UFO Case Directory
(Sightings From Aircraft or Spacecraft):
“Glowing Disc Startles
Veteran Brazilian Airline Pilot
between Belo Horizonte and Uberaba, Brazil
Aug. 9, 1971”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
Richard Hall:
Capt. Vicente Lopes Buono, commanding an airline flight (call letters PP-DHU) between Belo Horizonte and Uberaba, Brazil, on August 9, 1971, at 9:00 a.m., reported that his plane was paced for 20 minutes at 2,400 meters (7,920 feet) altitude by a glowing orange disc (‘like two round basins, one on top of the other’) over mountainous terrain. Sgt. Falcao, flight controller at Uberaba airport, suggested that he investigate the object. When the pilot tried to move closer, the object maintained a constant distance, then suddenly increased its speed and disappeared.

The sighting occurred between the cities of Pratinha and Sacramento in the Minas Gerais region. Lopes Buono, a pilot for 24 years, said ‘I never saw anything like it in my entire career as a pilot.’ He gave a statement to Sgt. Silvio Motta, commander of the Brazilian Air Force unit in Uberaba.14

UFO News Article:
“State UFO Sightings Follow Global Patterns”,
19 August 1971 (Kingsport Post, Tennessee)

The Kingsport Post informs about UFO incidents that have occurred in Tennessee throughout the years:

On 11 July 1950, the pilots R. E. Moore and J. W. Martin (flying slow training airplanes), from the Millington Naval Air Station near Memphis, sighted a UFO with a dome on top. Electronics Technician G. D. Wehner (on board Moore’s airplane) caught the UFO on the radar scope.

Several Shenandoah Heights residents sighted a disk shaped UFO with a dome on top on 10 October 1967, at around 10:15 p.m., according to the article.

Quote from the article:
“1968 was the year that Kingsport came under the ‘watchful eye’ of the UFO visitations.”

UFO Documentary Film Segment:
Wing Commander Alan Turner MBE Discusses
a UK MoD Air Traffic Control Radar UFO Incident
that occurred at RAF Sopley, UK, on 21 April 1971

Source: Xtraeme (YouTube channel)

The segment is from the Channel 5 (London, UK) documentary film, Britain’s Closest Encounters - Alderney Lights.

When this UFO incident occurred, Alan Turner was Duty Military Supervisor and had the responsibility for monitoring the skies on radar screens for potential Soviet incursions.

A stunned RAF Coordinator first discovered two blips on the radar screen. Then more and more unknown objects came into view on the radar screen, according to Turner’s testimony in the documentary segment. They counted 35 in total. All the UFOs followed a north to south east track.

When the objects first appeared on the screen they flew 3,000 feet above ground level and climbed so rapidly, that by the time the UFOs disappeared from radar they were in excess of 60,000 feet.

Alan Turner was determined to solve the mystery. He diverted an RAF Canberra jet, which was on a return flight from West Germany.

When the pilot got within one mile of one particular blip, he said, in a very agitated voice, that the unknown object was “climbing like the clappers” (according to Turner) on the jet’s radar screen.

The Canberra pilot and his navigator never made visual contact with the object.

The objects were first sighted north east of the Salisbury Plain Danger Area (UK MoD military training area) and they left the radar screen south east of Salisbury Plain.

A few days after this UFO incident, Alan Turner was summoned into the Squadron Leader's office and questioned by two civilian-clothed men about the incident. The two men were not identified.

“I, along with all the others who were in the room on that day, were told in no uncertain terms not to relate what we had seen until cleared to do so,” Alan Turner said in an interview.

Turner has been assured by RAF officers that there were no training operations, classified or otherwise, going on at the time and there were no weather balloons or probes in the area at the time of the UFO incident.

Quote from Alan Turner’s testimony in the documentary film segment:
“There were seven technically different radars (my comment: both ground and airborne radar) – all seeing exactly the same thing.

There are two types of tape. One is the video tape taken from the radar, and the other is the voice tape. And that is air to ground, ground to air; that is all the land lines and all the converstions between the controllers and each other. I have absolutely no idea where it is or even if it still exists. All I do know is that it did exist.

I am absolutely certain that it was some very strange phenomenon on radar – which no one has yet to come up with any rational explanation for.”

Alan Turner was awarded the MBE in 1984, and he retired from the RAF in 1995.

The information in this article is taken from several credible sources.

I first reported about this documentary film segment on 5 August 2009.

UFO Case Report:
“July 13, 1969; Van Horne, IA”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
“11:00 PM. A high school girl was having her cousin [a beautician] over for a visit and a sleep-over. The two young women were still up when they heard a sound outside. Looking out their window, they saw an object above the field across the road. It was less than a mile away. The thing appeared to be a gray metallic disk, non-luminous, but with a orange-red band of light around the circumference. This light enabled the girls to see the shape clearly: like ‘a shallow inverted bowl with a curved bottom’. The object was ‘clean’ [no protrusions nor individual lights]. The object came directly over the farmhouse, its vibrations rattling the bedroom windows. [The parents were asleep already and did not awaken]. The girls felt that the disk was ‘the size of an automobile’ and was rotating counter-clockwise as it rose and sailed away. The next morning they told the one girl’s parents what had happened but were not believed. That morning however, the father was out walking the fields and came across a forty foot diameter circle of dried out soybean crop, which had not previously been there. This area was not only a ‘perfect’ circle but in the proper location for the sighting of the UFO. The appearance of the affected crop was ‘all of the leaves of each plant were hanging wilted from the stalks’ as if, the UFO field researcher hypothesized, ‘they had been subjected to intense heat’. The spot was apparently the result of a ‘near-landing’ rather than an actual touch-down, as the plants were not broken off nor crushed. A fine aerial photo of this circle has been made and is attached to this report. The UFO community was on the scene relatively early, with the APRO investigator taking the photos and soil samples, and Walt Andrus of MUFON/APRO interviewing the daughter [the only early interview of the cousin was by news persons]. As was almost universally the case APRO dropped the ball on the analysis of the samples and reported only that the plants were dry, shriveled, and not radioactive.  Dr. J. Allen Hynek even visited the site and was later quoted: ‘I still don’t know what the hell this thing is all about... It looked as though a big heater had been held six feet above the ground’. Neighbors of the family contributed the remarks that their dogs were making a racket that evening. Van Horne stands as one of the best ‘landing effects’ cases on record. This is because it has multiple witnesses, an immediate corroberation [sic] of the trace by someone who knew exactly the state of his farm fields, no desire for publicity [in fact a parent who blocked almost all of it], no motivation [in fact, a loss of valuable crop], multiple, early-on-scene investigators with good track records for straight-shooting, and a fairly large and mysterious effect. On some scales of rating ‘trace’ cases, this might be #1. [Mike Swords; References: a). APRO UFO Report Form (case field investigation), undated but c. The UK MoD Explained Away ITV UFO Footage,
October 1971

In late October 1971 an ITV TV crew was recording footage for a farming report, and by chance, they managed to record footage of a UFO:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnxUsSKB_mI

The daytime UFO film was recorded near Enstone, UK.

I posted a report regarding this ITV UFO footage on 17 August 2008.

When I read through the March 1972 issue of Skylook (MUFON), I found a short report that told us that the UK Ministry of Defence was of the opinion that this footage showed Space debris.

Space debris?!!!

The unknown object hovered for a while, before taking off at an unbelievable speed!

Apparently, it was important to the MoD to convince the UK public that the footage didn't show an unknown object.

UFO Article (Case Report):
“US Aircraft Carrier stopped by UFO”

By Jim Kopf
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the article:
“This encounter occurred in 1971, while aboard the aircraft carrier, USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 (now CV-67) in the Bermuda Triangle. I was assigned to the communications department of the Kennedy and had been in this section about a year. The ship was returning to Norfolk, VA after completing a two week operational readiness exercise (ORE) in the Caribbean. We were to stand down for 30 days, after arriving in Norfolk, Virginia, to allow the crew to take leave and visit family before deploying to the Mediterranean for six months.

I was on duty in the communications center. My task was to monitor eight teletypes printing the ‘Fleet Broadcasts’.

It was in the evening, about 20:30 (8:30 PM) and the ship had just completed an eighteen hour ‘Flight Ops’. I had just taken a message off one of the broadcasts and turned around to file it on a clip board. When I turned back to the teletypes the primaries were typing garbage. I looked down to the alternates which were doing the same. I walked a few feet to the intercom between us and the Facilities Control. I called them and informed them of the broadcasts being out. A voice replied that all communications were out. I then turned and looked in the direction of the NAVCOMMOPNET and saw that the operator was having a problem. I then heard the Task Group operator tell the watch officer that his circuit was out also. In the far corner of the compartment was the pneumatic tubes going to the Signal bridge (where the flashing light and signal flag messages are sent/receive). There is an intercom there to communicate with the Signal Bridge and over this intercom we heard someone yelling ‘There is something hovering over the ship!’ A moment later we heard another voice yelling. ‘IT IS GOD! IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!’.

As we looked up, we saw a large, glowing sphere. Well it seemed large, however, there was no point of reference. That is to say, if the sphere were low; say 100 feet above the ship, then it would have been about two to three hundred feet in diameter. If it were say 500 feet about the ship then it would have been larger. It made no sound that I could hear. The light coming from it wasn’t too bright, about half of what the sun would be. It sort of pulsated a little and was yellow to orange.

We didn’t get to looked at it for more than about 20 seconds because General Quarters (Battle stations) was sounding and the Communication Officer was in the passageway telling us to get back into the Comm Center. We returned and stayed there (that was out battle station).

Over the next few hours, I talked to a good friend that was in CIC (combat information center) who was a radar operator. He told me that all the radar screens were just glowing during the time of the incident. I also talked to a guy I knew that worked on the Navigational Bridge. He told me that none of the compasses were working and that the medics had to sedate a boatswains mate that was a lookout on the signal bridge. I figured this was the one yelling it was God.

I heard from the scuttlebut (slang - rumor mill) that three or four ‘men in trench coats’ had landed, and were interviewing the personnel that had seen this phenomena. I was never interviewed, maybe because no one knew that I had seen it.”

My comment:
The UFO case report was originally submitted to UFO Casebook (https://ufocasebook.com/).

Wikipedia article: “USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67)”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) (formerly CVA-67) is the only ship of her class (a variant of the Kitty Hawk class of aircraft carrier) and the last conventionally powered carrier built for the United States Navy.[5]

After nearly 40 years of service in the United States Navy, John F. Kennedy was officially decommissioned on 1 August 2007. She is berthed at the NAVSEA Inactive Ships On-site Maintenance facility in Philadelphia and, until late 2017, was available for donation as a museum and memorial to a qualified organization.[1][7] In late 2017, the Navy revoked her ‘donation hold’ status and designated her for dismantling.[4] The name has been adopted by the future Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN-79).”

UFO Article (Blog):
“Bombshell Emerges: United States Air Force (USAF) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Investigated UFO Cases Years After Project Blue Book Closed”

By Paul Dean, 25 August 2018
(UFOs – Documenting The Evidence, Melbourne, Australia)

Quote from the article:
“We already know about JANAP–146 and its CIRVIS UFO reporting procedures, but what about the reference to ‘Air Force Manual 55–11’? During the late 1960’s ‘Air Force Manual 55–11, Operations, Air Force Operational Reporting System’ (AFM–55–11) detailed the vital ‘Air Force Operational Reporting System’ (AFOREPS). The AFOREPS network included several operational reporting categories, and one of them was the OPREP–3 channel. In May, 1971, the OPREP–3 system was migrated to the other branches of the US military. As stated, OPREP–3’s were been used to report UFO’s near military installations. Brig. Gen. Bolender’s stipulation that ‘…unidentified flying objects which could affect national security…’ be reported using such a system was evidently taken up.

On and on it goes. CIRVIS reports, MERINT reports, OPREP–3 reports, Serious Incident Reports… The USAF and, apparently, the FAA, had numerous, classified sources of UFO cases to investigate. Again, the US Army told Robert Todd that the ‘…USAF coordinate their investigation and findings with the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA)…’, and together they accomplished ‘…detailed follow–on investigations, if required…’. During the course of my research I have discovered several other channels utilised for UFO reporting. These include ‘Daily Spot Intelligence Reports’ (DSINTREP), which are swiftly lodged at the Headquarters of the Numbered Air Forces, and ‘Unit Reports’ (UNITREP) which are submitted by US Coast Guard ships. There are more. The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) has, or at least had, numerous instructions and command directives that specifically mention ‘Unidentified Flying Objects’, ‘UFOs’ and ‘Objects’. This would be fine if they were solely talking about stray aircraft, unknown aircraft, balloons and the like. But those more mundane aerial events were already covered in other doctrine. The old Air Force Intelligence Service (AFIS) was involved, at minimum, in the logging and preliminary assessment of UFO cases. Specifically, AFIS’s small Aerospace Intelligence Division (AFIS/INZ) handled UFO events for the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and the 8th Air Force in 1975. Likewise, and unsurprisingly, the USAF’s Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence (ACS/I) dealt with UFO conundrums. Specifically, ACS/I’s highly classified Scientific and Technical Branch, which was located within the Directorate of Resource Management, was tasked with keeping track of USAF generated UFO sightings in the 1970’s. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

In some ways, the US Army’s revelations to Robert Todd should be of little surprise. The signs were there all along. The military was still dealing heavily with the UFO topic after Project Blue Book ended. But now we have evidence of wider, multi–agency UFO ‘investigation’ rather than just the receiving of reports. The USAF and the FAA, in hindsight, were should always have been considered the most logical combination of bodies to investigate UFO events, at least within the United States. NORAD too has investigated UFO events, and not merely of the unidentified airplane flavour. Further, we now know that the US Army was quite prepared to deal with UFO’s too. Experience tells us that the declassified records we have thus far acquired will be dwarfed by what is not yet available. The entire history of governmental UFO secrecy is likely far richer than anyone initially envisaged.”
