“¿Ovnis en la noche?: investigan
misteriosas luces vistas por pilotos”
(“¿UFOs in the night?: investigating
mysterious lights seen by pilots”)

10 October 2018
(La Estrella de Antofagasta, Antofagasta, Chile)

The crews of six airliners (Flights COPA 174, LAN 639, LAN 2473, LAN 79, LAN 501 and LAN 577) have testified that they observed several unknown lights in the early morning of 7 May 2018.

The airline crews sighted the unknown lights near a control point known as Livor (off the coast of the city of Antofagasta, Chile). The persons at the control post that is located 380 kilometres east of Antofagasta also sighted the unknown lights.

Chile’s Committee for the Study of Aerial Anomalous Phenomena (Comité de Estudios de Fenómenos Aéreos Anómalos) (CEFAA) is investigating the case, according to the article.

The article contains a UFO photo, photographed by the pilot of COPA 174.

The unknown lights were not detected on radar.

U.S. Government UFO Document (FOIA):
“UFO’s OBSERVED OVER NORWAY”

Date: March 1959
Release date: 5 October 1978
(Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C.)

The whole text of the document:
“The following is the full text of an item which appeared in Oslo Conservative Aftenposten of 16 March 1959 (AM edition):
Several bright objects were observed in the sky near Bergen by several persons on the evening of 12 March.
According to Birger Storesund, of Storesund, near Bergen, there were five of the bright bodies, all of which crossed the sky from north to south. The first object, which was first seen at 2010 hours, took about two minutes to cross the sky and disappear beneath the horizon. In size and appearance, it could be compared to the Soviet sputniks. About five minutes later, object number two appeared, later to be followed by objects three, and four and five.
According to Storesund, several of his neighbors also saw the objects. No sound was to be heard from the objects.
Storesund’s dog, which usually reacts to the presence of aircraft, paid no attention. The objects were also observed in binoculars.”

“A Moment In (Recent) History:
Chet Grusinski: witness confirms
UFO sighting aboard USS FDR, 1958”

26 December 2000
(Broad Top Bulletin, Saxton, Pennsylvania)

Sources: U.F.O. Newsclipping Service, Seattle, Washington and AFU.se

The first part of the article reports on two USS Franklin D. Roosevelt UFO incidents. The witnesses were Chester Grusinski (in 1958) and Harry A. Jordan (off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, in 1963).

Quote from the article:
Jordan on the FDR

From 1961 through December 1965 Jordan served US Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Laffey, destroyer USS Loeser, and aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42. He served in the operations intelligence division on all three ships, to display, analyze, report and record radar, radio and electronic emission data. For this he received extensive training at the Naval Station, Newport, RI.”

UFO News Article:
“Officials baffled by UFO sighting”

12 February 1986
(The Desert Sun, Palm Springs, California)

Source: cdnc.ucr.edu

The whole article:
“The droning sound was so unusual in the quiet Avra Valley that it awoke Martha Ann Grill from a sound sleep.

‘What the hell is going on?’ Grill wondered as she stumbled to the door of her mobile home in the rural area northwest of Tucson.

Airplanes or something in the sky were making the droning noise.

But as she looked eastward and saw the lights began zipping by in all directions at varying speeds without colliding, she wondered if they were airplanes.

‘You never saw such a sight in your life,’ she said. ‘It was incredible.’

They resembled blue, green and white lights on airplanes. Some were in clusters and some were solo. They came from and went to the north, the Tucson Mountains to the east. Kitt Peak National Observatory perched on a mountaintop about 15 miles across the valley to the southwest, and Ryan Field to the south. Others skimmed the Tucson Mountains on their way eastward to the city.

Somebody must be guiding them, she thought.

Last week, Grill became the latest person to admit publicly that she saw Unidentified Flying Objects the night of Oct. 7, 1985.

They also were seen by the most professional of the watchers of the night sky.

Grill is an artist — a trained observer. For years, she was a cook on merchant ships. She has sailed the South Pacific in a 42-foot ketch. She has witnessed some of the phenomena of the sea, including Saint Elmo’s fire, an electrical flame sometimes seen on a ship’s mast during a storm.

But that night last October, Grill was mystified as she began counting the UFOs. She lost count at 36.

‘What the hell is going on?’ she asked herself again.

Then one big UFO slowly flew about 500 feet over her head, she said. It was cigar-shaped, had a light on each side and had a fuselage like a military transport plane, she said.

Federal Aviation Administration radar operators at Tucson International Airport reported tracking about 15 groups of aircraft that night — at least 60 total — as they flew from the Avra Valley area in the southwest, across the city, and out through Redington Pass northeast of Tucson.

Officer Timothy Clark, the pilot of Air 1, the Tucson Police helicopter, saw the lights of the objects cross over the city and leave over Redington. They were going too fast for Air 1.

Officials at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and at other military installations in Arizona have said repeatedly that no military exercises were under way at the time. They said they knew nothing about the incident.

‘Nope, we don’t deal with UFOs,’ Lt. Julie Fortenberry, a public information officer at Davis-Monthan, said a few days after the sighting. ‘We’re not pursuing it.’

Nevertheless, for more than an hour that night, things with lights were seen and tracked on radar screens as they flew over the city.

Likewise, the North American Air Defense Command — NORAD — in Colorado Springs, Colo., had no explanation.

In fact, no one has ever been able to explain what the objects were or where they came from. At least, no one has been willing to say so publicly.

Aerial Phenomena Research Organization Inc. (APRO), an international UFO study group based in Tucson, has been investigating the incident.

Robert G. Marsland, a former Air Force officer and deputy director of APRO, interviewed Grill and others who saw the UFOs. While even he has no idea what they were, he is ‘very sure’ the UFOs were not military aircraft.

‘There were too many airplanes in one place at the same time,’ he said. ‘It was too close to the mountains. The military doesn’t take those risks.’

One major difference between the UFOs that Grill saw over Avra Valley and those seen by others over Tucson was that the UFOs over the city made no noise, Marsland said.

Grill remains undaunted: ‘There was something about that thing flying over that I can’t get out of my mind,’ she said. ‘It’s almost like it was a dream . . . It was just a strange-looking thing because of the khaki, dirty color . . . It still reminds me of a great big moth.

‘It was strange that it flew over me,’ she said shaking her head. ‘I didn’t like that thing. Something was in the air, but no one on this earth will ever make me say those were flying saucers because I don’t have enough information about what I saw. ”

UFO Newsletter Article:
“AF Steps Up UFO Debunking”

U.F.O. Investigator, Vol. IV, No. 2, October 1967
(National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, Washington, D.C.)

Source: CUFOS.org

The whole article:
“The highly-touted objective UFO investigation by the University of Colorado, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force, has brought no change in Air Force debunking practices. It was expected that the Air Force would declare a moratorium and adopt a wait-and-see attitude pending completion of the Colorado study. The actions can only increase public doubt about the outcome of the Air Force sponsored study which is, in effect, being pre-judged by the sponsor.

In the July/August issue of The Airman, ‘OfficiaI Magazine of the U.S. Air Force,’ Major George W. Ogles, Headquarters, USAF, dredged up all the standard debunking statements, including a hackneyed photograph of the Avrocar which has been used periodically to imply that UFOs might be U.S. secret craft. (In reality, the Avrocar project was unsuccessful and was scrapped years ago). Major Ogles incorrectly reported that there are no unexplained radar UFO sightings. When NICAP produced an Air Force letter admitting that a December 6, 1952, radar sighting was classified as unexplained, this case appeared in the next installment of the article as an exception to the rule. There are, of course hundreds of unexplained radar sightings. When these are cited to the Air Force, spokesmen either deny any knowledge of the cases or attribute them to errors by the radar operators.

In mid-August, the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) issued the misleading statement that no UFOs had been detected by their tracking system over the United States or Canada (NORAD computers automatically screen out radar targets such as UFOs which do not conform to known aircraft characteristics, because NORAD’s main mission is to detect possible enemy aircraft attacking the country). NORAD said that 95% of all sightings had been tracked down to the conventional source, an exaggeration which needs no further comment. Why the statement emanated from NORAD instead of Headquarters USAF as official regulations require is not known (AF Regulation 80-17; Section B, paragraph 4).

The widely disseminated annual Project Blue Book ‘fact sheet’,
1 March 1967, a standard hand-out to the press and the public, makes no mention whatsoever of the Colorado Project. Instead, Project Blue Book continues as before the Colorado contract to investigate sightings independently and to grind out counter-to-fact ‘explanations’ in many cases.

A sudden AF reversal after years of debunking was not expected. But if the Colorado study is objective, top Air Force officials should realize that their previous findings may have to be overhauled. They therefore support the neutrality and objectivity of the Colorado Project. Instead, the stepped-up debunking practices cause many people to suspect that the Air Force thinks it knows what Colorado’s conclusions will be. Even if the Project were nothing but a ‘hired’ whitewash job, however, it would seem wiser on the part of the Air Force to pretend objectivity until the conclusion is made public rather than to cast doubt in advance. NICAP does not believe that the Colorado Program will turn out to be a whitewash, but we do object strenuously to the use of such pressures by the Air Force to encourage a negative finding.”

UFO News Article:
“ ‘Flying Disc’ Near Fort Ord Probed”

11 April 1950
(Madera Daily News-Tribune, California)

Source: cdnc.ucr.edu

The whole article:
“An army intelligence agent opened an investigation today into reports by sheriff’s deputies and others that they saw a flying ‘saucer’ near the army’s huge Fort Ord.

Deputies Ted Cross and Jim Matney, a former aerial gunner, were questioned for more than a half-hour by the agent regarding the object they saw streaking across the countryside near here Sunday (9 April 1950).

The agent told the deputies that all army intelligence operatives had been ordered to carry cameras in their cars in an effort to photograph the elusive discs.”
