Harold Brown, U.S. Secretary of Defense
and Dr. J. Allen Hynek Interviewed afterthe 1966 U.S. Public UFO Hearings

This UFO documentary outtake is very interesting. Harold Brown, U.S. Secretary of the Air Force and Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Astronomer) were interviewed after the public UFO Hearings that were held by the U.S. House Armed Services Committee on 5 April 1966(http://www.project1947.com/shg/symposium/shgintro.html).

Both men denied that the U.S. Air Force was hiding UFO secrets from the U.S. public.

First we see how Dr. J. Allen Hynek responded as the U.S. Air Force's scientific adviser on the subject of UFOs, when he was interviewed after the 1966 UFO hearings. Then, in the second Hynek interview (1985), which was conducted many years after Hynek had left his job at the U.S. Air Force, we are told how the inner machinations within the U.S. Air Force worked regarding the UFO phenomenon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moi8UlyRkUU

In Dr. J. Allen Hynek’s own words:

“I know the job they (the U.S. Air Force) had. They were told not to excite the public. Don’t rock the boat. I saw it with my own eyes how whenever a (UFO) case happened that they could explain, they made a point of that and let that out to the media. Cases that were very difficult to explain, they would jump handsprings to keep the media away from (them). They had a job to do, whether rightfully or wrongly, to keep the public from getting excited.”

Dr. J. Allen Hynek Admits Astronomers Do See UFOs

In this interview that took place in 1977 Dr. J. Allen Hynek admits that astronomers have sighted UFOs. Hynek says that sixty-four U.S. astronomers who responded to a UFO survey said that they had sighted UFOs:

UFO Documentary Film Excerpt:
Dr. J. Allen Hynek Recounts His Meeting
with the Robertson Panel, 1974

After a massive UFO sighting wave in 1952 over Washington, D.C. and elsewhere in the U.S., the CIA commissioned a committee (The Robertson Panel, 1953) to study the UFO phenomenon and to discuss what actions the U.S. government should take regarding the situation.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek was an Associate Member of “The Robertson Panel.”

In this segment from the UFO documentary, “UFOs: It has Begun”, we can see two of the UFO films that the “Robertson Panel” studied. The UFO films can be seen 1:45 (the Great Falls, Montana film by Nicholas Mariana) and 1:56 minutes (the Tremonton, Utah film by U.S. Navy photographer Delbert C. Newhouse) into the video:

As mentioned earlier on this blog, Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Astronomer) was a scientific adviser to UFO studies undertaken by the U.S. Air Force. It’s therefore very interesting to hear what Hynek thought about Robertson Panel proceedings.

“In 1975, when I was hosting a weekly radio show about UFOs, Dr. J. Allen Hynek graciously accepted my invitation to be interviewed in the studios of UMFM 101.5 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He was in Winnipeg for a series of lectures about UFOs and astronomy. The short interview is very embarrassing to hear because I was very young, eager and inexperienced at interviews. My questions were all over the map and few flowed easily from one to another. And here I was, interviewing THE guy about UFOs! (Bonus: the show’s intro /extro music is ridiculous.)”

UFO Lecture/Paper (Excerpt):
“The Kirtland CE/RV Incident
Albuquerque, New Mexico
November 4, 1957”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO lecture/paper excerpt:
Dr. J. Allen Hynek:
We will never know whether UFO reports represent genuinely new empirical observations if we continue the type of logical fallacy illustrated by the Air Force analysis of a radar-visual UFO report from Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1957. Two witnesses in the control tower reported at 11:00 p.m. that an object, which looked (through binoculars) like a lighted, up-ended automobile, came within 200 feet of the ground when it disappeared behind a fence in a highly restricted area, easily visible from the control tower, then rose abruptly at very high angular rate and disappeared. It was observed visually for about six minutes, about half of that time through binoculars, and tracked in part by radar. The report of the Air Force officer who investigated this case, which is in the Bluebook file, states:

The two sources are Airways Operations Specialists with a total of 23 years experience. Both were on duty in the control tower at Kirtland Air Force Base when the sighting was made - both appeared to he mature and well poised individuals, apparently of well above average intelligence, and temperamentally well qualified for the demanding requirements of control tower operators. Although completely cooperative and willing to answer any question, both sources appeared to be slightly embarrassed that they could not identify or offer an explanation of the object which they are unshakably convinced they saw. In the opinion of the interviewer, both sources are completely competent and reliable.

Project Bluebook explained this sighting as that of an aircraft; and gave the following specific reasons:

1. The observers are considered competent and reliable sources and in the opinion of the interviewer actually saw an object they could not identify.
2. The object was tracked on a radar scope by a competent operator.
3. The object does not meet identification criteria for any other phenomenon.

So, the witnesses were solid, the radar operator competent, and the object unidentifiable as any other phenomenon; therefore the object had to be an aircraft. Clearly, if such reasoning is applied to all UFO reports we can hardly expect to find out whether any genuinely new empirical observations exist to be explained. Schroedinger, the father of quantum mechanics, wrote: ‘The first requirement of a scientist is that he be curious; he must be capable of being astonished, and eager to find out.’ Perhaps he should have added, ‘and be ready to examine data even when presented in a bewildering and confusing form.’

UFO News Article:
“UFOs are studied by France”

8 October 1977
(Houston Chronicle, Texas)

Source: theufochronicles.com

The Houston Chronicle presents a Chicago Daily News article.

The whole article:
“A French government agency has begun to study the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects.

J. Allen Hynek, professor of astronomy at Northwestern University and director of the Center for UFO Studies, said the study is the first of its kind to be funded by any government.

The French National Center for Space Studies (CNES) has created a research group which has asked Hynek’s organization for cooperation.

Hynek told reporters that CNES is equivalent to our National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

‘The implications of this step taken by the French government are farreaching,’ Hynek said. ‘It points up to the growing interest on an official level and recognition of the serious nature of the UFO phenomenon,’ he added.

Hynek has been studying UFO reports since 1948.

‘There will now be an official government group – unfortunately in another country – that is going to take this thing seriously,’ he said.

‘All of our data is available to them. We have computer data on 60,000 cases. The great difference between our work and what the French will be doing is they will be properly funded.

Hynek hedged when asked if he personally believes the Earth has been visited by beings from other worlds.

‘It is possible,’ he said.”
