UFO News Article:
“Authorities Sight UFOs In 2 States”

11 October 1966
(Deseret News, Salt Lake City, Utah)

The whole article:
“Authorities in two widely separated areas—New Jersey and South Dakota—Monday night (10 October 1966) reported sightings of unidentified flying objects. The incidents were apparently unrelated.

Two UFOs were reported sighted in the Fort Thompson, S.C. (my correction: South Dakota), area, both resembling ‘lighted merry-go-rounds.’ The first sighting was reported by Kanabec rancher Roger Huston about 9 p.m. CST. He said a bluish-colored light appeared to be hanging over the Crow Creek Indian Reservation community of Fort Thompson.

This sighting was later corroborated by motor patrolman Patrick Gribbin, Sheriff Lee Roberts and game warden Floyd Gaarder of Presho, all of whom drove into the country to view the lights.

The first object slowly faded from an overhead position to an easterly direction, and two hours later Fort Thompson police said it had brightened and was joined by another object in the sky. The lights on the second object seemed to rotate, witnesses said, changing from red to green to yellow, while the original object went from white to bluish-green to red.

Hundreds of miles to the east, at Wanaque, N.J., at least five persons—three of them policemen—reported sighting UFOs.”

On 22 November 2011, I also reported on this United Press International article. The Press-Courier titled the (more elaborate) article “Unrelated UFO sightings reported.”

UFO Article (Blog):
“Another explosive New York Times
article about the US Navy and UAP”

By Keith Basterfield, 27 May 2019
(UFOs – scientific research, Campbelltown,
New South Wales, Australia)

Basterfield reports on the 26 May 2019 The New York Times
article, “ ‘Wow, What Is That?’ Navy Pilots Report Unexplained Flying Objects.”

The NYT article focuses on the UFO incidents that were experienced by U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter pilots (the VFA-11 Red Rippers squadron) over the U.S. East Coast (from Virginia to Florida) from the summer of 2014 to March 2015.

The Red Rippers squadron is based out of Naval Air Station
Oceana in Virginia BeachVirginia.

The UFOs were sighted both visually and on radar during training manoeuvres off the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. The unknown objects were first detected just after the Navy had upgraded the radar systems on its F/A-18 jet fighters in 2014.

The New York Times interviewed Lieutenant Ryan Graves, Lieutenant Danny Accoin and three other unnamed Super Hornet fighter pilots about the UFO incidents.

The UFOs showed up “at 30,00 feet, 20,000 feet and even sea level.” The unknown objects “would accelerate, slow down and then hit hypersonic speeds,” according to Graves.

For decades – people have seen unknown objects while flying in military aircraft, Lieutenant Graves said.

Graves has talked to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Congress about the UFO sightings.

UFO Article (Blog):
“The United States Air Force’s UFO(ish) Reporting Rules For 2017; The Air Force Service Watch Cell; ‘Unauthorized Air Vehicles’; And The Old ‘Vital Intelligence Sightings’ Back From The Dead”

By Paul Dean, 6 June 2019
(UFOs – Documenting The Evidence, Melbourne, Australia)

Quote from the article:
“It’s been nearly two years since the existence of a hitherto unknown UFO investigation effort, known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), was revealed to the world. The program was housed within America’s Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Office of the Secretary of Defence (OSD), and apparently ran from 2007 to 2012. Some of the cases studied by AATIP have involved the United States Navy’s (USN) massive aircraft carriers and the formidable combat aircraft attached to them. Further, it appears that the Navy has been caught flat footed regarding the reporting of UFO’s and unidentifiable aircraft, and changes to operational doctrine are apparently underway.

On the 23rd of April, 2019, media outlet Politico carried an article titled ‘US Navy Drafting New Guidelines For Reporting UFOs’. Written by reporter Bryan Bender, the piece builds on an official statement made by the Navy’s vital Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2/N6). Various issues are discussed including the apparently sudden need for modernized ‘unidentified aircraft’ reporting guidelines for ‘pilots and other personnel’, and the fact that Congressional briefings by Navy ‘intelligence officials’ on unidentifiable air hazards have taken place. The Politico article, and the formal OPNAV N2/N6 statement which it cites, was analysed by Australian researcher and colleague Keith Basterfield, here.

Of note, to me at least, was a curious admission within the OPNAV N2/N6 statement, and it concerned none other than the United States Air Force (USAF). Ostensibly, the ‘Navy and the USAF take these reports very seriously’ and ‘investigate each and every report’. If they are talking about mundane unidentified aircraft engagements, then this statement isn’t especially interesting. If, however, they are talking about encounters with odd craft, or unusual phenomena, then it’s quite another. Considering that this entire story links itself to recent events regarding UFO’s, and even quotes Christopher Mellon, a former DoD official and UFO proponent, one is bound to assume we are dealing with the latter. And if this assumption is correct, the notion that the ‘Navy and the USAF’ take such reports ‘very seriously’ and ‘investigate each and every’ one of them flies in the face of what we have been told about ‘our’ sort of UFOs for decades.”

UFO Case Report:
“Subject: Ramona, California, October 15, 1974”

1 October 2005
By Joan Woodward, Animal Reaction Specialist
(NICAP.org)

The case involves possible U.S. Navy jets.

The whole UFO case report:
Animal Reaction Feature:
Witnesses noted numerous animal reactions when a circular object flew overhead. The object’s altitude was not estimated, but the object appeared to have landed on a hillside before rising and flying overhead.

·        Horses excitedly whinnied and bucked, one kicked a rail off a fence.
·        One chained dog ran excitedly in and out of its doghouse, sometimes smashing into the back of the doghouse with great force.
·        Another dog grasped the sleeve of a girl and tried to pull her into the house.
·        Goats were reported to be ‘jumping around.’
·        Chickens were cackling in the dark and scrambling about.
·        A cat ran into the side of a garage, stunning itself.

The sighting:
In the evening, after dark, five young people saw a round object maneuvering over Santa Maria Valley. [Checking a topographic map, Ramona, where the witnesses were located, is in the Santa Maria Valley. The valley is described by the local Iron Mountain Conservancy as gentle lush grasslands surrounded by low-laying hills—jw]

After maneuvering over the valley, the object landed on a hillside, gradually turned ruby red, then intensely white. A compass needle alternated erratically from north to northeast in one-second intervals while the object was on the hillside. Then the object hovered above the ground, and streaked toward the witnesses. As the object flew overhead, the animals reacted as described above, the TV had blue spots and vertical bands, the radio would not work, and the compass needle lodged itself against the glass cover.

A further description of the object was that it was ruby red with a blue halo around it as it flew overhead. The sound of the object was described as ‘a mix between a hum an a fog-horn.’ [The distance of the landing site from the witnesses is not estimated. Exactly when the sound was heard is unclear—throughout the sighting or only when the object flew overhead?—jw]

After the object flew over, aircraft the witnesses thought to be Navy jets followed.

Both EM effects and sound were reported. No physiological effects or traces were reported.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO – October 1974: Jeannie, Beth, Linda and Tony Overfelt, and Pat Nelson, all of Ramona, California, had a frightening experience on the evening of the 15th as they watched a mysterious object maneuver over Santa Maria Valley. The object landed on a hillside, gradually turned ruby red, then intensely white, hovered a short time over the ground then streaked toward Country Estates. The object was perfectly round. According to the five young people, when the object flew overhead the horses began excitedly whinnying and bucking; one kicked off a fence rail. A dog grasped one of the girls by the sleeve and tried to pull her into the house.  The other dog, which was chained, ran in and out of the doghouse, often smashing into the back of the doghouse with great force.

The goats were ‘jumping around,’ and the chickens were scrambling and cackling in the dark. The cat ran with great force into the side of the garage, stunning itself. No radio or TV station would work, the TV had blue spots and vertical bands. Tony’s compass alternated erratically from north to northeast in one-second periods when the object was on the hillside, but when it flew overhead the compass needle lodged itself against the glass cover. After the object flew over, some airplanes followed, which the young people believed to be Navy jets. The object appeared to be ruby red with a blue halo around it, when moving rapidly at high elevation. Its sound was described as ‘a mix between a hum and a fog-horn.’
