UFO News Article:
“New Series Of Sightings Of UFOs Here”
2 April 1977
(The Gettysburg Times, Pennsylvania)
The whole article:
“Burton Woods jumped from his bed when he heard it
coming. He raced to the porch of his home and watched the tear-shaped flying
object hover nearby for about five minutes.
‘It had a high-pitched whine, like when you twirl a
rope over your head,’ said Woods.
Then he snapped some pictures of what he thought was the
Goodyear blimp.
‘But when I got a real good look at it, I realized it
was like nothing I had ever seen before in my life.’
TO DEVELOP FILM
Woods is the latest north-central Pennsylvania
resident to report sighting an unidentified flying object (UFO).
The film he shot from his mobile home in Clearfield
County was turned over to the Pennsylvania Center for UFO Research here, which
is looking into a series of UFO sightings in the area last week. It will be
developed over the weekend.
Woods described the object as having the shape of a teardrop,
about 150 to 200 feet
long.
BELIEVES HIS STORY
‘It was a brownish-gray color and had a bright glossy
green panel on the bottom. I got so close I could have clobbered it with a
baseball,’ said Woods, who never believed in UFO’s before.
‘We feel he really did see an unidentified craft,’
said Joan Jeffers, executive director of the Pittsburgh group, which is allied
with the National Center for UFO Study in Illinois.
‘Intuitively I feel the man is telling the truth
because most people are not very well versed on the effects of close encounters
with UFOs,’ she said.
AFTER EFFECTS
Among the after-effects Woods described were
headaches, blurred vision and general fatigue.
‘Based on information gathered over the years by other
people who say they have been exposed to UFOs, these symptoms are typical,’
Mrs. Jeffers added.
Last week scores of people in the Punxsutawney-Dubois
area reported strange lights and objects. A number of state police officers,
including one who followed an object and watched it for about a half-hour, were
among those reporting the sightings.”
