U.S. Government UFO Document: Letter from Commander Robert B. McLaughlin to Dr. J. A. Van Allen about the 1949 Charles B. Moore UFO Sighting

Charles B. Moore, a General Mills meteorologist and balloon expert, and four enlisted U.S. Navy men sighted a fast-flying UFO over the Caballo Dam, three miles north of Arrey, New Mexico (White Sands Proving Ground), on 24 April 1949.

Quote from the letter:

“By coincidence, a few days ago I too managed to see one of these flying saucers along with three other officers during a Wac B firing.”

Dr. J. A. Van Allen was  employed at the Applied Physics Laboratory, Johns Hopkins University, Silver Spring, Maryland.
