UFO Report:
“The 1979 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 October 2007
Updated: 6 December 2016
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“This is currently a 14-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1979. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1979 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]). You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members: William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns).

This year was the second and final season for Project UFO which was an NBC television series. Based loosely on the real-life Project Blue Book, the show was created by Dragnet veteran Jack Webb, who pored through Air Force files looking for episode ideas. The show was produced by Col. William Coleman who had had his own spectacular UFO sighting while in the Air Force.

Feb. 3, 1979, Camp New Amsterdam, Netherlands
Night? An object with three very bright white lights and one red light flew at an altitude of 150 to 200 meters (about 500 to 650 feet) and an average speed of 50 to 100 kilometers per hour (about 30 to 60 miles per hour) over the flight line of the Soesterberg base. At times it was seen to emit a beam of light to the ground. The object did not make a sound and was seen by many airmen at the base. The object twice flew along the flight line before departing at a high rate of speed. This was the summary of an investigative report by three members of the working group NOBOVO, including Dr. W. deGraaff, who worked at the (Harmons) Astronomical Institute. Police witnesses reported seeing a mother ship which later spewed out smaller UFOs, all of which landed in a valley. Military authorities were investigating. [Manila, Philippines (UPI), May 1, 1979.]

Aug. 27, 1979; Warren, MN
1:40 a.m. Frightening UFO case which involved physical trace elements. Deputy Sheriff Val Johnson was patrolling near the North Dakota border when he noticed a bright light coming through his side window. Johnson knew it was not typical vehicle lights. He thought it might be a small plane in trouble and about to crash.

Sept.17, 1979; Eichstatt, Germany
12:15 AM. In the Bavarian town of Eichstatt three pentagon-shaped UFOs were seen by many, including 10 police officers. One object hovered at 500 meters, then shot away. (Sources: MUFON UFO Journal, October 1981; Larry Hatch, U computer database, case 13306, citing MUFON).

11:00 PM. ‘We had a call from the sheriff’s department at 11:00 PM, and they said they were looking at a UFO. We looked on the radar and observed the target in the area westbound, very fast. There were three controllers and myself. We watched the target and it stopped, changed direction to a north heading, went north for about three miles, stopped again, went southwest for five miles, stopped again, went westbound right up to the Mississippi River, stopped there, then continued westbound. It covered 54 miles in three-and-one half minutes, plus it stopped four times. We were receiving a strong return. There were no known aircraft in the area. I have never seen an aircraft at that speed turn that fast. The stops were very abrupt and the turns were very abrupt. I don’t know of any airplane that can turn that fast. We picked up a second object at 11:04 PM and it proceeded southwest until it was directly over the Mississippi River at which time it turned southbound and paralleled right over the river for about half-a-mile and moved away to the west-southwest. After we picked up the second object, I checked back with the sheriff’s department and was advised that they had observed another object. The position the sheriff gave me correlated with the targets we saw.’ (MUJ-186,13)”

Wikipedia article: “Soesterberg Air Base”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“Soesterberg Air Base (IATA: UTC, ICAO: EHSB) was a Royal Netherlands Air Force military air base located in Soesterberg, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) east-northeast of Utrecht. It was first established as an airfield in 1911, and in 1913, the Dutch Army bought the field and established the Army Aviation Division.

For almost 40 years, United States Air Force facilities at Soesterberg, named Camp New Amsterdam was a major front line USAFE air base during the Cold War. The base was closed on 31 December 2008, due to budget cuts in the Dutch Army. The air base ceased flying operations on 12 November 2008, when the command was transferred from the Dutch Air Force to Dutch Defense who will take care of the base until it will be given back to nature. The last fighter ever to depart, delayed due bad weather at Aviano AB, was a Greek F-4E Phantom II. The former USAFE part stays in military hands, and will now officially be called Camp New Amsterdam.”

Newsletter Quote:
“STIGMATA”

No. 7, Fall 1979

(Project Stigma, Paris, Texas)

Source: Archives For the Unexplained (AFU.se), Norrköping, Sweden

Project Stigma was run by the late animal mutilation researcher Thomas (Tom) R. Adams.

Quote from the newsletter issue:

“1979 MUTILATIONS

NEW MEXICO

Taos County - On January 12, a 5-year-old heifer was discovered near Ranchitos - less that a quarter-mile from the site of a controversial UFO sighting and residue-dropping in July of 1978.

Source: THE TAOS (NM) NEWS, 1/18/79

Santa Fe County - At the Santa Clara Pueblo, near Los Alamos, AMP Director David Perkins visited the office of the Tribal Police on Friday, May 11th. He inspected their logbook which cited numerous reports of ‘unidentified aircraft’ in Nov. and Dec., 1978. That night, a mutilation occurred on Santa Clara land and, though tribal authorities tried to keep the matter quiet, Gail Olson of the RIO GRANDE SUN was tipped off about it.

…

David Perkins reports that a light meter belonging to a photographer would not work at the site, but functioned perfectly a mile away. The brakes went out on the investigators• car as they drove from the scene. At that time [13 and 14 May 1979], an unmarked, twin-engined airplane circled low over the departing car three times. Additionally, Perkins uncovered a report of a large UFO seen in Santa Clara Canyon by two tribal policemen in early April, 1979. . REVIEWS

UFO TERMS - by Robert Stevenson Somerville - published by UFO Schools, Inc.; P.O. Box 21: Warren, Michigan 48090 – $8.00 (includes postage, handling). ---------------------- In this volume, where the language of ufology is concerned, no stone is left un-termed. Somerville scattershoots through virtually every facet of UFO research. He includes material on mutilations and Project Stigma, while cautioning that not everyone is convinced that mutilations occur, much less that they are linked to UFOs. The author objectively presents arguments for and against the reality of mutes and the UFO connection. The author directs his book to those ‘who do not have the time or inclination to follow the many developments in Ufology, but would like to obtain a basic understanding of the subject’. Somerville's research has been extensive and intensive. UFO TERMS breaks no new speculative ground, but it will prove useful to the armchair browser as well as to the serious researcher desiring to ‘bone up’ on basic ufological concepts. The encyclopedia array of data reminds one of the richness, complexity and confusion inherent in our groping for understanding of the UFO phenomenon and all its tangential aspects. There is a lot of information in the book of potential interest to mutilation researchers - though not necessarily identified as such. UFO TERMS is especially recommended for the beginner~ but there is no reason why veteran researchers should not plan to include it in their library.”

UFO Case Directory (RADCAT):
“Object Just Off The Water /
Radar Tracked From Boat
July 5, 1979
Gulf of Alaska, S. of Seward, Alaska”

(NICAP.org)

The whole UFO case report:
“Carl Feindt:
July 5, 1979 - Gulf of Alaska
2:45 a.m. They were halibut fishing south of Seward, Alaska. A super bright object came down through the clouds and became stationary close to the water. At the same time a target appeared on their radar at about two miles distant, a really strong target. All of a sudden the radar heading was knocked off of its setting and one of the crew had to reset it. It was a bright glowing object with a bowl-like shape which faded out and simultaneously disappeared from the radar screen, then reappeared visually and on radar. The radar heading was knocked off when the object approached the boat. The object was only a couple of feet off the water. The incident lasted for about five minutes and the radar was picking up a strong signal.”

UFO News Article:
“The UFO sighting investigated by the police”

9 November 2019
(BBC News, London, UK)

The Robert Taylor UFO incident occurred in the Dechmont Woods in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland, UK, on 9 November 1979, between approximately 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Wikipedia article: “Robert Taylor incident”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“In ufology, the Robert Taylor Incident, a.k.a. Livingston Incident or Dechmont Woods Encounter is the name given to claims of sighting an extraterrestrial spacecraft on Dechmont Law in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland in 1979 by forester Robert ‘Bob’ Taylor (1919-2007).

When Taylor returned home from a trip to Dechmont Law dishevelled, his clothes torn and with grazes to his chin and thighs, he claimed he had encountered a ‘flying dome’ which tried to pull him aboard. Due to his injuries, the police recorded the matter as a common assault and the incident is popularly promoted as the ‘only example of an alien sighting becoming the subject of a criminal investigation’.[1][2]

Taylor’s story

According to Taylor, a forestry worker for the Livingston Development Corporation, on 9 November 1979, he parked his pickup truck at the side of a road near the M8 motorway and walked along a forest path up the side of Dechmont Law with his dog.

Taylor reported seeing what he described as a ‘flying dome’ or a large, circular sphere approximately 7 yards (6.4 metres) in diameter, hovering above the forest floor in a clearing about 530 yards (480 metres) away from his truck. Taylor described the object as ‘a dark metallic material with a rough texture like sandpaper’ featuring an outer rim ‘set with small propellers’.

Taylor claims he experienced a foul odour ‘like burning brakes’ and that smaller spheres ‘similar to sea mines’ had seized him and were dragging him in the direction of the larger object when he lost consciousness. According to Taylor, he later awoke and the objects were gone, but he could not start his truck, so he walked back to his home in Livingston.[1][2][3]”
