Quote from the CUFON.org article, “CUFON Principles, Policy and Purpose (and other notes)”:
“The guiding principle which has made CUFON the fine resource which it continues to be is that we post ONLY verified and verifiable material, sometimes with a small comment. Our purpose is to provide solid material from which you can draw your own conclusions. Additionally, any conclusions drawn by readers are their own responsibility, as are ours, which are clearly marked as such when presented. We stand behind what we post, and very much want to keep it that way.

We strongly feel that inclusion of other subject matter, such as ‘new age’ type material, dilutes and damages the validity of the clear evidence of the reality of the UFO phenomenon, often presented in the government’s own words. Therefore, information lacking a recognizable relationship to the subject of UFO will not be posted on CUFON.

Although the verified documents and other solid information CUFON makes freely available may, in many cases, come in the form of government documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, it is not our intention to discredit in any way any branch of the United States armed forces, their officers or personnel.

CUFON operates independently, it is not associated in any way with any other web site, computer bulletin board system, network, information service, or UFO or civilian interest group, and none should be inferred. CUFON may utilize information made available to it at no cost by UFO Reporting and Information Service of Seattle, Washington, USA, and others.”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“Declassified Strategic Air Command Message”
(CUFON.org text)

17 March 1967
(U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.)

Source: Computer UFO Network (CUFON), Seattle, Washington

Quote from the document (not written in U.S. Department of Defense document format):
“ALL TEN MISSILES IN ECHO FLIGHT AT MALMSTROM LOST STRAT ALERT WITHIN TEN SECONDS OF EACH OTHER. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 0845L ON 16 MARCH 67. AS OF THIS DATE, ASS MISSILES HAVE RETURNED TO STRAT ALERT WITH NO APPARENT DIFFICULTY. INVESTIGATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT IS BEING CONDUCTED BY MALMSTROM TEST. TWO FITTS HAVE BEEN RUN THROUGH TWO MISSILES THUS FAR. NO CONCLUSIONS HAVE BEEN DRAWN. THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT BOTH COMPUTERS IN BOTH G&C’S WERE UPSET MOMENTARILY. CAUSE OF THE UPSET IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. ALL OTHER SIGNIFICANT INFORMATION AT THIS TIME IS CONTAINED IN ABOVE REFERENCED MESSAGE, FOR OOAMA. THE FACT THAT NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE LOSS OF TEN MISSILES CAN BE READILY IDENTIFIED IS CAUSE FOR GRAVE CONCERN TO THIS HEADQUARTERS.  WE MUST HAVE AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE CAUSE AND CORRECTIVE ACTION AND WE MUST KNOW AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE WHAT THE IMPACT IS TO THE FLEET, IF ANY. REQUEST YOUR RESPONSE BE IN KEEPING WITH THE URGENCY OF THE PROBLEM. WE IN TURN WILL PROVIDE OUR FULL COOPERATION AND SUPPORT.
FOR OOAMA AND 15AF WE HAVE CONCURRED IN A BOEING REQUEST TO SEND TWO ENGINEERS, MR. R.E RIGERT AND MR. W. M. DUTTON TO MALMSTROM TO COLLECT FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM FOR POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE IN LATER ANALYSIS. REQUEST COOPERATION OF ALL CONCERNED TO PROVIDE THEM ACCESS TO AVAILABLE INFORMATION, I.E., CREW COMMANDERS LOG ENTRIES, MAINTENANCE FORES, INTERROGATION OF KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE, ETC.”

U.S. Government UFO Documents:
“FOO-FIGHTER DOCUMENTS”

(U.S. Army Air Forces, Washington, D.C. and
U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.)

Source: CUFON.org

Text by CUFON.org:
“09-September-1998  The text of several official documents mentioning Foo-Fighters and Foo-Fighter-like phenomena are presented here.

These documents were located, and provided to CUFON, by Barry Greenwood, veteran researcher, for many years the Editor of the widely celebrated bulletin Just Cause, co-author of the breakthrough Clear Intent, and now the Editor of the U.F.O. Historical Review which debuted in June, 1998.

Foo-Fighters are often mentioned in the UFO literature as being among the first modern era sightings of unidentified aerial objects, predating as they do the widely known civilian Arnold sighting of June, 1947.  Seldom however, is documentary evidence of the reality and nature of these sightings presented to support mention of the Foo-Fighters.  While the documents presented herein by no means represent all such material, they are a dramatic insight into the UFOs of the Second World War, and come from both the European and Pacific regions.”

Wikipedia article: “United States Army Air Forces”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The United States Army Air Forces (USAAF or AAF), informally known as the Air Force,[1] was the aerial warfare service of the United States during and immediately after World War II (1939/41–1945), successor to the previous United States Army Air Corps and the direct predecessor of the United States Air Force of today, one of the five uniformed military services. The AAF was a component of the United States Army, which in 1942 was divided functionally by executive order into three autonomous forces: the Army Ground Forces, the Services of Supply (which in 1943 became the Army Service Forces), and the Army Air Forces. Each of these forces had a commanding general who reported directly to the Army Chief of Staff.

The AAF administered all parts of military aviation formerly distributed among the Air Corps, General Headquarters Air Force, and the ground forces’ corps area commanders, and thus became the first air organization of the U.S. Army to control its own installations and support personnel. The peak size of the AAF during the Second World War was over 2.4 million men and women in service and nearly 80,000 aircraft by 1944, and 783 domestic bases in December 1943.[2] By ‘V-E Day’, the Army Air Forces had 1.25 million men stationed overseas and operated from more than 1,600 airfields worldwide.[3]”

The USAAF was disbanded on 18 September 1947.

Wikipedia article: “United States Air Force”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial and space warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces, and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially established as a part of the United States Army on 1 August 1907, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on 18 September 1947 with the passing of the National Security Act of 1947. It is the youngest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the fourth in order of precedence. The USAF is the largest[13] and most technologically advanced[14] air force in the world. The Air Force articulates its core missions as air and space superiority, global integrated ISR, rapid global mobility, global strike, and command and control.

The U.S. Air Force is a military service branch organized within the Department of the Air Force, one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense. The Air Force, through the Department of the Air Force, is headed by the civilian Secretary of the Air Force, who reports to the Secretary of Defense, and is appointed by the President with Senate confirmation. The highest-ranking military officer in the Air Force is the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, who exercises supervision over Air Force units and serves as one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Air Force components are assigned, as directed by the Secretary of Defense, to the combatant commanders, and neither the Secretary of the Air Force nor the Chief of Staff of the Air Force have operational command authority over them.

Along with conducting independent air and space operations, the U.S. Air Force provides air support for land and naval forces and aids in the recovery of troops in the field. As of 2017, the service operates more than 5,369 military aircraft, 406 ICBMs and 170 military satellites. It has a $161 billion budget and is the second largest service branch, with 318,415 active duty personnel, 140,169 civilian personnel, 69,200 Air Force Reserve personnel, and 105,700 Air National Guard personnel.”

U.S. Government UFO Document:
“SUBJECT: Unidentified Flying Objects”

2 December 1952
(Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C.)

Source: NICAP.org

NICAP.org’s introduction to the document:
“December 2, 1952; CIA Memo
An EOTS [Estimate of the Situation] Moment for the CIA.
[H. Marshall] Chadwell told Brad Sparks they concluded that
UFO’s were extraterrestrialthat was what he was telling the
CIA Director in this Dec. 2, 1952, memo.”

My comment:
H. Marshall Chadwell was Assistant Director of the CIA’s Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) in 1952.

The meaning of the acronyms are as follows, according to CUFON.org (http://www.cufon.org/cufon/cia-52-1.htm):

ACRONYM – MEANING – AGENCY
* DCI – Director of Central Intelligence – CIA
* OSI or O/SI – Office of Scientific Intelligence – CIA
* NSCID – National Security Council Intelligence Directive
* DD/I, DDI – Deputy Director for Intelligence – CIA
* AD/SI – Assistant Director/Scientific Intelligence – CIA
* AD/IC – Assistant Director/Intelligence Coordination – CIA
* R&DB (or RDB) – Research and Development Board
* DI/USAF – Directorate (or Director) of Intelligence
   U.S. Air Force
* A-2 – Air Force (air) Intelligence – U.S. Air Force
* ATIC – Air Technical Intelligence Center (Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio) – U.S. Air Force
* DDCI – Deputy Director of Central Intelligence – CIA
* CENIS – MIT Center for International Studies
   (CIA contract agency)

The whole document (not written in Central Intelligence Agency document format):
“MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence

THRU: Deputy Director for Intelligence

1. On 20 August, the DCI, after a briefing by OSI on the above subject, directed the preparation of an NSCID for submission to the Council stating the need for investigation and directing agencies concerned to cooperate on such investigations.

2. In attempting to draft such a directive and the supporting staff studies, it became apparent to DD/I, Acting AD/SI and AD/IC that the problem was largely a research and development problem, and it was decided by DD/I to attempt to initiate action through R&DB. A conference was held between DI/USAF, Chairman of R&DB, DD/I, Acting AD/SI and AD/IC at which time it was decided that Dr. Whitman, Chairman of R&DB, would investigate the possibility of undertaking research and development studies through Air Force agencies.

3. On approximately 6 November, we were advised by Chairman, R&DB, that inquiries in the Air Staff did not disclose ‘undue concern’ over this matter, but that it had been referred to the Air Defense Command for consideration. No further word has been received from R&DB.

4. Recent reports reaching CIA indicated that further action was desirable and another briefing by the cognizant A-2 and ATIC personnel was held on 25 November. At this time, the reports of incidents convince us that there is something going on that must have immediate attention. The details of some of these incidents have been discussed by AD/SI with DDCI. Sighting of unexplained objects at great altitudes and travelling at high speeds in the vicinity of major U.S. defense installations are of such nature that they are not attributable to natural phenomena or known types of aerial vehicles.

5. OSI is proceeding to the establishment of a consulting group of sufficient competence and stature to review this matter and convince the responsible authorities in the community that immediate research and development on this subject must be undertaken. This can be done expeditiously under the aegis of CENIS.”
