Not only have the FBI and CIA investigated UFOs, but both agencies have actively tried to conceal this from the public. Dr. Bruce Maccabee, U.S. research physicist, joined George Knapp to discuss his study of FOIA releases and document leaks, which, when combined with evidence collected by Air Force Intelligence, prove that at least some UFOs are interplanetary craft, he believes. He learned the FBI vacillated on their responses to UFOs, at times claiming they were Soviet missiles, other times suggesting they were all explainable phenomena. Under Hoover, the FBI could be highly interested in Air Force UFO reports, going so far as to investigate military UFO witnesses, then at other periods showing no interest in the subject at all, Maccabee recounted.”

“1. Per request of A. O. Mirarchi, during recent visit to this base, the following information is submitted.

2. Sightings were made on 27 April and 24 May 1950 of aerial phenomena during morning daylight hours at this station. The sightings were made by Land-Air, Inc., personnel while engaged in tracking regular projects with Askania Phototheodolites. It has been reported that objects are sighted in some number; as many as eight have been visible at one time. The individuals making these sightings are professional observers – therefore I would rate their reliaibility [sic] superior. In both cases photos were taken with Askanias.

3. The Holloman AF Base Data Reduction Unit analyzed the 27 April pictures and made a report, a copy of wich I am enclosing with the film for your information. It was believed that triangulation could be effected from pictures taken on 24 May because pictures were taken from two stations. The films were rapidly processed and examined by Data Reduction. However, it was determined that sightings were made on two different objects and triangulation could not be effected. A report from Data Reduction and the films from the sighting are enclosed.

4. There is nothing further to report at this time.”

The cover letter was sent to Commanding Officer, AF Cambridge Research Laboratory, Attn: Base Directorate, Geophysical Research, 230 Albany St., Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is not known who wrote the cover letter, according to Dr. Bruce Maccabee. Quote from Dr. Bruce Maccabee’s paper, NCP-12: The White Sands Proof (nicap.org): “The writer of this cover letter is not known (no signature). It might have been the Lt. Alpert mentioned below.”

In this paper, Dr. Bruce Maccabee writes about the “green fireball”/unidentified flying object incidents that occurred at sensitive Top Secret nuclear weapon research facilities/

installations in the south western part of the United States during 1948-1950.

It was the areas around Los Alamos, New Mexico; Sandia Base (Kirtland AFB) near Albuquerque, New Mexico; the White Sands Proving Ground (Holloman AFB, Alamogordo) in New Mexico and (after a while) Killeen Base (Killeen, Texas) (a nuclear weapon storage site located at Fort Hood) that experienced the UFO overflights.

“Fran Ridge:

The ConAC Air Defense Controller notified the HQ USAF that a number of unidentified aircraft were approaching the northeast area of the United States and that there was no reason to believe they were friendly. By radar contact it was determined that approximately 40 aircraft were in the flight at 32,000 feet on a course of 200 degrees in the vacinity [sic] of Limestone, Maine. The emergency alert procedure went into effect immediately.

Bruce Maccabee:

Dec. 6, 1950; Northeast Area of the United States

10:30 a.m. For an hour the United States military was under a condition of national emergency. Two days later the FBI was informed that the Army’s Counter Intelligence Corps had been placed on Immediate High Alert for any information related to flying saucers. Were these two documented events related?”
