Wikipedia article: “Pantex Plant”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The Pantex Plant is the primary United States nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility that aims to maintain the safety, security and reliability of the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile.[1][2] The facility is located on a 16,000-acre (25 sq mi; 65 km2) site 17 miles (27 km) northeast of Amarillo, in Carson County, Texas in the Panhandle of Texas. The plant is managed and operated for the United States Department of Energy by Consolidated Nuclear Security and Sandia National Laboratories. Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS) is composed of member companies Bechtel National, Inc., Leidos, Inc., Orbital ATK, Inc, and SOC LLC, with Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. as a teaming subcontractor.[3] CNS also operates the Y-12 National Security Complex.[3]

As a major national security site, the plant and its grounds are strictly controlled and off-limits to all civilians, and the airspace above and around the plant is prohibited to civilian air traffic by the FAA as Prohibited Area P-47.

History

Bunkers at Pantex used for temporary staging of nuclear weapons.
The Pantex Plant was originally constructed as a conventional bomb plant for the United States Army Air Force during the early days of World War II. The Pantex Ordnance Plant was authorized February 24, 1942. Construction was completed on November 15, 1942 and workers from all over the U.S. flocked to Amarillo for jobs.

Pantex was abruptly deactivated when the war ended and remained vacant until 1949, when Texas Technological College in Lubbock (now Texas Tech University) purchased the site for $1.[4] Texas Tech used the land for experimental cattle-feeding operations.

In 1951, at the request of the Atomic Energy Commission (now the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)), the Army exercised a recapture clause in the sale contract and reclaimed the main plant and 10,000 acres (40 km2) of surrounding land for use as a nuclear weapons production facility. The Atomic Energy Commission refurbished and expanded the plant at a cost of $25 million. The remaining 6,000 acres (24 km2) of the original site were leased from Texas Tech in 1989.

The Pantex Plant was operated by Procter & Gamble from 1951 to 1956, Mason & Hanger from 1956 to 2001, and Babcock & Wilcox from 2001 to 2014.[5]

The plant employed about 3,600 people in 2010 and had a budget of $600 million for fiscal year 2010.[6]”

UFO Report (Cases) (E-mail):
”Subject: Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant/
Triangle UFO reports nearby”

By Daniel Wilson, 2 September 2004
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the e-mail:
“HERE IS ANOTHER CASE OF A TROUBLED NUCLEAR POWER PLANT AND TRIANGLE-SHAPED UFOS BEING REPORTED NEARBY.”

My comment:
In this e-mail, Daniel Wilson presents seven NUFORC UFO case reports. The North Carolina UFO incidents occurred on 23 June 1998, 12 August 1999, 22 November 2000, 1 January 2002, 2 August 2002, 21 November 2002, 10 July 2003.

He also presents a news article (“Problems mount at Shearon Harris”) that reports on the 2003 Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant emergency shutdowns.

The Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant is located in New Hill, North Carolina.

Wikipedia article: “Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant with a single Westinghouse designed pressurized-water nuclear reactor operated by Duke Energy. It was named in honor of W. Shearon Harris, former president of Carolina Power & Light (predecessor of Progress Energy Inc.).[2] Located in New Hill, North Carolina, in the United States, about 20 miles (30 km) southwest of Raleigh, it generates 900 MWe, has a 523-foot (160 m) natural draft cooling tower, and uses Harris Lake for cooling. The reactor achieved criticality in January 1987 and began providing power commercially on May 2 of that year.

The Shearon Harris site was originally designed for four reactors, but cost and weakening demand despite a growing population resulted in three of the reactors being canceled. The final cost approached $3.9B, including safety upgrades mandated after the Three Mile Island accident.

On November 16, 2006, the operator applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a renewal and extension of the plant's operating license.[3] The NRC granted the renewal on December 17, 2008, extending the license from forty years to sixty.[4]”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“Subject: FLYING DISKS REPORTEDLY SEEN
IN VICINITY OF SAVANNAH RIVER PLANT ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION”

15 May 1952
(Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, D.C.)

                Department of the Air Force
                The Pentagon
                Washington 25, D. C.

From:    John Edgar Hoover, Director
                Federal Bureau of Investigation

The Savannah Office of this Bureau has been informed that at approximately 10:45 p. m., May 10, 1952, four employees of the DuPont Company employed in the Savannah River Plant near Ellenton, South Carolina saw four disk shaped objects approaching ‘the four hundred area’ from the south which disappeared in a northerly direction. At approximately 11:10 p. m. A similar object was seen by these employees approaching from the northeast and disappearing in a southwesterly direction.  A similar object was also sighted about 11:15 p. m. traveling from south to north by the same employees.

The disks were described by the above-mentioned employees as being approximately fifteen inches in diameter and yellow to gold in color. All of the objects were allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and at a high altitude without any noise. The disk shaped object referred to above which approached ‘the four hundred area’ from a northeasterly direction was reportedly traveling at such a low altitude it had to rise to pass over some tall tanks which are in ‘the four hundred area.’ The employee referred to above advised the objects were weaving from left to right but seemed to hold a general course. According to these persons because of the speed at which the objects were traveling they were only visible for a few seconds.

The above data, which was previous furnished to your office through this Bureau’s liaison representative, is being furnished for your information and any action you desire to take in this matter. No investigation is being conducted by this Bureau.

UFO News Article:
“ ‘Flying Saucer’ Reported
At Site of H-Bomb Plant”

3 December 1950
(Coshocton Tribune, Ohio)

Source: theufochronicles.com

Quote from the article:
“Were flying saucers spying on the proposed site of the nation’s
first hydrogen plant (Savannah River Site) Friday night
(1 December 1950)?

Four persons told today of seeing a strange, brilliantly-lighted object in the sky about 10:45 p.m. It dipped up and down and flashed back and forth for about 10 minutes before it flew out of sight, one eye-witness said.

This town is in the midst of the east tract which the atomic energy commission has selected for the site of the multi-million dollar
H-bomb plant which will be under construction by early 1951.

The pastor (R. D. Parkinson) said Ralph Golphin Dunbar, a neighbor, first spotted the ‘saucer’ and called him outside to look at it. Iradell McCarthy of Aiden, S.C., a dinner guest, and his 12-year-old daughter, Evelon, came along.

According to Dunbar, ‘it looked like a great, big white star with red lights and moved around back and forth and up and down’ over the town (Ellenton, S.C.).”

Many of Ellenton’s residents relocated to New Ellenton (S.C.) (located 13 kilometres (8 miles) to the north) after having to abandon the town.
