UFO News Article:
“UFOs Reported In LA Area”

23 March 1977
(The Times, San Mateo, California)

Source: NewspaperArchive.com

The whole article:
“Police, sheriff’s deputies, highway patrol officers and Air Force guards reported a rash of UFO sightings in Southern California — at least seven in a 9-hour period.

The law enforcement officers reported mysterious bright lights that hovered, cruised and zoomed in the skies over Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

All the sightings were reported Monday night [21 March 1977] and early Tuesday [22 March 1977].

A Los Angeles Sheriff’s helicopter crew — Raymond Davis, 39, and Theodore Roach, 40 — said they were about 600 feet over La Mirada Monday night when they observed two lights in the Whittier Hills area.

They tried to follow them at 80 miles an hour but the objects were faster.

About eight hours later, at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, security guards at March Air Force Base in the desert 50 miles east of Los Angeles reported mysterious bright lighted objects in the sky.

Nearby, two Highway Patrol officers, Robert Scholl and L. Orchard, noted in their log ‘a bright light with a vapour trail’ that hovered over the Box Springs Canyon area north of the air base in Riverside County.

At the same time and 50 miles to the west, Los Angeles [Sheriff’s] Deputies Lonnie Hicks, 28, and Robert Carr, 34, said they saw a bright light following another light through the sky over Firestone. A resident in the area called the sheriff’s station to report the same objects, deputies said.

About 10 minutes later and 12 miles to the south, Deputy John McSorley at the sheriff’s helicopter station at Long Beach reported two mysterious bright lights eastbound over the airfield.

Another 12 miles to the southwest, and five minutes later, two objects were reported by police in Huntington Beach.

About the same time, officers in Ventura County, some 60 miles to the northwest, reported similar sightings.

Sgt. Vincent Rupp, monitoring radio traffic at the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station, said there were many radio reports of such sightings between 3:45 and 4 a.m. in Southern California and some from as far away as Salinas.”

Wikipedia article: “March Air Reserve Base”:

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“March Air Reserve Base (IATA: RIV, ICAO: KRIV, FAA LID: RIV) (March ARB), previously known as March Air Force Base (March AFB) is located in Riverside County, California between the cities of Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Perris. It is the home to the Air Force Reserve Command’s Fourth Air Force (4 AF) Headquarters and the host 452d Air Mobility Wing (452 AMW), the largest air mobility wing of the Fourth Air Force.[3] In addition to multiple units of the Air Force Reserve Command supporting Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command and Pacific Air Forces, March ARB is also home to units from the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, California Air National Guard and the California Army National Guard. For almost 50 years, March AFB was a Strategic Air Command base during the Cold War. The facility covers 2,075 acres (840 ha) of land.[2]”

UFO News Article:
“Mutilations – what’s the answer? -
Predators …or UFOs?”

2 November 1980
(The Greeley Daily Tribune, Colorado)

Sources: U.F.O. Newsclipping Service, Plumerville, Arkansas and AFU.se

Quote from the article (Page 19):
“The call comes into the sheriff’s office shortly after 8 a.m. on a bright, sunny, summer morning. The caller is a rancher from a remote part of the county. He tells the sheriff or a member of the investigations department of the sheriff’s office that he has just found a cow in a pasture a mile or so away from the home headquarters of the ranch.

The cow has been mutilated.

That scene has been repeated thousands of times over the past five to six years in at least 40 states and foreign countries, according to David Perkins, director of Animal Mutilations Probe, based in Farisita, about 20 miles northwest of Walsenburg in south-central Colorado.

Perkins is one of a handful of private investigators who has devoted countless hours in the investigation of the mysterious circumstances surrounding mutilations. County sheriffs in most States west of the Mississippi River have put in several hundred hours probing the incidets, which usually involve a cow with part or all of the senses organs, i.e., an eye, the tongue, and an ear, as well as the reproductive organs, missing.

Usually, there is no sign of struggle, the body will be void of blood and there will be no blood where the animals have been cut. And there are no tracks around the animal, other than its own.

Predators often don’t touch the carcass of the animal, and, in some cases, the carcass seems to decompose much faster than what is normal.

Evidence is scarce.

One outcome of the New Mexico conference (a three-day convention in Albuquerque in April 1979) was a $50,000 government grant to study mutilations. A retired FBI investigator spent not quite a year investigating and determined that animals died of natural causes. Predators were deemed responsible for the disfigurations on the carcasses.

Perkins and (Tom) Adams disputed the conclusion, suggesting instead that unidentified flying objects are involved.

Adams has compiled a catalog of some 200 mutilation incidents that involved flying objects. Some sightings on Adams’ list occurred in northern Colorado in 1975.

On the night of Aug. 21, 1975, officers from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department spent more than five hours chasing unidentified aircraft. The chase began when a helicopter sighting was reported at about 10 p.m. near Stoneham, in extreme eastern Weld.

During the next five hours reports of similar sightings ranged from north of New Raymer, to Merino, Peetz, and Kimball and Bushnell, Neb. The sightings finally died out early the morning of Aug. 22 near Carpenter, Wyo.

On Aug. 25, 1975, more ‘helicopter’ sightings were reported and a mutilated yearling heifer was discovered in Adams County.

On Sept. 3, 1975, the Weld Sheriff’s Department received a report of helicopter sightings northeast of Cornish and when officers responded, at least five distinctive aircraft were sighted, with at least two believed to be helicopters.

At approximately the same time, a New Raymer rancher reported seeing a helicopter land in an arroyo on his ranch. The craft was later seen taking off and leaving the area, flying in a northwest direction.

The next morning, Sept. 4, 1975, a mutilated heifer was discovered near Briggsdale, just north of Cornish.”

The article also reports on the animal mutilation investigation work of Dr. Henry Montheith, engineering physicist at Sandia Labs, a government research area in New Mexico. Montheith revealed that Soviet scientists had queried him about his animal mutilation investigations.

UFO News Article:
“Deltonan, Deputies Report UFO Sighting”

4 March 1976
(Daytona Beach Morning Journal, Florida)

The whole article:
“An unidentified flying object, ‘neither an airplane nor a star,’ was sighted in Southwest Volusia Monday (2 February 1976) by several persons, including two sheriff’s deputies.

A Deltona woman was apparently the first to sight the object and she notified the sheriff’s office at 5:49 a.m., according to a report released by the sheriff’s office Tuesday.

Two deputies on routine patrol near Taylor Road south of DeLand, heard the call. They pulled over and watched the object through field glasses for 20 minutes as it moved about the southern sky.

‘It was very strange,’ said Deputy Richard Samuels, who watched the UFO with his partner, Deputy L. R. Schneider. Samuels said there were two objects about treetop level and they seemed to change color, climb, come together, separate and finally stablize.

Samuels said his shift commander, Sgt. Ben Johnson, also viewed the UFO as did Florida Highway Patrol personnel in DeLand.

The object was reported to the control tower at Daytona Beach Regional Airport, according to the report, and the sheriff’s office was told it was ‘neither an airplane nor a star.’

The FHP sighting could not be confirmed and Bert Chambers, head of traffic control at the airport, said there was nothing in his logs about a UFO Monday.

A Deltona resident, Winifred C. Stavracos, who called in the original report, described the object as being 20 times as bright as a star and said it looked as if it were moving in a circle with a pulsating light.

Mrs. Stavracos said her daughter also witnessed the UFO and said she had seen another one less than a month ago.

A DeLand resident, Bill Dunn, reported Tuesday he had seen a ‘round light that came up from the ground, made a half circle and went back down again’ while on an early morning paper route two weeks ago south of DeLand.

‘It was odd,’ he said, ‘but I didn’t think much of it until I heard about this one in the same area.’

Samuels said he had kept a lookout for the UFO again Tuesday morning, but saw nothing and has heard no further reports concerning it.”
