UFO News Article:
“Strange Object Maneuvers Near
Nuclear Shipbuilding Disturb Navy”

14 November 1973

(The Register, Santa Ana, California (not Pascagoula, Mississippi))

Source: Water UFO (waterufo.net) (Carl W. Feindt)

Quote from the article:

“As a first step in an apparently highly serious operation to determine the cause and nature of a submerged, metallic, beam-emitting, disappearing-reappearing, course-changing object seen maneuvering Tuesday evening, Nov. 6, in the Pascagoula River, the U.S. Navy Friday dispatched to the site of the mystery Lt. Cmdr. Craig Dorman of the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory at Panama City, Florida. These columnists learned Monday that this Navy concern stems from the proximity of the observations to the Navy nuclear shipbuilding activities approximately 200 yards away.

In a comprehensive report being written by Dorman and to be released next week, the Navy is expected to disclose that it has absolutely no idea what the object is (or was) in the Pascagoula River.”

UFO Case Report (E-mail):
“Subject: Skylab III Case, in Orbit,
over SW Indian Ocean, Sept. 20, 1973”

By Francis L. Ridge, 13 November 2012

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:

http://www.nicap.org/docs/730920skylabIII_docs.pdf

Fran Ridge:

In 1973 we had no large orbiting space station circling the Earth at a time when one of the largest UFO flaps to hit the planet was in progress. A document that was found indicates that the location was over the southwestern Indian Ocean during revolution # 1863. Astronauts Alan Bean, Owen Garriott and Jack Lousma spotted what they described as a red "satellite", which they photographed and mentioned during a subsequent debriefing. We have radio conversation (transcript only) with Houston CapCom about 4.5 hours after the sighting of this object. There was no man-made satellite that could explain this sighting and hence the object was truly anomalous.

Tasked with everything from maintenance to experiments both scientific and medical, the crew of Skylab III faced a number of crises during their short tenure (July 28, 1973, to September 25, 1973,) all of which were thankfully resolved and one occurrence of a possible otherworldly nature which never was explained, an unidentified object that followed the space lab purportedly undetected by NASA or NORAD.

A few days before returning to Earth and while out of radio contact, Garriott took photos of an anomalous object from Skylab's wardroom window. The first recorded mention of the incident was between the astronauts and CAPCOM some four and a half hours later:

LOUSMA: "Did you tell him about that satellite we saw?

BEAN: Yes, we saw a great satellite. We didn't know if we told you about it.

LOUSMA: The closest and brightest one we've seen.

BEAN: Huge one.

LOUSMA: We've seen several. It was a red one.

CAPCOM: No, you may have told somebody, but it wasn't this team. I don't remember hearing about it.

LOUSMA: I guess we didn't report it. It was reflecting in red light and oscillating at, oh, counting it's period of brightest to dimmest, about ten seconds. It led us into sunset. That was about three revs ago, I think. Something like that, wasn't it Owen?

(NOTE: Astronaut Owen does NOT respond to this question, and the topic of conversation abruptly changes. There is no information available regarding whether or not this sighting was brought to the attention of Mission Control prior to this radio contact 4.5 hours after the event).”

I also reported about this UFO case report on 18 November 2015.

On This Day [UFOINFO.com UFO case report]:

September 21

1966 - Eight members of the Royal Canadian Air Force saw a bright object that flew down at high speed in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It stopped abruptly, remained at ground level for 20 minutes, then flew away straight up. There was radar-visual confirmation of the UFO over a missile site. NORAD was alerted and jet interceptors were scrambled. UFO News Article:
“Policeman, UFO Play Tag”

16 November 1973
(Miami News-Record, Oklahoma)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“A western Oklahoma police officer said an unidentified flying object played tag with his patrol car early today [16 November 1973] and another UFO landed on the highway behind him when he wasn’t looking.

‘We were watching one of them up in the air and everywhere we would go, it would go,’ Erick Patrolman John Roberts reported. ‘Then I looked in the rear view mirror and there was another one. It had landed on the road about 500 yards behind us.’

Roberts said he and his companions, Freddie Ross and Preston Crosby, both 17 and Erick residents, tried to approach the UFO that landed but it disappeared.

‘Just as we turned around, it was just like somebody had switched off a light switch,’ he said. ‘It was gone.’

The other UFO remained in view about 45 minutes, he said.

‘The one that stayed up was like a bright red and was a sort of pulsating light,’ Roberts said. ‘It would get real bright and then go dim and then bright again. It finally turned a sort of burnt orange.

‘The one I saw in the rear view mirror was a real brilliant blue and it had a constant glow. It was so bright we couldn’t make out any shape to it.’

Roberts said he was on patrol when two youths called his attention to the light in the sky.

‘The one we watched the longest would sort of dart in and out when we moved,’ he said. ‘When we would go toward it, then it would move away. When we went the other way, it was right with us.

‘Sometimes it would zig-zag out in front of us and dart around. Finally it just got a way off and disappeared.’

Roberts said the movements of the objects were ‘too sharp’ for them to have been helicopters of airplanes.

‘I can’t explain what they were but I am convinced there is some sort of UFOs out there,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t believe anything else after what I saw this morning.’ ”

My comment:
A similar UFO incident that also involved police officers occurred in Brownsville, Texas, on 14 November 1973.

The UFO followed the car for 32 kilometres (20 miles). When the driver stopped the car, the unknown object also would stop and when the car speeded up, the unknown object followed suit.

Law enforcement officers in Harlingen and San Benito also sighted the UFO.

Brownsville is the southernmost city in Texas.

UFO News Article:
“UFO Sighted On FM 413;
Followed Car For Miles –
Dim, Bright, Three Pointed”

22 November 1973
(The Rosebud News, Texas)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“ ‘It chased us, and we were scared, and our boys were scared,’
so said Mrs. Fay Seeley and Mrs. Fay Hileman Sunday night
(18 November 1973) when they saw an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) on FM 413 between Kendrick Ranch entrance and the Brazos River.

‘This is just too much. I know that people are just going to laugh at us. It is something you read in the papers and laugh at yourself, but our children saw it too, and we are all still scared,’ told Mrs. Seeley late Sunday night.

Mrs. Seeley, her sons Richard, 13, and Russell, 8, Mrs. Hileman and her son Richard, 7, were returning to Rosebud from a deer hunt near Buffalo. They were traveling on State Highway 14 and were nearing Bremond when Mrs. Hileman noticed a bright, then dimming light low in the sky. ‘I said nothing about it, because I thought it was a helicopter. I first told the others about it when we were on the highway between Bremond and State 6. They all began watching it then. It was when we turned from State 6 onto FM 1373 that we really noticed that something was really  happening, because first it was on our left side, then quicker than the eye could see, it was on our right,’ she said.

Richard Seeley told, ‘It was following us, but I did not say much about it. I knew that my mama was worried, and I was scared myself.’

They kept driving west on FM 413 and saw that the thing dimmed and got brighter, and seemed to disappear, but that when they neared the Brazos River Bridge, it appeared again, and they slowed down.

‘We were near the Kendrick Ranch house alongside the highway, and I saw that the thing was going to land in front of us on the highway. It never did land but was about treetop high and was blocking my way, so I stopped. No, I did not stop, I don’t think. I whirled the car around and got out of there fast as I could, and it still followed us and stayed behind us and I was driving as fast as I could but it was still right there all the time, but when we got to Reagan and got back on State 6 we were behind another car and the thing just seemed to lift up and disappear,’ so related Mrs. Seeley.

Richard Seeley was asked what the UFO looked like to him, and he said, ‘I don’t know, but it was pointed on top.’

Mrs. Hileman told that, ‘it was, I guess sort of round and had a point on top and two on the bottom. When it would be bright, I could not see the points too well, but when it got dimmer, you could see the points real well, and there were the shadows it cast when it was just over the highway.’ I just wish that Cecil (Tiny) would have been with us, because he will never believe this.’

A call was made to Mrs. Seeley Monday morning, and she tells, ‘I just do not believe that the thing would have let me drive on any farther. I did not sleep last night, and may not sleep any tonight. I just know that the thing would not have let me go by.’

Were there others that saw this UFO? Well, maybe. Four of us Killgores were riding back along this same highway about 8 p.m. Sunday, and the question was asked, ‘Is that the comet?’ Off toward the south was a star-like object that would glow a bit, then get dimmer, but it seemed a long way off.

On Saturday evening Mrs. Weldon Walston told of seeing a bright light to the south of their home near Powers Chapel. On Sunday night Homer Seeley told that he noticed a brightness outside their home in the Pleasant Grove community. Mrs. Myrtle Scarborough told of seeing something bright crossing the sky from south to east at Wilderville store. This has been seen a couple of times in the past few days. A motorist told Marlin police recently about such an object following his car along State 6 from the Reagan to Marlin route.

Is there such a thing? Some say ‘Yes, I believe it.’ Others just laugh when told the story. There are scientists who say that there are such things and there are supposedly photos taken of such objects in the sky.

Should anyone in the area see another such UFO, they are urged to contact this writer in Rosebud at any time of the day or night.”

My comment:
The UFO was first sighted near Bremond, Texas, according to the article.

Bremond’s location is 7.5 kilometres (4.7 miles) to the north of the Twin Oaks Power Station, according to Google Earth.

I also reported about this UFO case on 29 January 2011 and
28 July 2019.

USO News Article:
“THE UNEXPLAINED by Allen Spraggett:
Mystery Of The USO’s”

16 December 1973
(The Robesonian, Lumberton, North Carolina)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“UFO, of course, stands for Unidentified Flying Object — but have you heard of the USO?

That’s an Unidentified Submerged [Object].

There are many reports, some well documented, of strange, unclassifiable objects prowling not the sky above but the seas and oceans. Consider some typical cases.

On Aug. 29, 1964 the U.S. oceanographic ship Eltanin was taking pictures with an underwater camera at 13,500 feet below the surface some 1,000 miles west of Cape Horn.

One of the photographs captured what looked like a curious piece of machinery on the ocean floor with projecting rods which could have been antennae. It seems inconceivable that this was a plant since no sun reaches those abysmal ocean depths. The only other natural explanation that seems conceivable is that it was an unknown type of coral.

The notion of a machine, evidently not man-made, at the bottom of the sea may sound bizarre. But what was it that the noted oceanographer, Dr. Dmitric Rebikoff, saw and attempted to photograph in the Gulf Stream on July 5, 1965. It was ‘a [huge] pear-shaped object,’ he said, and definitely no form of [aquatic] life with which he, with all his marine experience, was familiar.

And what about this account, with 40 eyewitnesses to vouch for it, of an unclassifiable something that intercepted the Argentine cargo ship Naviero at midnight on July 30, 1967.

The object, spotted off the coast of Brazil, was ‘the shape of a Cuban cigar and glowed with a strange green, almost white [phosphorescence].’ That’s how Capt. Juliana Ardanza, skipper of the vessel, described the eerily shimmering USO.

‘It was an object which navigated and submerged, as any submarine, but its strange luminosity made it unusual,’ he continued. ‘It was not a mirage or illusion but a real thing.’

More recently, something unidentifiable invaded the waters of Northern Europe.

On Nov. 23, 1972 the story hit the newswires that for two weeks the Norwegian [Navy], aided and abetted by the British, had been playing catch-me-if-you-can with what they thought was an unknown submarine. The intruder was in the Sogne Fjord [Sognefjorden], north of Bergen.

There were reports of a ‘yellowish-green spotlight’ on the fjord and sightings of a dark object on the surface for about seven minutes. One night six red rocket flares were seen in the fjord. Observers said the flares ‘appeared to come straight out of the sea.’ The Norwegian [Navy] dropped anti-submarine bombs with no result.

Strangely enough, at times the Norwegian and British military communications frequencies used for the sub hunt were jammed by some unknown agency.

The extraordinary thing is that the massive Norwegian-British anti-submarine operation, using every available sophisticated technique, was unable even to establish whether there was indeed something down there, though there was no doubt about it.

Norwegian radio carried a report that the country’s Defence Command did not believe the intruder was a foreign submarine and labelled it simply ‘an unidentified submerged object.’

And that’s the way the mystery still stands. The whole flap ended when the thing, whatever it was, vanished from the fjord.

Well, it must have been a submarine, you may say, probably nuclear-powered. Fair enough. But what, then, about this well documented account which goes back to the pre-modern submarine era.

According to the log of the British steamship Fort Salisbury, the second officer, Mr. A. H. Raymer, on Oct. 28, 1902, at 3:05 a.m., in Lat. 5 degrees 31. S. and Long. 4 degrees 42 W., saw, with the lookout, ‘a huge dark object bearing lights in the sea ahead.

‘Two lights were seen. The steamship passed a slowly sinking bulk of an estimated length of five or 600 feet. Mechanism of some kind was making a commotion in the water ….’

We can add to the denizens of the world of the unexplained, the USO.”
