The "Battle of Los Angeles," 24 and 25 February 1942

Several UFOs were first sighted over Los Angeles, California, on the night of 24 February 1942.

“Air raid sirens were sounded throughout Los Angeles County at 2:25 a.m. and a total blackout was ordered. Thousands of air raid wardens were summoned to their positions. At 3:16 a.m. on February 25, the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade began firing 12.8-pound anti-aircraft shells into the air at the object(s); over 1400 shells would eventually be fired [1]. Pilots of the 4th Interceptor Command were alerted but their aircraft remained grounded. The artillery fire continued sporadically until 4:14 a.m. The objects were said to have taken about 20 minutes to have moved from over Santa Monica to above Long Beach. The "all clear" was sounded and the blackout order lifted at 7:21 a.m.”

“UFO Captured Following RAF Plane: 
MoD Refuses to Investigate”

John Powell, a retired school teacher, managed to photograph a UFO, which chased an RAF Hercules airplane that was about to land at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire, UK on 22 July 2009 at 3:45 p.m.

Powell sighted the unknown object while he was gardening. The sun was glinting off the UFO, according to Powell:

MoD bosses didn’t consider the incident a threat. Therefore, they wouldn’t investigate the case.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The MoD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity. Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported."

“Chased by Mysterious Light”,
8 November 2007 (NRK, Oslo, Norway)

On 8 October 2007, Anne Gjertsås and her 26-year-old daughter, Bente Renè Linmo, were driving from Sørli to Steinkjer (north of Trondheim). Shortly before 10:30 p.m. they sighted something out of the ordinary.

When they had passed Lifjellet, the two women started talking about that they felt a strange sensation. They had not yet seen the unknown light.

“We had driven down from the mountain (Lifjellet) and after a short while both of us got a strange sensation. We know this area very well, but now we didn’t recognise the area we were driving through,” says Linmo.

Anne Gjertsås confirms her daughter’s story.

“Suddenly we saw an unknown light and asked ourselves what the object could be. At first we thought that it maybe was some road work which was going on, but it was too late at night for that,” says Linmo.

Gjertsås was really frightened and drove under the strange light, which was flying 20 metres above them. After a short while they stopped beside the road.

“I grabbed the camera in my purse. Then I leaned out of the window and took the photograph. Everything happened so fast that I didn’t have time to become frightened,” says Linmo.

Even though she managed to photograph the object, the object doesn’t look the same in the photo as when it was sighted visually.

The unknown object also had red and green blinking lights, according to this article. The red lights are very visible in the photograph and one can also see green lights above the white light.

“Except the bright, white, spherical shaped light at the bottom of the object, I don’t recognise the object’s shape. The blinking lights we saw were much more visible,” says Linmo.

After having taken the photograph, we drove on to try to get away from the object. Linmo wanted that her mother turned the car around, so that they could take a closer look at the unknown object, but her mother refused.

“One fact which was strange about the bright, white light was that the it didn’t illuminate the terrain. It should also have illuminated the car, but it didn’t,” says Linmo.

When they started to drive away from the object, they noticed that the object began following them. After follwing the car for several minutes the object suddenly disappeared and the women started to relax.

“A few seconds went by without seeing the object. But when I looked out of the window I again saw the white light. The object now flew alongside the car,” says Gjertsås.

After having followed the car for a short while the object started to ascend and move away from the car.

“Then the object’s white light blinked two times and for the first time it illuminated the trees near it. Suddenly the object turned off the white light and the object was gone,” says Gjertsås.

Arnulf Løken, a UFO-Norge investigator, has seen the UFO photograph. He is of the opinion that this is an interesting UFO case, not least because of the photograph.

Løken follows certain procedures when he receives UFO reports like this, and he routinely contacted the Norwegian Military.

“When I contacted the Military I was informed that there was no military exercise under way in this area. And no other aircraft was registered in the area during this UFO incident. The Military at first thought that it might have been a helicopter, but since the object was completely silent they became uncertain about that theory,” says Løken.

“The incident was strange, but it was a fun experience,” says Bente Renè Linmo.

Wing Commander Alan Turner MBE Discusses 
a UK MoD Air Traffic Control Radar UFO Incident 

that occurred at RAF Sopley, UK, on 21 April 1971

When this UFO incident occurred, Alan Turner was Duty Military Supervisor and had the responsibility for monitoring the skies on radar screens for potential Soviet incursions.

A stunned RAF Coordinator first discovered two blips on the radar screen. Then more and more unknown objects came into view on the radar screen. They counted 35 in total. All the UFOs followed a north to south east track.

When the objects first appeared on the screen they flew 3,000 feet above ground level and climbed so rapidly, that by the time the UFOs disappeared from radar they were in excess of 60,000 feet.

Alan Turner was determined to solve the mystery. He diverted an RAF Canberra jet, which was on a return flight from West Germany.

When the pilot got within one mile of one particular blip, he said, in a very agitated voice, that the unknown object was “climbing like the clappers” on the jet’s radar screen.

The Canberra pilot and his navigator never made visual contact with the object.

The objects were first sighted north east of the Salisbury Plain Danger Area (UK MoD military training area) and they left the radar screen south east of Salisbury Plain (see map in the Dustin J.D. article).

A few days after this UFO incident, Alan Turner was summoned into the Squadron Leader's office and questioned by two civilian-clothed men about the incident. The two men were not identified.

“I, along with all the others who were in the room on that day, were told in no uncertain terms not to relate what we had seen until cleared to do so,” Alan Turner said in an interview.

Turner has been assured by RAF officers that there were no training operations, classified or otherwise, going on at the time and there were no weather balloons or probes in the area at the time of the UFO incident.

Alan Turner was awarded the MBE in 1984, and he retired from the RAF in 1995.
