UFO News Article:
“ ‘FLYING SAUCERS’ REPORTED SEEN
OVER VILLAGE, PLUNGING INTO SENECA”

27 August 1952
(Express, Watkins Glen, New York)

Source: waterufo.net (the late Carl W. Feindt)

The whole article:
“Report of two ‘flying saucers’ over the village was made by Mrs. Marion Granston of 315 N. Glen Ave., Monday morning.

She said that the two saucers were seen at 9:30 just over the ‘top of our elm tree.’

‘They were like big silver balls gliding through the air,’ she added. ‘They were very plain.’

The two ‘balls’ disappeared over Seneca Lake after proceeding eastward, the woman reported.

The woman added that neighborhood children could also plainly see the ‘saucers.’ She identified them as William, Ronald, and Robert Pierce, who lived nearby. They called Mrs. William Pierce, Sr., but she came out too late to see the discs.

The woman, who reported the occurrence to newsmen, was told to call Civil Defense headquarters at the office of Atty. Lafayette Argetsinger, Jr.

Another ‘flying saucer’ was reported to have plunged into Seneca Lake Monday morning [which was the 25th] [25 August 1952].

The incident was reported by three workmen who said the object fell into the lake about 150 feet offshore near Glen Eldridge on the east side of the lake about five miles from the village. They said it splashed water about 8 or 10 feet into the air.

The men, all carpenters, were Ray Andrew, Alfred Sullivan, and Clayton Crout. They told state police that while working near the lake, they saw a ‘bright object like a sheet of steel come through the air.’

‘Suddenly it crashed into the lake,’ they said, ‘and splashed water 8 to 10 feet high.’ In the Tompkins County village of Trumansburg, due northeast of here, several persons reported that they saw five jet planes pursuing a flying saucer.

U.S. Air Force officials at Hancock Field, Syracuse, said that jet planes from the base of the 32nd Air Division Defense here were on maneuvers in the Schuyler County area of Watkins Glen but said they did not know they were chasing flying saucers.

Air Force officials said they would investigate the Seneca Lake
incident. Air spotters in the Schuyler area said they did not sight
anything unusual in the area during the day. This is the first time
that flying saucers have been reported in Schuyler County.”

UFO news article:
“3 Carpenters ‘See’ Saucer Dive into Lake”

27 August 1952
(The Herald, Sharon, Pennsylvania)

Source: waterufo.net (the late Carl W. Feindt)

The whole article:
“Three carpenters yesterday swore they saw a flying saucer dive into Seneca Lake at Watkins Glen. The carpenters said the saucer flashed ‘like a bright sheet of silver’ across the horizon and then took a nosedive into the lake, kicking up a 10-foot splash. But state police said as far as they are concerned, they are not going to investigate. They pointed out that the lake is 200 feet deep in some places, and they do not intend to waste their time with any grappling operations.”

Wikipedia article: “Seneca Lake (New York)”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“Seneca Lake is the largest of the glacial Finger Lakes of the U.S. state of New York, and the deepest lake entirely within the state. It is promoted as being the lake trout capital of the world, and is host of the National Lake Trout Derby. Because of its depth and relative ease of access, the US Navy uses Seneca Lake to perform test and evaluation of equipment ranging from single element transducers to complex sonar arrays and systems.”

UFO News Article:
“Mystery Object Seen Over Korea”

15 August 1952
(The Oregonian, Portland, Oregon)

Source: ufonewspaper.blogspot.com

The whole article:
“WITH THE 1ST MARINE DIVISION, Korea, Aug. 15 (AP)—
Combat marines are now seeing those round things in the sky.

The marine division’s public information office Friday [15 August 1952] related this frontline ‘flying saucer’ story:

Lt. Paul C. Mahoney of Brooklyn, N. Y., was leading a night patrol into Chinese territory. One marine and then another noticed a strange looking object east of the moon at about 10,000 feet. It was round and very thin, the marines said. It was a light color but not shiny.

The object remained stationary for a few moments, then moved sharply and was still again. The second time it moved, the patrol lost sight of it.”

UFO News Article:
“Flying Discs Cavort Over Mojave Desert”

3 August 1952
(Daily Boston Globe, Massachusetts)

Source: ufonewspaper.blogspot.com

The whole article:
“Now it’s flying saucers over the Mojave Desert.

The sheriff’s office here [Lancaster, California] says more than half a dozen persons reported sighting two round reddish-white lights moving in the sky shortly before midnight last night [2 August 1952?].

Sgt I. L. McCaleb said deputies T. M. Morrissey and W. D. Malette spotted them first.

‘They appeared over the horizon to the West,’ McCaleb said the deputies told him. ‘At first they settled toward the earth, then hovered. Finally, while one stayed motionless, the other took off in a southerly direction, passing behind a hill.

‘It reappeared on the other side and finally disappeared. The other then began swinging like a pendulum. It finally dropped below the horizon.’

McCaleb said CAA men in an airport tower at Palmdale, and others also reported the lights.”

UFO Case Directory (RADCAT):
“Gun Camera R/V Case
Aug. 1, 1952
Bellefontaine, Ohio”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
“Francis Ridge:
This report is case #20, on the official clearance list. of 41 formerly classified Air Technical Intelligence UFO reports cleared for Maj. Donald E. Keyhoe by Albert M. Chop, Air Force Press Desk. In Donald Keyhoe’s book, ‘Flying Saucers From Outer Space’, the account on page 107 mentions that at 10:51 a.m. (Ohio time), August 1, 1952, radarmen at a GCI post had spotted a fast-moving UFO. The Intelligence report included the ATIC analysis. Later I found an unclassified copy. And thanks to William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Dan Wilson (BB Archive Researcher), we have further documentation. This case illustrates the accuracy of some of the earlier books, and also shows that the Air Force actually listed this case as an Unknown. Some strange things were going on in the region that day. See my report below.

Brad Sparks:
Aug. 1, 1952; Nr. Troy [radar at Bellefontaine], Ohio (BBU)
10:51-11:13 a.m. (EST). USAF ADC radar site 664th AC&W Sq at Bellefontaine atop Campbell Hill at 1549 ft elevation (40°22'20" N, 83°43'10" W). tracked target 20 miles NNW of Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, traveling 400-450 knots (500 mph) on a heading of 240° about WSW and vectored 2 F-86's piloted by Major James B. Smith and Lt. Donald J. Hemer, located 10 miles SW of the UFO. Jets made visual contact in 4 mins at 10:55, climbed to 48,000 ft, fell off, climbed again to 48,000 ft and Smith got a weak return on his radar gun sight, shot gun camera film of the 24-40 ft white round object or silver-colored sphere or disc estimated at 60,000-70,000 ft and filmed by gun camera a white round object [which then took off at high speed ?]. F-86s broke off intercept at about 11:05 or 11:13 a.m., apparently about 100 miles WSW of Dayton. Film reportedly shows UFO image in the upper right of the frames with noticeable motion to the lower left. 22 mins. (BB Rpt 8; cf. Ruppelt pp. 174-6; Keyhoe 1953 p. 107)”

The whole article:
“Those ‘Flying Saucers’ have popped up in Korea.

A Canadian destroyer recently reported sighting two such objects and recorded them on its radar, it was learned here today.

A Navy report said 40 officers and crew members of the destroyer Crusader saw the ‘saucers’ the night of July 10 [1952]. All had the familiar qualities of the puzzling flying discs.

The report, addressed to the commanders of the Far East naval forces and the Fifth Air Force, said the ship’s radar registered ‘fixes’ on the objects. It placed them two miles high and seven miles away.

The report said the objects disappeared before dawn.”
