UFO Report:
“The 1989 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 August 2008
Updated: 19 December 2013
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“This is currently a 14-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1989. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1989 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]. You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members; Rebecca Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns). Bob Gribble’s entries are those filed with the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington, now operated by Peter Davenport. Trace cases are now being entered with the help of Ted Phillips, Center for Physical Trace Research and retrofitted into previous chronologies as time permits. Since I was Indiana State Director (MUFON) at that time, many of our Indiana cases are listed here.

Of possible interest, the MADAR Project (which I headed for 20 years) had 5 anomalistic EM readings which are listed chronologically here.

June 4, 1989; Palmdale, CA
7:45 PM. A security guard and an air traffic controller at Air Force Facility 42 in Palmdale, California witnessed a silver flying object and three orb-shaped UFOs during testing of the B1-B bomber. There was also a rumor of an abduction occurring on this date at the same facility. (Source: MUFON UFO Journal, November 1990).

June 11, 1989; near St. John’s, Newfoundland
7:00 AM. A Canadian Airlines International crew watched a dark grey or black ovoid object, estimated to be about 2 meters in length, make complex maneuvers in the sky not far from St. John’s, Newfoundland for three minutes. (Source: Chris Rutkowski, International UFO Reporter, July 1990, p. 10).

July 22, 1989; Trenton, ME
3:30 PM. Over Blue Hill Bay -- At 3:30 p.m. Randy Rhodes, a police dispatcher for the City of Ellsworth, and Bill Reiff, an attorney, took off in a Beechcraft Bonanza from the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. At around 3:45 p.m. they spotted a huge metallic disc, shining like polished aluminum, at the 9 o'clock position. It was at the same altitude as their plane--approximately 5100-5200 feet. The object suddenly moved dead ahead to the 12 o'clock position and it took on a reddish or rose color. Not very enthusiastic about continuing on with this thing in front of them, they turned back for the Bar Harbor-Trenton airport. The Aerial Direction Finder was working at the time but the DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) was not receiving. It had never before given them a problem, and 3-4 minutes after the object disappeared the DME came back on. When they landed they discovered that there had been power surges and outages on the ground, and they recalled that when they last observed the object it was headed in the direction of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power plant in Wiscasset. However, a spokesman for the Bangor HydroElectric Company later reported that three limbs falling over a transmission line when a resident cut down a tree caused the outage. (Source: UFOE Vol. II, Section III; Leland Bechtel, MUFON UFO Journal, November 1989, p. 19)

July 28, 1989; Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia
11:20 PM. A domed disc-shaped object was seen over a high security rocket weapons depot in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, Russia, by four military witnesses, including the two main witnesses named Voloshin and Tishchayev. The UFO glowed a phosphorescent green. It circled the depot three times, accelerated and then stopped abruptly. It shot away when a Soviet fighter jet appeared. Oct. 1989-May 1990; Belgium
Concentration of triangular UFO sightings, jet interceptor chases, radar-visual sightings (see November 29, 1989; March 30, 1990).

Nov. 19, 1989; Northwestern, AR
1:35 AM. Shocking and extremely interesting close encounter witnessed by five people, one a deputy sheriff. See full report. (AUN-3,1)

“My Interview With Richard Dolan,
Renowned UFO Expert, Researcher and Writer”

Published: 3 January 2018
(Lionel Nation (YouTube channel))

Lionel Nation is run by Michael William Lebron. Lebron is a U.S. syndicated radio, television and YouTube legal, media and politics analyst.

Video text:
“Richard M. Dolan is one of the world’s leading researchers and writers on the subject of UFOs as well as other thinkers dedicated to pushing back our boundaries and exploring new vistas of our world. Richard Dolan is also one of the world’s leading researchers and writers on the subject of UFOs, and believes that they constitute the greatest mystery of our time.

He is the author of two volumes of history, UFOs and the National Security State, both ground-breaking works which together provide the most factually complete and accessible narrative of the UFO subject available anywhere. He also co-authored a speculative book about the future, A.D. After Disclosure, the first-ever analysis not only of how UFO secrecy might end, but of the all-important question: what happens next?”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“SUBJECT: Unidentified Flying Objects”

2 December 1952
(Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C.)

Source: NICAP.org

NICAP.org’s introduction to the document:
“December 2, 1952; CIA Memo
An EOTS [Estimate of the Situation] Moment for the CIA.
[H. Marshall] Chadwell told Brad Sparks they concluded that
UFO’s were extraterrestrialthat was what he was telling the
CIA Director in this Dec. 2, 1952, memo.”

My comment:
H. Marshall Chadwell was Assistant Director of the CIA’s Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) in 1952.

The meaning of the acronyms are as follows, according to CUFON.org (http://www.cufon.org/cufon/cia-52-1.htm):

ACRONYM – MEANING – AGENCY
* DCI – Director of Central Intelligence – CIA
* OSI or O/SI – Office of Scientific Intelligence – CIA
* NSCID – National Security Council Intelligence Directive
* DD/I, DDI – Deputy Director for Intelligence – CIA
* AD/SI – Assistant Director/Scientific Intelligence – CIA
* AD/IC – Assistant Director/Intelligence Coordination – CIA
* R&DB (or RDB) – Research and Development Board
* DI/USAF – Directorate (or Director) of Intelligence
   U.S. Air Force
* A-2 – Air Force (air) Intelligence – U.S. Air Force
* ATIC – Air Technical Intelligence Center (Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio) – U.S. Air Force
* DDCI – Deputy Director of Central Intelligence – CIA
* CENIS – MIT Center for International Studies
   (CIA contract agency)

The whole document (not written in Central Intelligence Agency document format):
“MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence

THRU: Deputy Director for Intelligence

1. On 20 August, the DCI, after a briefing by OSI on the above subject, directed the preparation of an NSCID for submission to the Council stating the need for investigation and directing agencies concerned to cooperate on such investigations.

2. In attempting to draft such a directive and the supporting staff studies, it became apparent to DD/I, Acting AD/SI and AD/IC that the problem was largely a research and development problem, and it was decided by DD/I to attempt to initiate action through R&DB. A conference was held between DI/USAF, Chairman of R&DB, DD/I, Acting AD/SI and AD/IC at which time it was decided that Dr. Whitman, Chairman of R&DB, would investigate the possibility of undertaking research and development studies through Air Force agencies.

3. On approximately 6 November, we were advised by Chairman, R&DB, that inquiries in the Air Staff did not disclose ‘undue concern’ over this matter, but that it had been referred to the Air Defense Command for consideration. No further word has been received from R&DB.

4. Recent reports reaching CIA indicated that further action was desirable and another briefing by the cognizant A-2 and ATIC personnel was held on 25 November. At this time, the reports of incidents convince us that there is something going on that must have immediate attention. The details of some of these incidents have been discussed by AD/SI with DDCI. Sighting of unexplained objects at great altitudes and travelling at high speeds in the vicinity of major U.S. defense installations are of such nature that they are not attributable to natural phenomena or known types of aerial vehicles.

5. OSI is proceeding to the establishment of a consulting group of sufficient competence and stature to review this matter and convince the responsible authorities in the community that immediate research and development on this subject must be undertaken. This can be done expeditiously under the aegis of CENIS.”

Wikipedia article: “Ladd Army Airfield”:

Quote from the above Wikipedia article:
Ladd Army Airfield (IATA: FBK, ICAO: PAFB, FAA LID: FBK) is the military airfield located at Fort Jonathan Wainwright, located in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was originally called Fairbanks Air Base, but was renamed Ladd Field on 1 December 1939,[4] in honor of Major Arthur K. Ladd, a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps who died in a plane crash near Dale, South Carolina on 13 December 1935.[5][6]

The major use of Ladd Field was primarily cold-weather testing of aircraft and equipment. Only Interior Alaska offered the consistently cold temperatures needed. However, the Attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 forced the temporary halt on testing at Ladd since the military needed all aircraft for the defense of Alaska.”
