The Question of U.S. Government UFO Interest

The U.S. politician who deserves most credit when it comes to the UFO issue is former U.S. President Gerald R. Ford (Republican). In 1966, while Ford was a Representative for Michigan and U.S. House of Representatives Republican Minority Leader, he managed to get the House Armed Services Committee to hold a Congressional Hearing on UFOs on 5 April 1966.

So many top U.S. government politicians have had a great interest in the UFO phenomenon, but have ultimately failed to acquire classified U.S. government UFO evidence.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter (Democrat) also failed to acquire classified UFO evidence.

Then how interested are the main U.S. government departments/agencies (Department of Defense, Department of State, CIA, FBI, NSA and NRO) in the UFO phenomenon today? And do these departments/agencies still investigate UFO cases?

The U.S. Air Force and other U.S. government departments/agencies claim time and again that they haven’t investigated a single UFO case since 17 December 1969.

"Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs)

This issue is no longer being investigated by the Defense Department. As you may know, the United States Air Force began investigating UFOs in 1948 under a program called Project Sign. Later the program's name was changed to Project Grudge, and in 1953 it was changed again to Project Blue Book. On December 17, 1969, the Secretary of the Air Force announced the termination of Project Blue Book.

The decision to discontinue UFO investigations was based on a number of factors, including reports and studies by the University of Colorado and the National Academy of Sciences, as well as past UFO studies and the Air Force's two decades of experience investigating UFO reports.

As a result of these investigations, studies, and experience, the conclusions of Project Blue Book were:

* No UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.

* There has been no evidence submitted to or discovered by the Air Force that sightings categorized as "unidentified" represent technological developments or principles beyond the range of present-day scientific knowledge.

* There has been no evidence indicating that sightings categorized as "unidentified" are extraterrestrial vehicles.

Between 1948 and 1969 the Air Force investigated 12,618 reported UFO sightings. Of these, 11,917 were found to have been caused by material objects such as balloons, satellites, and aircraft; immaterial objects such as lightning, reflections, and other natural phenomena; astronomical objects such as stars, planets, the sun, and the moon; weather conditions; and hoaxes. Only 701 reported sightings remain unexplained.

All documentation regarding the former Blue Book investigation was permanently transferred to the Military Reference Branch, National Archives and Records Administration, 8th and Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC 20408, and is available for public review. A list of private organizations interested in aerial phenomena can be found in Gale's Encyclopedia of Associations, available in the reference section of many libraries. Air Force Fact Sheets on this topic may be viewed, including one about the so-called Roswell Incident . The Naval Historical Center has compiled a bibliography."

But if you click on the below web links, you’ll see that the U.S. government in actuality hasn’t stopped investigating UFOs post 1969.

Colonel Haynes was also asked several questions about UFOs in general. And he answered that he personally does not believe that UFOs exist, that the U.S. government does not investigate UFO cases any longer and that he didn’t believe that the U.S. government would investigate UFOs in the future.

This begs the question: Why then have the U.S. Air Force (!!), U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, DIA, CIA, FBI, NSA and NRO released thousands of UFO documents which are dated after 17 December 1969?

Aren’t these released U.S. government UFO FOIA documents bona fide proof of ongoing U.S. government UFO investigations and interest?!

If the U.S. government's UFO investigations had ended on 17 December 1969, you shouldn’t have found a single U.S. government UFO document dated after the aforementioned date!

This news report sort of takes a look at the UFO evidence. And MSNBC must get credit for reporting on the Milton Torres UFO incident and the UFO statement by Edgar Mitchell.

But why doesn't MSNBC for instance report on the U.S. government UFO documents that show that the White House, Joint Chiefs of Staff (the U.S. military) and the U.S. intelligence agencies all investigated (and no doubt cooperated) the case of the 1976 Tehran, Iran Fighter Jets UFOs encounter?

Here is one U.S. government document pertaining to this UFO case that shows which U.S. government agencies that received the document:

And at the end of the document one can see that this UFO incident wasn't treated in a casual manner by the U.S. government. The order, "PRIORITY" gives a loud and clear message to the government officials.

I guess the U.S. government didn't end its UFO investigations in December 1969 after all.

Dateline NBC broadcasted the UFO report, “10 Close Encounters Caught on Tape” on 18 May 2008; but the MSM news media corporations never show a U.S. government UFO document in their UFO TV reports.

So why doesn't the MSM crowd look at the best UFO evidence available?

The digitized version of the catalog would not have happened at all without the suggestion of Brad Sparks and the acquisition of clean, clear copies of the AFOSI catalog from Jan Aldrich. The AFOSI entries are brief and listed just as they were translated unless the full report documents have been retrieved from the Blue Book Archives. In that case any errors in the 209 case AFOSI Summary will be corrected.

In July 1947, George Garrett was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Air Forces Intelligence’s Collections Division in the Pentagon. Garrett was the main assistant to the Division’s chief, Colonel Robert Taylor, according to the book, UFOs and Government: A Historical Inquiry (Page 36).

April 27, 1950. Holloman AFB, Alamogordo, New Mexico (BBU)

While preparing for an MX-776A Shrike air-to-ground missile test Charles Riggs and other members of USAF contractor Land-Air, Inc., Askania theodolite crews saw, tracked, filmed 4 high flying objects on a cinetheodolite at station P-10 and a theodolite at station M-7. Triangulation resulted in 30 ft size and 150,000 ft altitude for the ‘high speed’ objects located between Holloman AFB and Tularosa Peak.

Timothy Good:

Todd Zechel claims that photographic evidence found missing from the Air Force Project Blue Book files eventually found its way to the CIA’s Office of Scientific Intelligence in the 1950s, and specifies a number of movie films taken at White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico: a cinetheodolite film taken by a camera tracking station on 27 April 1950; a cinetheodolite film taken by two camera stations on 29 May 1950, allegedly showing two huge UFOs traveling at 2,000 mph; and a 35mm film taken by a military pilot on 14 July 1951. Brad Sparks:

The Holloman Data Reduction Unit report by mathematician Wilbur Mitchell stated that the speed was high but indeterminable. Evidently they just did not want to state an outlandish number. Presumably they had seconds not minutes of film of high angular velocity objects so a slow-moving Skyhook is ruled out -- also there were 4 objects close enough together that they were all within the FOV, so that also eliminates a single Skyhook (I really doubt that they would not know of Skyhook launches from their own base). Only other possibility is daylight meteors but 150,000 feet (30 miles) is way too low and they should have dropped to earth and burned up not, as what apparently happened, took off in powered flight. (See BB documents below) Oder himself is quoted in the AF documents in 1951 as pushing for Mirarchi's federal prosecution on grounds that Mirarchi had allegedly revealed classified SPEED-ALTITUDE tracking data on UFO’s. That proves that Oder and AFCRL back in 1951 KNEW there was a SUCCESSFUL TRIANGULATION at White Sands, and one so important that they went to the extreme lengths of trying to get Mirarchi thrown in prison in order to maintain the coverup!”

To AFOSI concerning the latest Green Fireball incident seen over several states on Jan 30, 1949. ‘All out investigation OK’ed by OSI’ says the handwritten notation of Feb 4, 1949. LaPaz investigated and determined the Green Fireball had a 140+ mile trajectory from near Amarillo to near Lamesa, Texas, at a multiply triangulated altitude of about 60,000 to 40,000 feet at a velocity of 25,000 to 50,000 mph -- an absolute physical impossibility for a meteor.  No traces were found despite LaPaz and AFOSI plowing through miles of Texas mud looking for fragments. The order of February 11, 1949, that changed the name of Project Sign to Project Grudge had not directed any change in the operating policy of the project. It had, in fact, pointed out that the project was to continue to investigate and evaluate reports of sightings of unidentified flying objects. In doing this, standard intelligence procedures would be used. This normally means the unbiased evaluation of intelligence data. But it doesn’t take a great deal of study of the old UFO files to see that standard intelligence procedures were no longer being used by Project Grudge. Everything was being evaluated on the premise that UFO's couldn’t exist. No matter what you see or hear, don’t believe it. (Ruppelt) [Correction: The order changing SIGN to GRUDGE was dated Dec 16, 1948, by AF Dir of R&D Gen Donald Putt, not made effective until Feb 12, 1949, after SIGN's Final Report was issued Feb 11. Detection of UFOs by Geiger Counters - BB Archive Correspondence

In regard to the 14 & 17 & 21 Oct 1949 sightings at Mt. Palomar Observatory in the NICAP chronology and Sparks’ ‘BB Unknowns’ list, the 25 Nov 1949 ‘case’ in the Blue Book Archive is not a ‘case’ occurring on 25 Nov 1949 but the date the document was written and it contains some material on this incident. It is not actually a case file, but a collection of correspondence (47 documents) related to the potential detection of atomic powered UFOs by Geiger counter equipment, which was put together in 1952. There are several pages about the events and witnesses at Mt. Palomar.

Secret (1952) Document Mentions Correlation Between Sightings and Rise in Radiation

It was found that in October 1949 such an incident occurred at the Mt. Palomar Observatory and that the Navy had investigated them (21 incidents). (NARA-PBB85 762, 766 - Fran Ridge)

This was both the GRUDGE codename AND final report (Technical Report) that were not released and remained classified SECRET until Aug 1, 1952, and even then no one knew it was declassified except possibly Donald Keyhoe and Leon Davidson.”

As can be seen in this report, Killeen Base (designated as West Fort Hood in October 1969), Texas, was totally inundated with UFO sightings during March-July 1949.
