“1979 MUTILATIONS 

NEW MEXICO

Taos County - On January 12, a 5-year-old heifer was discovered near Ranchitos - less that a quarter-mile from the site of a controversial UFO sighting and residue-dropping in July of 1978.

Santa Fe County - At the Santa Clara Pueblo, near Los Alamos, AMP Director David Perkins visited the office of the Tribal Police on Friday, May 11th. He inspected their logbook which cited numerous reports of ‘unidentified aircraft’ in Nov. and Dec., 1978. That night, a mutilation occurred on Santa Clara land and, though tribal authorities tried to keep the matter quiet, Gail Olson of the RIO GRANDE SUN was tipped off about it.

David Perkins reports that a light meter belonging to a photographer would not work at the site, but functioned perfectly a mile away. The brakes went out on the investigators• car as they drove from the scene. At that time [13 and 14 May 1979], an unmarked, twin-engined airplane circled low over the departing car three times. Additionally, Perkins uncovered a report of a large UFO seen in Santa Clara Canyon by two tribal policemen in early April, 1979. . Box 21: Warren, Michigan 48090 – $8.00 (includes postage, handling). ---------------------- In this volume, where the language of ufology is concerned, no stone is left un-termed. Somerville scattershoots through virtually every facet of UFO research. He includes material on mutilations and Project Stigma, while cautioning that not everyone is convinced that mutilations occur, much less that they are linked to UFOs. The author objectively presents arguments for and against the reality of mutes and the UFO connection. The author directs his book to those ‘who do not have the time or inclination to follow the many developments in Ufology, but would like to obtain a basic understanding of the subject’. Somerville's research has been extensive and intensive. UFO TERMS breaks no new speculative ground, but it will prove useful to the armchair browser as well as to the serious researcher desiring to ‘bone up’ on basic ufological concepts. The encyclopedia array of data reminds one of the richness, complexity and confusion inherent in our groping for understanding of the UFO phenomenon and all its tangential aspects. There is a lot of information in the book of potential interest to mutilation researchers - though not necessarily identified as such. UFO TERMS is especially recommended for the beginner~ but there is no reason why veteran researchers should not plan to include it in their library.”

July 5, 1979 - Gulf of Alaska

2:45 a.m. They were halibut fishing south of Seward, Alaska. A super bright object came down through the clouds and became stationary close to the water. At the same time a target appeared on their radar at about two miles distant, a really strong target. All of a sudden the radar heading was knocked off of its setting and one of the crew had to reset it. It was a bright glowing object with a bowl-like shape which faded out and simultaneously disappeared from the radar screen, then reappeared visually and on radar. The radar heading was knocked off when the object approached the boat. The object was only a couple of feet off the water. The incident lasted for about five minutes and the radar was picking up a strong signal.”

UFO News Article:
“Second UFO in four days filmed
by TV cameras in New Zealand”,
4 January 1979 (Lodi News-Sentinel, California)

A New Zealand TV crew filmed a UFO near the mouth of the Clarence River, in the north east corner of New Zealand’s South Island on 3 January 1979, according to this news article:

Furthermore, the UFO was sighted by six police officers in a town 500 miles from the TV cameras.

This was the second UFO incident within four days that involved a New Zealand TV crew. The first case, the famous Quentin Fogarty UFO TV report, occurred on 30/31 December 1978.

UFO News Article: “Thousands seek out artifact from Warren’s ’79 UFO”

The Daily News reports about the Marshall County (Minnesota) Historical Society Museum’s top attraction, the patrol car from what’s commonly known as the “Warren UFO Encounter” of 1979:

Marshall County Deputy Sheriff Val Johnson encountered a small UFO which damaged his car on 27 August 1979, at around 2:00 a.m.

The article contains an interview with Dennis Brekke, the county sheriff in 1979. The incident details baffled investigators, including Honeywell scientists, according to Brekke.

“There is another report Wednesday (30 July 1952) of mysterious flying objects in Iowa skies, this time from Cherokee county.

Six persons reported seeing a number of disc-shaped silver objects speeding high above a farm near Larrabee. The witnesses reported the discs appeared to hover in the sky at times and remained in sight more than an hour before heading northward out of sight.”

This is a newspaper article regarding the famous Quentin Fogarty UFO report (with UFO footage) that was recorded on board an Argosy freight airplane on 30/31 December 1978. The incident took place near Kaikoura, New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Air Force put A-4 Skyhawk airplane pilots on standby alert as a result of Quentin Fogarty’s UFO report, according to Associated Press.

Quote from the newspaper article:
“We now have recorded sightings by six pilots on three aircraft over 10 days and a host of radar sightings,” said a Wellington air traffic controller, who identified himself as A. Causer. “There is obviously some strange phenomenon and it needs to be investigated.”

Many UFO sceptics/debunkers came forward with the theory that the self-luminous, unknown objects were fishing trawlers. But Wellington Air Traffic Control Centre controllers saw on the radar scope that the unknown objects flew at the same altitude as the airplane. And Fogarty said that the UFOs flew level with and above the airplane at times:
