UFO News Article (Blog):
“Another hat in the ring”

By Billy Cox, 7 July 2020
(De Void, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Florida)

Billy Cox writes about U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Larry “Kimo” Rider’s UFO sighting.

Quote from the article:
“He can’t remember the exact date it happened. It was sometime between the death of his first wife in 1992 and his remarriage in 1996. He suspects 1994, maybe ’95. He was living in Phoenix. He was in the back yard of his condo, well before the March 13, 1997, ‘Phoenix Lights’ incident set switchboards ablaze and made national headlines. It was late summertime, maybe. August? 9 p.m.? Dusk, anyway. He was taking a cigar break.

It wasn’t an airplane, or at least, not like anything Rider had seen before. What he saw were extremely bright lights, 10, 15, maybe 20, arrayed in an absolutely silent, rigid, V-shaped formation; from his angle, they appeared to be lining the underbelly of a flying machine whose other details were indiscernible. The lights reminded him of halogen lamps.

Rider guesses the thing was two to three miles away and, judging from the spread of the lights, maybe twice or three times the size of a Boeing 747. As it began to bank left, to the northeast, it was flying so low – 2,000 feet, maybe – that ‘no pilot in his right mind is going to maneuver a plane that big that far away from an airport,’ Rider recalls. Phoenix’s Sky Harbor airport was a good 10 miles off.”

UFO news article:
“Residents report odd lights”

17 November 1994
(The Taos News, New Mexico)

The whole article:
“If you happened to be outside at night last September and saw a strange glowing object moving across the sky, you were not alone.

People from New Mexico to Alaska have reported seeing a large number of unidentified flying objects, enough to be called a major ‘flap’ by officials of the UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington.

Incidents were reported above Amor Lane near Taos High School and at other areas in Taos in September, according to a story in the Monday (Nov. 14) issue of The Santa Fe New Mexican.

Maida Martinez, her husband Toby, and Eric Tafoya of Taos all reported seeing an object described as a ‘bright, white light, accompanied by about a dozen smaller lights’ flying low over populated areas of Taos.

Air Force bases in New Mexico and the Federal Aviation Administration in Albuquerque declined to comment on the sightings.

Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado have bee the center of dozens of UFO sightings since the late 1960s, some apparently linked to reports of cattle mutilations.”

UFO Article:
“UFO’s On Radar”

By Micah Hanks, 26 March 2017
(KGRA Digital Broadcasting, Ogden, Utah)

In this article, Hanks mentions the 13-14 August 1956 RAF Bentwaters, UK; December 1980 Rendlesham Forest, UK (RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge); 8 March 1994 South West Michigan and 14 December 1994 Trumbull County, Ohio, radar UFO incidents.

Quote from the article:
“To end on a hopeful note, in instances where radar traces match the visual record of objects seen within a given timeframe and vicinity, one would hope that having both sets of data, at least in circumstances where visual conditions are favorable, might lend credence to the idea that physical objects were indeed present, at least in some of the better UFO reports involving radar over the years.”

From Michael D. Swords’ 2012 article about the 8 March 1994 South West Michigan UFO case (thebiggeststudy.blogspot.com
(I report about this article on 15 August 2017):
“The map at the left [the above map] shows the approximate locations of the NOAA radar station [at ‘A’], the most famous of the observations [by the Graves family, at the pink dewdrop], and several of the other reported sightings, marked with yellow circles, all of which were reported as happening at or VERY near 9:30pm. Rather astonishing. And I believe a little known fact about this case. It was as if Western Michigan ‘lit up’ with UFOs at the same time.”

UFO Report:
“The 1980 UFO Chronology”

Created: 15 November 2007
Updated: 6 December 2016
(NICAP.org)

Quote from the UFO report:
“Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1980 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]). You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members: William Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns).

Francis Ridge
NICAP Site Coordinator

Aug. 3, 1980; Norton AFB, San Bernardino, CA
9:00 PM. Three airmen and five civilians at separate locations sighted an object that looked like a ‘metallic balloon’ with two flat sides, according to a base spokesman. The airmen, who observed it through binoculars, said it was a ‘highly reflective metallic color.’ It either landed or hovered just above a grassy area near a taxiway on the base. Then it took off and flew away at an estimated 30-40 m.p.h. A little later six residents of the Highland area saw an object of the same description as it flew north and eventually passed over the San Bernardino Mountains. The witnesses called the sheriff’s department, and reported that the object was flying on a straight course about 200-300 feet above the ground. About an hour later  a sheriff’s helicopter flew to the area to investigate, but saw nothing. No radar tracking were reported. (Riverside Enterprise, Aug. 6, 1980)”

Wikipedia article: “Norton Air Force Base”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“Norton Air Force Base (IATA: SBD) (1942–1994) was a United States Air Force facility 2 miles (3.2 km) east of downtown San Bernardino, California, in San Bernardino County.

Overview

For the majority of its operational lifetime, Norton was a logistics depot and heavy-lift transport facility for a variety of military aircraft, equipment and supplies as part of Air Materiel/Air Force Logistics Command (1946–1966), then as part of Military Airlift/Air Mobility Command (1966–1994).

Major secondary missions of Norton Air Force Base was as Headquarters Air Defense Command for Southern California, during the 1950s and 1960s. The Air Force Audio-Visual Center produced air force films for training and public relations. The Air Force Now film, shown at monthly commander’s calls at air force bases around the world was produced at Norton. Norton hosted numerous Air Force Reserve transport units. The Office of the Inspector General was located at Norton, as was the Directorate of Aerospace Safety and the Air Force Audit Agency Headquarters.

Norton AFB was closed in 1994 as a result of Base Realignment and Closure action 1988.”

“UFOs Seen by Crew of an American
Aircraft-Carrier (1952 - 1958)”

By Chester C. Grusinski (Michigan, U.S.A.), 25 August 1994

Quote from the letter:
“Dear Mr. Creighton.
Would you be interested in details of several UFO sightings by crew members of the U.S. Navy’s 45,000 ton aircraft-carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42.

I was myself a member of her crew from 1958 to 1960, and I was one of the many eyewitnesses in one of the UFO sightings, in September or October of 1958.”

“Teen reports watching UFO for 3 hours”

1 September 1994
(Reading Eagle, Pennsylvania)

Carmen Utter sighted a UFO over Berlin Heights (Ohio) on
29 August 1994, at around 10:30 p.m., the Reading Eagle reports:

Quote from the article:
“Carmen Utter, 15, said she heard a loud noise like the wind, but did not see any signs of wind.

Utter’s reported sighting was the latest in a series of UFO sightings in Erie County in recent years. Most of the sightings were centered near Perkins Township and occurred in the summer.

‘It was pretty big – bigger than an airplane, about the same size as a blimp,’ she said.

She said she saw red, green and white lights going around like a beacon.

Her parents also saw the object and reported it to the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.

A sheriff’s deputy responding to the call also saw the brightly lighted object.”
