20 March 1950
(St. Petersburg Times, Florida )
Quote from the article:
“The Air Force wearily repeated its opinion yesterday–flying
saucers are only figments of the imagination.
In Pittsburgh ,
Herb Morrison, a former lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and a pilot for 20
years, said, ‘I didn’t believe in flying
saucers until I saw them.’
Morrison said he saw five saucers one day while
playing golf with six friends.
‘They were definitely not airplanes and two of them
even appeared to be flying loose formation,’ he said.”

1. Reference: Section VIII, paragraph 73b, AR 380-5.
2. The following report of unidentified objects by
Norman H. Brown, Acting Chief, Review and Analysis Section, AEC, has been
received from the Senior Instructor, USAR Instructor Group, Oak Ridge , Tennessee ,
and is transmitted herewith in accordance with directive cited in paragraph 1,
above:
‘At approximately 3:00 P.M. on July 19, 1953, an F-86
aircraft was observed flying over the Oak Ridge residential area, making
circles at what appeared to the writer to be approximately 2,500 or 3,500 feet . The F-86
flew over the area in this manner for approximately ten or fifteen minutes. The
writer, together with his wife, observed the aircraft through a pair of six
power field glasses. After the aircraft flew in what appeared to be the
direction of Knoxville , Tennessee , a black object moved out of a
high white cloud, directly over the area the F-86 had been flying. This object
began to travel, at a tremendous speed, in a large circle. This action on the
part of the unknown object continued for at least five minutes. During the
circle of this object, it appeared at times to be in the shape of a cigar and
at other times round.’
‘This object was extremely black in color, having an
appearance of a deep black metal exterior with a fine gloss. It did not leave a
vapor trail or were there any lights of shine noticed. No sound was heard. The
object flew east at a tremendous speed for what appeared to be approximately
three miles where it stopped. The object was then joined by two more of these
same objects. A formation similar to a spread ‘V’ was formed and the objects,
at a tremendous speed flew in an eastward direction.’

“Holland, MI Radar-Visual UFO Case, part two.”
By Dr. Michael D. Swords, 26 April 2012
(The Big Study)
Quote from the article:
“In part two of this legendary saga, I'm going to try
to sketch out how CUFOS and I got involved with the case. That involvement
ultimately led to the publication of our findings in the article in the International
UFO Reporter above. Those findings encompassed only a small, albeit vital,
portion of the case, as other investigators allegedly were getting the mass of
the on-the-ground fieldwork data. As said in part one, it turns out that those ‘other’
researchers were either NOT getting the fieldwork data or that data was never
utilized and promulgated to the rest of us. We didn't know that at the time, of
course.
CUFOS got word of this explosion of UFOs over Western Michigan at about the same time that everyone
else did, but CUFOS was by that time in its history no longer an organization
which did onsite fieldwork except in very special circumstances. Still, CUFOS
Director, Mark Rodeghier, decided that this one sounded like we should at least
we should dip our toe in the water. He knew that I was not a field researcher,
but that I had a friend, an old NICAP member, who used to do that. So that's
who he called. My friend began looking into this.
It was instantly obvious that a chaotic circus had
immediately commenced. Witnesses, other than the Graves
family, were being assaulted in paparazzi fashion and being turned off
everywhere. The 911 operator told my friend that he knew of a few witnesses who
had seen quite a bit, but who had told him that under no circumstances was he
to let out their names. One guy was an ex-USAF colonel who lived south along
the coast and who would have been a superior addition to the story. But no way.
The NOAA station manager had told everyone flat that
there would be no interviewing any station personnel especially the night
operator who took the 911 call. They wanted none of the grief. My friend made
contact not only with them [briefly] but went on to talk with NOAA HQ in Washington DC .
He made a good impression. Ultimately they called him back and said that he
could have the only interview with the staff, BUT he would have to bring that
WMU science professor with him when he came [he'd played my ‘PhD card’ to them
over the phone]. So I was stuck with a field investigation if we wanted access.”

“Holland MI Radar-Visual UFO Case,
March 8, 1994, part one:”
By Dr. Michael D. Swords, 24 April 2012
(The Big Study)
Quote from the article:
“This entry if it ever sees the light of e-space is
supposed to be about the Holland ,
MI radar case. That case is the
only true UFO case of which I ever participated in an investigation. It
surprised me when I searched this blog and found that I apparently never told
the story. So, here goes.
The newspaper article at the top is one of probably
hundreds which reported these events, and as you veterans know, it made
international news due to the involvement of the Muskegon MI NOAA radar station
which watched odd things on their scope in real time, all the while being
recorded by the 911 operator in Ottawa
County .
The map at the left [at least I hope that it ends up
somewhere in the vicinity] shows the approximate locations of the NOAA radar
station [at ‘A’], the most famous of the observations [by the Graves family, at
the pink dewdrop], and several of the other reported sightings, marked with
yellow circles, all of which were reported as happening at or VERY near 9:30pm.
Rather astonishing. And I believe a little known fact about this case. It was
as if Western Michigan ‘lit up’ with UFOs at
the same time.”

The March 1994 (most of the UFO sightings were made on

“NSA Fully Releases ‘UFOs and the IC
Blind Spot’ Doc Following FOIA Request”
10 August 2017
(The UFO Trail (ufotrail.blogspot.com))
Quote from the article:
“We first explored the doc, composed at some point
prior to 1979 by an unnamed author, here at The UFO Trail in the January blog
post, NSA UFO Docs. Two redacted sections of the seven-page file were noted.
The first section provided an example of how human response to perceived
unusual phenomena can be detrimental, particularly from a military perspective.
Images below show previously redacted pages on the left, with the now fully
disclosed pages on the right.
Offering an example of detrimental responses, the
author explained how a USAF technician ‘was engaged in first level traffic
analysis and intercept processing against Soviet Bloc countries,’ when one of
the countries began to report an unusual radar track. It was described as ‘a
high flying fast moving object with an erratic flight pattern.’ Although
identified as occasionally moving against the wind, the Bloc ‘began reporting
the object as a balloon.’
‘The next Bloc nation picked up the object and
continued the designation of balloon despite the erratic flight pattern, high
speed, and against the wind maneuvers,’ the author continued.
It was further explained that the airman noted a
variety of emotional reactions taking place among personnel within the American
processing facility. Such reactions included ‘everyone was more edgy and silent
than usual,’ as well as ‘aggressive and distracted responses’ to requests for
clarification of some of the data.”
My comment:
My comment:
The previously redacted part (the U.S. Air Force
intelligence traffic intercept) of the NSA UFO document is very interesting
(and revealing) on four counts.
1. The U.S.
Air Force intercepted two Soviet Bloc countries’ intelligence traffic and
surveilled how the Soviet Bloc countries’ military or intelligence (or both) communities
handled a UFO incident.
2. The psychological reaction of the U.S. Air Force
personnel shows that the people in the room were fully aware that the incident
was a bona fide UFO incident (not a balloon incident).
3. The NSA was previously unwilling to declassify the
portion of the document that deals with the U.S. Air Force’s surveillance of
the UFO incident.
4. This is without a doubt not the only UFO incident information
the U.S.
military intelligence community has picked up while intercepting another
country’s intelligence traffic.
