounds about 4:35 a.m. It was visible until the first light, about 7 a.m., according to Lt. Steve Phalen of the Eglin Information Office.

An Air Force policeman said the object appeared to be the size of a C-130 cargo plane or a Boeing 707, the base said. About a half-dozen people reportedly saw the object.

Phalen said base radar operators tried to track it ‘but nothing ever visualized on our screens.’

The base called the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office and the Federal Aeronautics Administration in Crestview, but neither reported any sightings. Weather conditions at the time were hazy, Phalen said.

Phalen said, a ‘normal photographic gear’ was used in the futile picture-taking.”

Sometime before 3:55 a.m. MST. NMCC Memo: The following information was received from the Air Force Operations center at 0555 EST: ‘Two UFOs are reported near the flight line at Cannon AFB, New Mexico. Security Police observing them reported the UFOs to be 25 yards in diameter, gold or silver in color with blue light on top, hole in the middle and red light on the bottom. Air Force is checking with radar. Additionally, checking weather inversion data.’ (Actual FOIA document) Among other UFO researchers who arrived in Clovis were several members of the ‘UFO Study Group,’ which has about 40 members, mainly employees of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories ­ the facility where the atomic bomb was developed in World War II. Police said scores of sightings were reported between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday an hour before the Los Alamos observers arrived. (Las Cruces SUN NEWS, Sunday Morning, Jan. 25, 1976)

Reports of the sightings have increased steadily since the first night. Most of the reports have been of faraway objects, but Town Marshal Willie Ronquillo of Texico said he followed a silent object about 300 yards over his car. Ronquillo said the object, which had green, yellow and blue lights, sped away at a high speed to the north. Lenore Hildebrand of the UFO center in Wisconsin said Jim Epps of Valley Center, Calif., would arrive in Clovis. She said an Air Force officer from Clovis called the center Friday night and told them he ‘had a very close sighting and was able to witness a type of vehicle that did maneuver and that was unlike any type aircraft he has ever seen.’ (Las Cruces SUN News, same as above)”

This episode contains interviews with Iranian Air Force officers Abdollah Azarbarzin, Deputy Commander (in 1976) and Amir Kamyabipour, Lieutenant General (in 1976).

A U.S. reconnaissance satellite was monitoring the skies over Tehran on 19 September 1976 and recorded a movement of an unidentified flying object. Sightings presents a U.S. government document that proves this fact.

The two Iranian Air Force fighter pilots who chased the UFO were Captain Mohammad Reza Azizkhani and Lieutenant Parviz Jafari.

While working as a truck driver on the Trans Alaskan Pipeline construction north of the Prospect Creek construction camp my assistant and I were on break reading by the interior light of our truck. We were about one half mile from a group of about forty workers putting support members in the ground for the pipeline. My partner pointed out a bright light on a mountain directly across from us about 40 miles away. As we watched the light it appeared to ‘step’ down in four moves to the bottom of the mountain. It then came towards us accross the treeless tundra (light got larger than the moon which was visible), stopped, and went back to just a bit to the right of the original mountain site. The light did this three more times (about three seconds each trip) as if searching the tundra. As the light came closer the last time, I turned on the spotlight and directed it towards the light. It approached us coming to about a quarter mile away and slowly came closer. The light was then about three times the size of the moon. As it was getting closer we got scared, shut off the spotlight and sped off down the haul road. We could see the light at its present size accompanying us on our left side the two miles to the construction camp. We slid in to the warm-up shack and ran inside where there were about ten men on break. We all went outside to see what it was but it was gone. The next morning at breakfast it was found that many people had seen this ‘light’ and truckers coming up the haul road could see a large red light on the back of the craft. No description of the body of this craft was given because of the darkness. I was transferred to another camp a couple of days later but was told that many people were interviewed by Air Force representatives from Eilson (Eielson) AFB in Fairbanks. I have always wondered if this event was recorded anywhere as it made a firm believer out of me.”

The UFO incident occurred north of Prospect Creek (at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline), Alaska, on 11 January 1976, at 11:00 p.m.:
