Two quoted letters:
“Sirs:
‘Have We Visitors from Space?’ (LIFE, April 7) is the
most comprehensive reports I have read on the subject. I was very closely
associated with Projects ‘Twinkle’ and ‘Grudge’ at Alamogordo , N. Mex. where I was chief of the
technical photographic facility at Holloman Air Force Base. I have seen several
of these objects myself, and they are everything you say they are as to shape,
size and speed.

Sirs:
I first learned about the green fireballs from Marine
Corps night fighter pilots while I was an aviation intelligence officer in Korea .
Pilots often reported seeing strange bright green
objects in the skies, unlike anything they had ever seen before, and moving too
fast and regularly to be exlained or identified or analyzed by the pilots
themselves or the intelligence officers.

“ON THE UFOS”
December 1967
(Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Chicago , Illinois )
Source: Google Books
Quote from the article:
“Dr. (Carl) Sagan claims that the Central Intelligence
Agency Robertson Panel, which met in 1953, concluded after a thorough study that
UFOs, ‘all were probably natural phenomena wrongly interpreted.’ This claim
simplifies the work of the panel to the point of distortion.”
The official name of the Robertson Panel was Scientific
Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects.
The Bulletin article also mentions the 2 July 1952 Tremonton , Utah ,
UFO film (filmed by U.S. Navy Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse).

Ivan T. Sanderson’s Investigative Report
On the 12 September 1952 Flatwoods,
West Virginia, UFO Case
Published on 18 April 2012
(Paranormal TV) (paranormaltvchannel (YouTube channel))
Video text:
“Here’s a video presentation of renowned author,
newspaper & magazine reporter and investigator Ivan Sanderson’s 1953 audio
report (during a radio interview in New
York ) of what he discovered only 1 year earlier in
1952. The Braxton County (West
Virginia ) incident is world famous and continues to
be evaluated with the top UFO investigators. Considered one of the world’s most
unusual happenings, the UFO (sometimes referred to the Braxton County Monster
and not to be confused with that other famous West Virginia monster, ‘The Mothman’) was
seen by at least 14 people. Hear Ivan Sanderson talk about what the kids saw...
and how they (and a dog) reacted. The date was September 12, 1952. What the
boys saw was described as a ‘shooting star’ that fell to earth on the top of
the hill adjacent to the playground. About the length of a football field away,
they all saw an object that was glowing and hissing. Walking closer to check
out the ‘star,’ they noted that it was about 10 feet around. A few feet
away from this glowing object they saw two lights, much like the glow of flashlights,
about 12 inches
apart. One of the boys had a flashlight and when he turned it on the object a
huge creature with ‘...a bright red face, bright green clothing, a head which
resembled the ace of spades, and clothing which, from the waist down, hung in
great folds’ was seen. Newspapers sent special reporters to cover the story.”

Quote from the “RAF Bentwaters” (Wikipedia) article:
“The mission of the 81st FIW (81st Fighter-Interceptor
Wing, U.S. Air Force) was to
provide air defence of the United
Kingdom . It performed this mission jointly
with the RAF, working with No. 11 Group RAF Fighter Command. The wing was the
first unit of F-86’s assigned to NATO and the first foreign air unit to
participate in the peacetime air defence of the United Kingdom .
In October 1954 the mission of the 81st changed from
fighter-interceptor to fighter-bomber operations, carrying both conventional and
nuclear weapons. The wing was charged with tactical operations in support of
USAFE and NATO, with air defence as a secondary mission. To reflect this
change, the unit was redesignated the 81st Fighter-Bomber Wing and traded in
its F-86s for the Republic F-84F
‘Thunderstreak.’
On 8 July 1958 Bentwaters was operated as ‘twin base’ with RAF Woodbridge and as a single unit under the newly designated 81st Tactical Fighter Wing. Along with the 91st and 92nd squadrons, the 78th Tactical Fighter Squadron was transferred from RAF Shepherds Grove when the USAF returned Shepherds Grove to the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The 78th TFS operated from Woodbrige, while the 91st and 92nd squadrons operated from Bentwaters.”

“ ‘OPREP-3’ – A Classified US Military
Reporting Channel For UFO Incidents? – Part 8”
By Paul Dean, 6 December 2016
(UFOs – Documenting The Evidence, Melbourne , Australia )
Quote from the article:
“Previously, in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of this
series, I looked at the US
military’s OPREP–3 reporting system, and, in particular, its use in alerting
top–echelon military commands of serious UFO incidents. During the 1970’s, the
OPREP–3 system was used to convey urgent and current information regarding
perceived UFO activity near a number of United States Air Force (USAF) bases
assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC), as well as a United States Navy
facility. In Part 4, I highlighted a formally classified joint North American
Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) and Aerospace Defence Command (ADCOM) manual
which specifically asked that ‘unidentified flying objects – UFOs’ events be
submitted by regional NORAD Commanders via the OPREP-3 system. In Part 5, Part
6 and Part 7 of this series, I moved away from the reporting of UFOs via the
OPREP–3 system, and began to discuss the US government’s response, concern,
evaluation and investigation of these intrusive aerial events. These alarming
UFO incidents, known euphemistically as the ‘over flights,’ as well as the
widespread reaction they triggered within the US government, can only be studied
through the examination of begrudgingly declassified documents. The release of
these records, which number in the many hundreds, only occurred due to the
implementation of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by a handful of dogged
researchers. In particular, Robert Todd, Barry Greenwood, Lawrence Fawcett and
Todd Zechel spearheaded this extraordinary and voluminous research effort,
often at great cost.
In this Part 8, I will begin to look at how the North
American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) and Aerospace Defence Command
(ADCOM) assessed and responded to the apparent UFO activity during 1975. It is
worth stating that I will soon discuss, at much greater length, NORAD and
ADCOM’s actions in another series of blog posts I author titled ‘NORAD and the
UFO Smokescreen.’ ”

“At least three people – including a National Weather Service meteorologist – reported seeing unusual lights and objects flying or hovering in
early March 1992).
Each of the people who told about the sightings
stopped short of saying they witnessed unidentified flying objects, or UFOs,
but could not explain the phenomena.”
Meteorologist Corey Lefkof saw an orange and red light
(no flashing, just a glow) travelling west to east near the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport
at around 10:30 p.m.
Lydia Kaplan, a Herald-Journal secretary, saw a disk above the tree line in the western sky at around 4:30 a.m.
Ann Sellers, a Spartanburg
bookkeeper, and her husband were driving on Interstate 26 near Landrum when she
saw a pulsing, bright, white light which moved erratically in the eastern sky.
