The Russian Navy Releases Its UFO Files

The Russian Navy ran a special UFO research group. This group’s UFO files, which date back to Soviet times, reveal that many crews on board Navy submarine and surface ships have had close encounters with possible UFOs. Deputy Navy Commander Admiral Nikolay Smirnov was the head of the UFO research group.

UFO Report:
“The 1983 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 February 2008

Quote from the UFO report:
“This is currently a 5-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1983. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1983 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]. You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Feb. 19, 1983; Swansea, Glamorgan, South Wales
Daytime. Up to 200 people observed a huge triangular shaped UFO pass overhead in various places along the South Wales coast. They included a class of schoolchildren and a football team. In Swansea two detectives, DS Mike Troake and DC Gethen Humphreys saw the object glide overhead in total silence. DS Troake said, ‘I’m used to seeing aircraft in the sky but this was massive-much bigger than a plane. There was a large main cluster of lights at the front shaped a bit like a Zeppelin followed by a triangular group of lights. They moved gracefully across the sky about 1000 feet up.’ Fearful of ridicule neither officer reported the incident to their colleagues. March 10, 1983; Ventilla, Bolivia
A diesel train of 14 cars was stalled by a huge UFO. First seen as an enormous, blinding cloud of light over the city, it then flew toward the train changing color from bright white to glowing orange. Seventy passengers on board were awakened and screamed in terror. A yellow ray of light struck the locomotive and stalled the engine. Engineer Sixto Churaz said that ‘I tried to start up the engine, but it was dead. Fifteen minutes later the engine suddenly came to life again as the object began to move away from the-train.’ The locomotive had just been through an overhaul and was found to be in perfect condition. Experts from the University of Qruro, railroad officials, and local police confirmed that a UFO had paralyzed the train and that it was not a mechanical breakdown. On three previous nights, nearby villagers being harassed by UFOs tried to frighten them off with gunfire. This episode introduces the extreme challenging element of the engine starting by itself as the UFO departed, a circumstance that has been reported on 27 other occasions for spark-ignited engines. (McCampbell).

March 24, 1983; Happy Camp, CA
4:45 PM. California Highway Patrol officer Harold R. Chandler was on routine patrol near the Northern California border with Oregon when he spotted a dark, circular object, flat with no protuberances, flying overhead across his path. ‘I was looking up at the bottom of the object, It was about 800+ feet above me. [Its] speed was slow, maybe 80-100 m.p.h. ....The craft stood out clearly against the sky and appeared dark gray.’ (Investigation by Paul Cerny; MUFON report form.)

March 27, 1983; 50 nautical miles north of Gorky, Russia
Evening. Russian Air Traffic Controllers had radar-visual reports of a steel-gray colored UFO, the shape of a cigar and the size of an airliner, in view and on their screens for 40 minutes. It was first picked up 50 nautical miles north of Gorky, Russia and vanished about 25 nautical miles from the city. June 23, 1983; North Sea of Japan
12:10 p.m. They (the Navy ship) were travelling in formation with the aircraft carrier USS Midway and its battle group which consisted with approximately 30 ships. At this point in time the USS Midway radioed them and other ships in the battle group that they were tracking 5 unknown objects moving in a V formation from the coast of Russia and the USS Midway just picked them up on their air search radar. 5:10 PM. An F-5E interceptor was scrambled by the Brazilian Air Force as many witnesses in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil reported a silvery spot maneuvering over city. The official explanation was balloon, but UFO researchers in Brazil don’t accept it as plausible. (Source: Irene Granchi, APRO Bulletin, July 1984, p. 1).

Dec. 12, 1983; Byron, IL
A triangular flying object was sighted by three men. It moved erratically and made no sound. It had blinking red and white lights. Its erratic path was detected on FAA radar at the Greater Rockford, Illinois airport. (Source: APRO Bulletin, September 1984, p. 8).”

ABC Primetime Reports On
UFOs In the Soviet Union

1994
(ABC News, New York City, New York)

Source: Chris Chilli (YouTube channel)

ABC presents interviews with several Soviet military officials, including retired Soviet Air Force Colonel Boris Sokolov.

On 4 October 1982, a huge UFO hovered over the ballistic missile base near Byelokoroviche, Ukraine. It looked like a flying saucer, according to a Lieutenant Colonel. While the UFO hovered over the ICBMs – the missiles were preparing for launching, according to Sokolov. For 15 seconds – the Soviet military had no control over the ICBM’s, ABC reports.

On 23 February 1988, a UFO was registered on radar near the Kapustin Yar air base (located in Astrakhan Oblast) – and the entire Soviet anti-ballistic radar grid did go on alert. Jet fighters were sent aloft – and several times, fighter pilots were ordered to fire on the unknown object. Each time a pilot was ready to fire – the target had disappeared. Finally, the UFO went away.

“The 1989 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 August 2008

Bob Gribble’s entries are those filed with the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington, now operated by Peter Davenport. Trace cases are now being entered with the help of Ted Phillips, Center for Physical Trace Research and retrofitted into previous chronologies as time permits. Since I was Indiana State Director (MUFON) at that time, many of our Indiana cases are listed here.

Of possible interest, the MADAR Project (which I headed for 20 years) had 5 anomalistic EM readings which are listed chronologically here.

7:45 PM. A security guard and an air traffic controller at Air Force Facility 42 in Palmdale, California witnessed a silver flying object and three orb-shaped UFOs during testing of the B1-B bomber. There was also a rumor of an abduction occurring on this date at the same facility. (Source: MUFON UFO Journal, November 1990).

7:00 AM. A Canadian Airlines International crew watched a dark grey or black ovoid object, estimated to be about 2 meters in length, make complex maneuvers in the sky not far from St. John’s, Newfoundland for three minutes. (Source: Chris Rutkowski, International UFO Reporter, July 1990, p. 10).

July 22, 1989; Trenton, ME
3:30 PM. Over Blue Hill Bay -- At 3:30 p.m. Randy Rhodes, a police dispatcher for the City of Ellsworth, and Bill Reiff, an attorney, took off in a Beechcraft Bonanza from the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. At around 3:45 p.m. they spotted a huge metallic disc, shining like polished aluminum, at the 9 o'clock position. It was at the same altitude as their plane--approximately 5100-5200 feet. The object suddenly moved dead ahead to the 12 o'clock position and it took on a reddish or rose color. Not very enthusiastic about continuing on with this thing in front of them, they turned back for the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. The Aerial Direction Finder was working at the time but the DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) was not receiving. It had never before given them a problem, and 3-4 minutes after the object disappeared the DME came back on. When they landed they discovered that there had been power surges and outages on the ground, and they recalled that when they last observed the object it was headed in the direction of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power plant in Wiscasset. However, a spokesman for the Bangor HydroElectric Company later reported that three limbs falling over a transmission line when a resident cut down a tree caused the outage. July 28, 1989; Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia
11:20 PM. A domed disc-shaped object was seen over a high security rocket weapons depot in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia, by four military witnesses, including the two main witnesses named Voloshin and Tishchayev. The UFO glowed a phosphorescent green. It circled the depot three times, accelerated and then stopped abruptly. It shot away when a Soviet fighter jet appeared. “Airmen Report Flying Saucers
In Sky Near Russian Islands
21 January 1953 (The Modesto Bee, California)

U.S. Air Force fighter pilots and ground personnel sighted UFOs over Northern Hokkaido, Japan on 29 December 1952, according to the article:

The UFOs were also tracked on radar.

Quote from the article:
“Mysterious flying objects – ‘rotating clusters of red, white and green lights’ – have been reported over northern Japan by American airmen flying patrol close to Russia’s Kurile (or Kuril) Islands and Sakhalin.

Air force intelligence reports said today: ‘There are too many indications of the presence of something … to be considered an observation of nothing.’

Intelligence officers discounted the possibility the sighted objects were mere ‘reflections of light.’ ”

And on 9 January 1953, two U.S. Air Force fighter pilots sighted a rotating UFO cluster. These UFOs were also tracked on radar.
