UFO Case Directory (RADCAT):
“Gun Camera R/V Case
Aug. 1, 1952
Bellefontaine, Ohio”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
Francis Ridge:
This report is case #20, on the official clearance list. of 41 formerly classified Air Technical Intelligence UFO reports cleared for Maj. Donald E. Keyhoe by Albert M. Chop, Air Force Press Desk. In Donald Keyhoe’s book, ‘Flying Saucers From Outer Space’, the account on page 107 mentions that at 10:51 a.m. (Ohio time), August 1, 1952, radarmen at a GCI post had spotted a fast-moving UFO. The Intelligence report included the ATIC analysis. Later I found an unclassified copy. And thanks to William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Dan Wilson (BB Archive Researcher), we have further documentation. This case illustrates the accuracy of some of the earlier books, and also shows that the Air Force actually listed this case as an Unknown. Some strange things were going on in the region that day. See my report below.

Brad Sparks:
Aug. 1, 1952; Nr. Troy [radar at Bellefontaine], Ohio (BBU)
10:51-11:13 a.m. (EST). USAF ADC radar site 664th AC&W Sq at Bellefontaine atop Campbell Hill at 1549 ft elevation (40°22'20" N, 83°43'10" W). tracked target 20 miles NNW of Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, traveling 400-450 knots (500 mph) on a heading of 240° about WSW and vectored 2 F-86's piloted by Major James B. Smith and Lt. Donald J. Hemer, located 10 miles SW of the UFO. Jets made visual contact in 4 mins at 10:55, climbed to 48,000 ft, fell off, climbed again to 48,000 ft and Smith got a weak return on his radar gun sight, shot gun camera film of the 24-40 ft white round object or silver-colored sphere or disc estimated at 60,000-70,000 ft and filmed by gun camera a white round object [which then took off at high speed ?]. F-86s broke off intercept at about 11:05 or 11:13 a.m., apparently about 100 miles WSW of Dayton. Film reportedly shows UFO image in the upper right of the frames with noticeable motion to the lower left. 22 mins. (BB Rpt 8; cf. Ruppelt pp. 174-6; Keyhoe 1953 p. 107)”

UFO Book Excerpt:
“Gun-camera Shots Of UFO Over Ohio
Bellefontaine, Ohio
August 1, 1952”

By Major Donald E. Keyhoe
(Flying Saucers From Outer Space (Page 107))

Source: NICAP.org

Keyhoe:
......the strange object was seen from the ground by several civilians near Bellefontaine. It appeared to be round, with a shiny, metallic gleam.

When the blips came on the scope, two F-86 jets were about ten miles from the UFO, on a GCI problem. The two pilots, Major James B. Smith and Lieutenant Donald J. Hemer, were immediately vectored toward the UFO.

As Smith and Hemer reached 30,000 feet, they saw a bright, round, glowing object maneuvering above them. To make certain it was not a ground reflection, both pilots changed course, circled, climbed, to view it from different angles. The UFO’s appearance did not change. Positive it was a solid object, both pilots switched on their gun-cameras and climbed at full power.

At 40,000 feet the mysterious device was still above them. Pulling up at a sharp angle, Major Smith tried to get a picture. But his F-86 stalled and fell off. When Hemer nosed up for a camera shot, the same thing happened.

Then Major Smith, climbing again to 40,000 feet made a second attempt. This time he was successful, and he clicked off several feet of film before the plane stalled.

As he began the camera run, Smith’s radar gunsight had caught the UFO for a moment. (Hemer’s radar sight was ‘caged’ - inoperative - so he saw no radar blips.) From the range of his radar set, Major Smith knew the unknown device must be between 12,000 and 20,000 feet above him to cause such a weak blip.

To confirm his estimate he quickly checked with his telescopic gunsight and found it just covered the UFO. But before he could get a better look, the object quickly accelerated, disappearing at a tremendous speed. Later, using the radar and optical sight data, Smith carefully calculated the UFO’s size. If it had been 12,000 feet above him, then it was about 24 feet in diameter. If it was at 20,000 feet, its diameter was not less than 40 feet.”

The UFO incident occurred near Troy, Ohio (radar at Bellefontaine), according to NICAP.org (nicap.org).

UFO Case Directory:
“Category 11, SIGHTINGS FROM AIRCRAFT
Three F-84 Pilots Encounter Manta-Ray,
Gun Camera Shots
March 3, 1953
Luke AFB, Phoenix, Ariz; Nr. Blyth, California”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
Fran Ridge:
I had read about this SECRET case in Ruppelt's book, but never gave it too much thought until I found the 11-page paper by Barry Greenwood. Our thanks to Barry for mailing me a copy so I could scan it; and to Wendy Connors for the great pictures. I supplied the Project Book Book Status Report #11 pages and then dan Wilson found 38 footnotes.com documents. This is also a Category 8 (photo) case besides being a Cat 11 (Sightings From Aircraft), and is double-listed on the Global Sighting Information Database on the NICAP site. This one even includes two videos from the gun camera shots.

Brad Sparks:
March 3, 1953; (130 miles W. of Luke AFB, Phoenix, Arizona), nr. Blyth, California (BBU)
1:25-1:32 p.m. (MST). USAF Capt. Roderick D. Thompson, 3600th Fighter Training Group, Luke AFB, instructor pilot in an F-84 at 25,000 ft 500 mph TAS heading 305° Mag spotted 300-500 ft wide aircraft leaving contrail crossing his path at 2 [10?] o'clock high position from left to right at about 35,000 to 45,000 ft and about 400 mph TAS, visible only by condensation vapor emitted from manta-ray shape flat surface. Student pilots of two F-84’s, Lt. Jack E. Brasher and Lt. Thomas W. Hale, saw the object but did not follow the pursuit. When Thompson turned (right?) to pursue object climbing at full power at about 560 mph, object made slight dipping turn to NW and began climbing at about 20° angle and object appeared to be very thin, and immediately began to form a heavy condensation trail behind it for roughly 1,000 ft and split in two for about 1,000 ft but which ended abruptly and moved with the object, the trail not being left behind. Thompson reached 30,000 ft and closed to within roughly 5-10 miles of object to a point over Colorado River N of Parker Dam, about 70 miles N of Blythe, when he took 151 frames or about 30 ft [6 ft?] of gun camera film of object, 16 mm N-9 camera, apparently at 16 fps 1/40 sec exposure setting. (BB Rpt 11; NICAP website; McDonald list; Ruppelt pp. 229-230; FUFOR Index)”

UFO Case Directory (RADCAT):
“Category 9, RADAR
The Rapid City / Ellsworth AFB Incident (RV)
August 5, 1953
East of Rapid City, SD”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
Francis Ridge:
There was a date discrepancy on this case. Ruppelt said it was the 12th and subsequently NICAP listed that date in The UFO Evidence. Project Blue Book, which didn’t list this as an ‘Unknown,’ showed it clearly as August 5, 6, and the documents (see below) show that this case as ‘unsolved.’ This incident always impressed me, and apparently it impressed a lot of others, too. For the die-hard skeptics at Project Blue Book this was the one they had always asked for. Here was a good UFO sighting. ‘This was an unknown, one of the best,’ a ground witnessed visual, with a ground radar tracking, and the pursuit of the object by a jet interceptor that also locked on with its radar, with all the maneuvers independently verified. The UFO was playing a cat & mouse game with an F-84 ‘Thunderjet,’  the first USAF jet fighter able to carry a tactical atomic weapon. Major Lawrence Tacker not only confirmed this case, but he wrote one NICAP member and told him the Air Force had gun-camera photos of the object and radarscope photos. (FSTS,243). Ellsworth AFB is located about 12 miles from Rapid City, and in 1947, the base hosted the 28th Bombardment Wing (BMW), flying the B-29. In July 1949, the 28th began conversion to the gigantic B-36 bomber. Ellsworth was one of the original five Air Force Operational Storage Sites for nuclear weapons, and first received its atomic bombs in 1952.

Joel Carpenter:
I've been checking on the model of F-84 assigned to SAC, and it turns out that the F-84G was the one based at Rapid City at the time. This was a tactical-nuclear-capable day fighter-bomber with straight wings and gun ranging radar.

NICAP.org presents U.S. government (U.S. Air Force) documents that pertain to the UFO case.

UFO Magazine Article:
“What Radar Tells About Flying Saucers”
by Donald E. Keyhoe, 1952
(TRUE Magazine, U.S.A.)
(NICAP.org)

A large part of the article focuses on the July 1952 Washington, D.C. UFO incidents:

Quote from the article:
“In a new investigation of the flying saucer, TRUE Magazine has secured Air Force confirmation of these important facts:

1. Since 1947, hundreds of unidentified aerial objects have been tracked by radar operators of the Air Force, Navy and Civil Aeronautics Administration.

2. More than 300 times, Air Force interceptor planes have chased mysterious lights and unidentified objects revealed by radar scopes.

3. Strange round objects have shown on interceptors gun camera pictures and on photographs from the ground at a missile testing range.

4. The temperature inversion or mirage answer to radar sightings widely publicized by Dr. Donald H. Menzel of Harvard has failed to satisfy Force investigators because he has not attempted to explain any specific saucer cases in official files.”

UFO News Article:
“OPINION: The real reasons the US
Government is so secretive about UFOs”

By Tom Rogan, 17 December 2019
(Washington Examiner, Washington, D.C.)

Quote from the article:
“What I believe is really going on here is that the few individuals in the U.S. government who know about this issue believe the phenomena might be a threat. And they don’t know how to deal with it.”

My comment: I agree 100% with this statement, Mr. Rogan. Based on all the U.S. military (and other militaries) UFO evidences (government documents, radar recordings, gun camera footages, films, photographs, landing evidences and reports by pilots and other personnel), the military (at least some of the top brass) knows the UFO phenomenon is real and that the unknown objects exhibit extremely advanced technology that cannot be matched by any known Earthly craft or technology.

And – let us not forget the ICBM/UFO incidents (including shutdowns by UFOs of nuclear weapon launch facilities in the 1960s) in the U.S. Northern Tier states. So – high ranking U.S. military officials know (without a doubt) that UFOs represent a current and future threat to the Earth.

UFO News Article (Blog):
“Ex Navy boss stumped by UFOs”

By Billy Cox, 9 January 2020
(De Void, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Florida)

Quote from the article:
Milestone: This is De Void’s first UFO story to make the Herald-Tribune’s print edition. Please note the direct style, as well as the paucity of adverbs and meaningless tangents.

SARASOTAAmerica’s former Chief of Naval Operations stated on Thursday that the unidentified flying objects that appeared to have outperformed Navy fighter pilots on videos recorded in 2004 and 2015 remain a mystery.

‘I’ve seen the videos and, at least in my time, most of the assessments were inconclusive as to what it was,’ said retired Admiral Gary Roughead, following a speaking engagement in Sarasota. ‘But the whole issue of defense against autonomous vehicles is one that the Department is taking pretty darned seriously.’

Three sets of gun-camera videos – one taken from an F-18 assigned to the USS Nimitz operating off southern California in November 2004, and two more from Super Hornets attached to the USS Roosevelt during maneuvers off Jacksonville in January 2015 – were authenticated as official government footage by the Defense Department last year.”

UFO TV News Report:
“The Feed: Proof that UFOs exist”

28 April 2020
(ABC 57 News (WBND-LD), South Bend, Indiana)

ABC 57 News reports about the U.S. Department of Defense’s re-release of the FLIR1, Gimbal and GoFast videos on 27 April 2020.

Surely now – some of the mainstream media reporters will start pressing the U.S. Department of Defense to reveal all the UFO evidences (gun camera footages, radar records, documents, etc.) it possesses. The U.S. DoD, of course, has the right to protect its sources, methods and technical data. We only want to see the UFO evidences and data.

From now on – we will see who the real journalists are!

ABC 57 News, a regional TV station, has made a good start. A big kudos to ABC 57 News. Now – the MSM reporters must start to go after the Pentagon’s UFO evidences.
