UFO News Article:
“George Airmen Sight a Bright Orange Object”

20 June 1972
(The Sun, San Bernardino, California)

Sources: UFO Research Committee, Seattle, Washington and AFU.se

The whole article:
“Two airmen verified each otehr’s [sic] report yesterday (19 June 1972) of seeing a ‘bright orange object’ about 1 a.m. that seemed to be 375 feet in diameter as it sank behind a building southwest of their security-police beat at the base.

The airmen, Gary Corley and Randolph Wogoman, said the UFO (unidentified flying object) sighting apparently went unobserved by anyone else. They reported it to the air police, and to the Victorville Sheriff’s Office and Adelanto Police Department.

No evidence was found of the object having landed, it was reported by the base information office.”

George Air Force Base was located within the city limits, 13 kilometres (8 miles) north west of central Victorville, California.

Norwegian Local Politician Finds UFO Landing Traces, Kjølsøya, the Namsen Fjord, Norway, 11 June 1972

Ola Kr. Dahl, a local communal politician from Namsos, Norway, discovered several strange traces in the clay ground along the shore of the Namsen Fjord (Namsenfjorden) on 11 June 1972. It was while he visited his cottage on Kjølsøya (island) that he discovered the UFO traces close to land.

The imprints were triangular shaped, and they were pressed 30 to 40 centimeters into the clay ground. That means that the landed object must have been extremely heavy. Some scientists were of the opinion that the landed object must have weighed between 20 and 50 tons. The traces were found during the ebb.

According to Arve Dahl (interview in the NRK UFO TV documentary, ‘Traces in the fjord’), the son of Ola Kr. Dahl, 2 of the traces were large equilateral triangles (the sides measured 1.5 metre) and several other smaller equilateral triangles (1 metre). Arve Dahl also said that the area at Kjølsøya where the UFO landed, is 2.5 acres during the ebb, and is very visible from the air.

Another interesting occurrence that took place on the night of
9 June is probably linked to this case. That night several families in Bangsund experienced a strong interference with their TV signal before they lost their TV signal for a short while. Televerket (the Norwegian state telecommunications agency) didn’t find anything wrong with the TV transmitter when they checked it the next day. And every TV set started to function perfectly a short while after the TV signal was lost on 9 June. Bangsund is situated 1.5 kilometres from Kjølsøya.

And this story doesn’t stop there. Exactly similar UFO landing traces were found at Leirvikholmen (island) (20 imprints), Sundsøya (island), Varpneset and Sundsvatnet (lake) in the same general area.

Soil samples were sent to the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH – now NTNU) in Trondheim. NTH determined that the imprints on Sundsøya and Leirvikholmen were radioactive. Furthermore, NTH reported that the radioactive particles were foreign to them. This case represents the first time that scientists have found radioactive particles at a UFO landing site in Norway.

At each of the UFO landing sites in the Namsen Fjord, the unknown object (or objects) has (have) landed on clay ground in the fjord (and lake) and close to land. Researchers (both scientists and UFO researchers) who investigated this case admitted that they didn’t have a clue as to what it was that had landed in the Namsen Fjord in June 1972.

Everyone who researched this case was of the opinion that the object(s) which made the traces must have come through the air, because no vehicle tracks or boot imprints were found at the sites. And based on how heavy the object(s) must have been, they excluded the helicopter theory.

Below you'll find a photograph of one of the triangular shaped UFO landing traces that were found in the Namsen Fjord:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

NRK (the state broadcaster) broadcasted a UFO TV documentary in the late 1990s regarding the Namsen Fjord UFO cases throughout the years. The TV documentary was called, ‘Traces in the fjord’.

The UFO research of Arnulf Løken, a UFO-Norge representative who has researched the Namsen Fjord UFO cases, was presented in this TV documentary.

Løken recounts that, apart from the aforementioned UFO landing sites, UFO landing traces were also found at Våganvika and Hoddøya (island). According to Løken, the 3 traces at Hoddøya were very interesting. They were placed in an equilateral triangle and the distance between the traces was 9 meters. Also at this UFO landing site the traces were equilateral triangles, which were pressed into the clay ground.

Several of Norway’s leading UFO researchers are of the opinion that the Namsen Fjord area, the general area between Trondheim and Namsos – is the area in Norway which has had the most UFO sightings throughout the years. According to the NRK UFO TV report, hundreds of UFO sightings have been made in this area during the last six decades. Interesting UFO videos and photographs have also been recorded in this area.

NOTE: Kjølsøya, Sundsøya, Varpneset, Sundsvatnet and Hoddøya can be found on Google Earth.

UFO TV Documentary Excerpts:
“Spor I Fjorden” (“Traces In the Fjord”)

NRK, Oslo, Norway

The documentary is about a 1959 UFO incident (large, cylindrical shaped object) and two alleged 1972 UFO incidents which occurred in the Namdalen, Norway area (Namsen and Lyngen Fjords), near the town of Namsos.

The first part (videos No. 1-3) is about the Kjølsøya (island) UFO landing traces (traces found in the Lyngen Fjord, close to land), which were discovered on 11 June 1972. NRK presents an interview with Arve Dahl. The traces were observed by Arve Dahl, his father, Ola Kr. Dahl and his cousin.

Exactly similar UFO landing traces were found at Leirvikholmen (island) (20 imprints), Sundsøya (island), Varpneset and Sundsvatnet (lake) in the same general area.

UFO-Norge investigator Arnulf Løken says in the documentary that, apart from the aforementioned UFO landing sites, UFO landing traces were also found at Våganvika and Hoddøya (island). According to Løken, the 3 traces at Hoddøya were very interesting. They were placed in an equilateral triangle and the distance between the traces was 9 meters. Also at this UFO landing site the traces were equilateral triangles, which were pressed into the clay ground.

The second part (video No. 4) is about the April 1972 Bangsund UFO incident. NRK presents an interview with Andreas Grav. His father also sighted the large, yellow, spherical shaped UFO. The UFO observation lasted twenty seconds.

The documentary contains a photo of the Kjølsøya traces, a map of the alleged UFO landing sites and several images of newspaper articles:

UFO Case Directory (RADCAT):
“Category 9, RADAR
George AFB / Apple Valley, CA
Radar Case (BBU 1176)
May 1, 1952
George AFB, California”

Updated: 23 February 2016
(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
“Fran Ridge:
The principle witness to the phenomena had been a Lt. Colonel who was Wing Director of Personnel of the 146th Fighter-Bomber Wing headquartered at George Field so it was no wonder the case sparked an immediate reaction by the High Command. This is apparently #1 on Major Dewey Fournet’s ‘motions study’ UFOs cases as presented to the Robertson Panel in January of 1953, whereby he deduced that UFOs were guided by intelligence and the flight characteristics indicated that the intelligence was beyond ‘us’. This is a Project Blue Book unknown and later information (15 Feb 2006) seems to indicate that this might classify as a radar/visual case. (see Lt. Col. link below)

Brad Sparks:
May 1, 1952; George AFB, California (BBU 1176)
10:50 am. An Air Force officer and a group of airmen in a separate location observed a formation of five white disc-shaped objects, three in front and two behind. The trailing objects darted around in zig-zag motions. Suddenly the objects switched to a tight V-formation, made an almost 90-degree turn and sped away over the mountains. The five objects were sighted at George AFB and from a golf course 4 miles away. Observer: S/Sgt David Darbyrsira 146th Air Police Squadron sighted the 5 objects at at George AFB, at 1050 hours PDT, about one hour after a cloud from an atom blast was sighted in the direction of Las Vegas.”

NICAP.org presents U.S. government (U.S. Air Force) documents that pertain to the UFO case.

Wikipedia article: “George Air Force Base”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“George Air Force Base was a United States Air Force base located within the city limits, 8 miles northwest, of central Victorville, California, about 75 miles northeast of Los Angeles, California.

George AFB was closed pursuant to a decision by the 1988 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission at the end of the Cold War. It is now the site of the Southern California Logistics Airport.

Established by the United States Army Air Corps as an Advanced Flying School in June 1941, it was closed at the end of World War II. It was again activated as a training base by the United States Air Force with the outbreak of the Korean War in November 1950. It remained a training base throughout the Cold War and in the immediate post-Cold War period, primarily for the Tactical Air Command (TAC) and later the Air Combat Command (ACC), training USAF, NATO and other Allied pilots and weapon systems officers in front-line fighter aircraft until being closed in 1993.

Since 2009, the California Air National Guard’s 196th Reconnaissance Squadron (96 RS) has operated an MQ-1 Predator Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) training facility at the Southern California Logistics Airport.[2]”

UFO News Article:
“MULTIPLE WITNESSES REPORT
UFO LANDINGS IN ITALY AND SPAIN”

19 March 1975
(The Register, Santa Ana, California)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“At first Roberto Imolesi thought the sky object he saw was a reflection on his car’s windshield. But when one of his four passengers saw the glow, too, he stopped the vehicle.

‘I noticed a light in the distance at the center of the highway, right above the white line,’ says Imolesi, describing his alleged encounter with an unidentified flying object at Barbiano, Italy, July 8, 1974. At least six other witnesses, in addition to police officers, support Imolesi’s story.

‘I got out of the car,’ Imolesi continues, ‘and noticed that the light, yellow and dark, was at the center of a huge ‘wing,’ not very well defined in the darkness. I had the impression that it was in the form of a cap with a visor. . .’

Imolesi estimated the size of the domed disc as 45 feet in diameter.

‘After we stopped,’ he says, ‘the light rose and I began to squat and to make gestures with my hands to call attention of other passing autos. The mysterious object then made a change in position, flying in the form of a circle, returning to the point of departure.

‘I searched in vain to follow it. I met some farmers who also had observed the very same phenomenon.’

Settimio Zambrini, a resident of Barbiano, confirmed Imolesi’s account by relating a similar sighting in the area, as did several other local men. All witnesses said the light moved in the same direction, toward the mountains and the sea.

Police, alerted by callers, saw a glowing object at about 1:30 a.m., July 9—the same night.

A few hours before, police in Ravenna, Italy, also received reports of a swiftly moving mystery light, flying across the highway to Ravenna, at an altitude of about 30 feet.

On the morning of July 9, a farmer discovered strange ground markings in the area of the Imolesi sightings. The man claims that the physical traces were not visible the previous day, because he had not seen them although he had cut grass at the trace location. The markings were a large circle (25 feet in diameter, with a circular impression 2 ½ to 3 inches wide in each circle). In addition, some ‘strange and very thin powder of some sort’ was found near the rings.

Another possible landing report comes from Spain. On Jan. 2, 1975, a UFO apparently touched down on an aircraft firing range at Bardenas Reales.

According to a Madrid newspaper, ‘Informaciones,’ the sighting was made public by a Lt. Campos, a firing range staff member. But not many details are available because of tight military security pending a complete hearing on the matter.

In addition to Campos, other military personnel from the Spanish Third Air Force Region apparently also saw the object. It gave off bright, rapid flashes during the short time it was on the ground. After taking off, the object shot away and ‘immediately was lost in the sky,’ according to the Madrid newspaper.

Adding mystery to the sighting is the report that a similar object was observed in the same area in 1972. At the time the ‘strange and luminous object’ was seen, a North American Phantom jet crashed. Two crewmen parachuted to safety.

The current issue of the Mutual UFO Network journal (Skylook, published in Quincy, Ill.) describes both the Italian and Spanish reports and observes regarding the firing range incident: ‘Two guards of the Hydrographic Confederation, who witness the 1972 crash, said they observed something similar to a luminous ball ‘of the size of a balloon when it was close and of a pinhead when it was farther away,’ which gyrated in all directions over the zone where the airplanes were.’

Although at least two crashes of military aircraft in the United States appear UFO-linked, no positive proof of UFO hostility has been found (unless such information has been withheld by officials.)”

My comment:
Bardenas Reales Air-to-Ground Bombing and Gunnery Range is located about 72 kilometres (45 miles) north west of Zaragoza Air Base, according to Wikia.org.

Wikia.org article: “Zaragoza Air Base”:

Quote from the Wikia.org article:
“Zaragoza Air Base (IATA: ZAZ, ICAO: LEZG) was a NATO military airbase located near Zaragoza, Spain. It was located 16 kilometres (10 mi) west of Zaragoza, 270 km (168 mi) west of Barcelona, and 262 km (163 mi) northeast of Madrid.

It was closed as a NATO base in April 1992 after the US Air Force had been asked to move out, but continues be a major base for the Spanish Air Force. Today it also functions as Zaragoza Airport.

406th Tactical Fighter Training Wing

In February 1970 Project Creek Step called for the buildup of Zaragoza AB as a USAFE weapons training site, with actual use of the Bardenas Reales Air-to-Ground Bombing and Gunnery Range (about 72 km (40 mi) northwest of the base) began in March.

With the closure of Wheelus Air Base, Zaragoza returned to active status on 19 February 1970 with the activation of the 406th Tactical Fighter Training Group. The 406th was elevated to Wing status on 21 July 1972.

Although the 406th had no permanently assigned aircraft, the Wing provided support to all USAFE tactical aircraft which used the Zaragoza range, as well as deployed SAC and TAC units, as well as allied NATO units.

Beginning in September 1972, the 406th also operated the USAFE Tactical Forces Employment School, and in May 1976, began operating the USAFE Instructor Pilot School. Weapons training detachments were principally F-4 aircraft, although F-111s used the wing's ranges for a short period in 1974, and U.S. Navy A-7s used range facilities in June 1974. During November 1976, the 406th TFTW began full maintenance support of an SAC KC-135 detachment on a permanent basis.

On 12 September 1977, another facet was added to the wing’s training operations when it conducted the first Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT) missions with USAF and U.S. Navy aircraft.”

UFO Report:
“The 1969 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 December 2006
Updated: 3 December 2016
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“This chronology (now 6 pages) includes UFO incidents and related events for 1969. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to our documentation team: Richard Hall (the original 1969 chronology from UFOE II), William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns). Last, but not least, our thanks to Jean Waskiewicz who created the online NICAP DBase (NSID) that helped make it possible to link from the cases to the reports themselves. The latest reports come from Mike Swords.

On. December 17, 1969, Secretary of the Air Force Robert C. Seamans, Jr., announced the termination of the two decades of operations of the highly visible AF investigation of UFO’s, Project Blue Book. This was only the announcement date, not the actual termination date, but the AF release was worded in such a way as to suggest immediate termination of BB. In fact BB did not terminate until Jan. 30, 1970, at 3:30 p.m. EST, as NICAP found out and published in the May 1970 UFO Investigator (p. 3a).

In the last year of its official existence, Blue Book received 146 UFO reports of which only one received the unidentified classification. For the 22 years that the Air Force investigated UFO’s it received nearly 15,000 reports of which some 587 were classified as unidentified. (Air Force press releases listed the total number of 701 unidentified in the statistical summaries of yearly totals. But today only about 587 are listed by UFO sighting date and location in the declassified monthly indexes.) Due to diligent research, the number of ‘unknowns’ has doubled from that 701 figure to more than 1,600 in Brad Sparks’ revised catalog, and may reach as high as possibly 3,000 to 5,000, based on estimates of the late Dr. James McDonald and Sparks.

Towards the end the BB files received fewer and fewer military cases. The Air Force’s position was that UFO’s were no longer seen by the military simply because they were trained observers who cannot be fooled by such things. Historically, however, that was not true and did not explain why so many military observers in the past saw and even instrument-tracked UFO’s. In reality, the trend in the BB files reflected the changes in UFO reporting channels. The Air Force had started shifting military reporting of UFO’s into operational reporting channels such as those set up under AF Manual 55-11 of 1965 (now AF Instruction 10-206), and many classified regulations, which bypassed BB.

All seemed dead on the UFO front, but major events were just a few years away. The UFO debate was rapidly dying out in 1969 in the wake of the Condon Report and the closure of BB. NICAP and APRO catastrophically lost members, down from roughly 14,000 for NICAP and 8,000 for APRO to just a few thousand.

Francis Ridge
NICAP Site Coordinator

June 5, 1969; St. Louis, MO
4:00 p.m. This radar/visual was ‘written off’ as a meteor and observed by three air crews. Four dart-shaped objects witnessed by American Airlines Flight 112,  a 707 heading east at 39,000 feet, a United Airlines flight eight miles to the rear at 37,000 feet, and a National Guard jet four miles further at 41,000 feet. Objects were tracked on FAA radar at St. Louis. The pilot of the National Guard plane later claimed the UFO formation had approached his craft almost ‘directly ahead’ before altering its course abruptly and ascending quickly at the last moment. Two radar paints confirmed. (NICAP UFOI Feb 1972)”
