“Residents Report UFOs
Sightings In P’burgh Area”
28 February 1967
(The Post-Standard, Syracuse , New York )
Source: Newspapers.com
The whole article:
“Unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were hovering
about the area again Sunday night [26 February 1967], with multiple - sightings
reported about the same time.
State police and Air Force officials reported most of
the calls from the West End of the city, the airport and West
Plattsburgh .
Callers said an oval of light, considerably larger
than a star, appeared to hover low in the sky west of the city. Some saw
another object with a red light which appeared to be flying around under the
light.
After remaining in the area several minutes, observers
said it blinked from sight.
Air Force officials advised the only aircraft logged
in that part of the sky at the time was a light plane, which was incapable of
hovering.”

“Cole’s Creek Marina – Massena Couple Report Seeing UFO”
24 February 1967
(The Post-Standard, Syracuse , New York )
Source: Newspapers.com
The whole article:
“An unidentified flying object (UFO) was spotted
Wednesday night [22 February 1967]
by a local couple south of Lake
St. Lawrence near
the Cole’s Creek Marina.
Mr. and [Mrs.] Earl Eldridge,14 Bayley Road , saw the object just as
they approached the Marina
from the east while driving to Ogdensburg. Eldridge [was] driving.
Mrs. Eldridge said the
object was rather big.
‘It scared the daylights
out of me. [It] had two flood lights and a small one in the center, like the
lights on a car.’ Mrs. Eldridge stated. It was silver colored, she said.
She said it came so close
she could see the understructure which resembled that of a plane. Mrs. Eldridge
only saw the lower part of the body. When she turned to see [it] after it
passed, it vanished, she related.
Mrs. Eldridge, [whose]
husband is retired from Alcoa, Massena works, said the object did not make a
sound.
State police at the
Massena substation spotted a high, UFO flying east to west on the night of Feb.
17.
Troopers G. A. Matteo and
Keith Bain, followed it from Helena to Norwood , where it was
spotted by other Troopers.”

“FAA CONFIRMS RADAR CASE”
U.F.O. Investigator, March-April 1967, Vol. III, No.
12
(National Investigations Committee on Aerial
Phenomena, Washington , D.C. )
Source: J. Allen
Hynek Center
for UFO Studies (CUFOS.org),
The whole article (Page 6):
“Official confirmation by the FAA of a UFO radar
tracking has been received from Federal Aviation Agency's (FAA) Experimental Center
at Atlantic City , New Jersey . The tracking, confirmed visually,
occurred on the evening of February 24.
‘I can confirm the reported radar tracking of a UFO at
this
Center. . .to the extent that our air traffic facility did have an unidentified target on its radar at the time and in the vicinity a motorist reported a UFO,’ said Public Affairs Officer, E. L. Shoop, Jr., of the Center’s National Aviation Facilities, in a letter to NICAP.
Center. . .to the extent that our air traffic facility did have an unidentified target on its radar at the time and in the vicinity a motorist reported a UFO,’ said Public Affairs Officer, E. L. Shoop, Jr., of the Center’s National Aviation Facilities, in a letter to NICAP.
The motorist is Robert King, a mechanic for Southern
Jersey Airways, who spotted the glowing orange UFO around 10 p.m. while driving
along the Garden State Parkway, about 15 miles south of Atlantic City. Traveling at
an estimated speed of 100 m .p.h.
and altitude of about 1500
feet , the object moved quickly toward the ground and
disappeared. It later reappeared and headed south toward Cape
May .
King then called the FAA and, according to Mr. Shoop,
‘he was informed by the controllers on duty that they did have an unidentified
target at the time and place in question. . .’, but ‘they could not confirm any
erratic maneuvering.’
The witness also said, in a newspaper report, that a
check with Cape May and Atlantic
County airports revealed
no planes had either landed or taken off during the time of the sighting.”

“Area Lawman Sees UFO”
10 February 1967
(Sandusky Register, Ohio )
Source: UFO Newsclipping Service, Edwardsville , Illinois
and AFU.se
Quote from the article (Page 12):
“ ‘I saw a solid, bluish disc, in the opposite
direction of the NASA reactor site. I know enough about physics to judge the
difference between gas and solid matter—I just wish I would have had someone
else with me to prove I saw it.’
THE ABOVE quote is Perkins Constable Gary Butler’s
morning reaction to the unidentified flying object (UFO) he witnessed at
approximately 3:40 a.m. today [10 February 1967] while on
routine patrol.
‘As I was coming over a bridge, I noticed an object in
the sky. At first, I thought it was the Bellevue
railroad lights, but when I drove a little further, I got a better view.
‘THE DISC was approximately two miles from me, I judge
it was about 20 feet
in diameter and approximately 40
feet off the ground. I stopped my car, turned off the
motor, but left my radio turned on—I heard no noise, the object didn’t move.
‘I sat watching it for a few minutes and truthfully, I
was scared. I’ve never seen anything like it before an I newver [sic] want to see anything like it
again. I waited a few minutes and then called the deputies and the patrol.
‘AFTER I made the call, the object which had hovered
for six or seven minutes began to drop out of sight behind an outline of trees.
When the other officers arrived, it was gone.’
…
ON JAN. 30, the Register learned of an [sic] USO [UFO] sighted over the NASA grounds by Reinhardt N. Ausmus, Erie
County Veterans Service Officer and his wife. The couple said they saw the
object, described as a brilliant light, while driving home; they left their car
to watch the object for several minutes. Ausmus is a member of the Early Birds,
a club for World War I aviators.
THE YOUNG officer
explained he was ‘wide awake — I had lots of sleep. I know I
saw something, but I just don’t know what.’ Butler usually makes his patrol with another
officer, but ‘unfortunately, the other officer was not with me last night.’

Constable Gary Butler experienced radio interference
during the UFO sighting, according to the article.
