The 1976 book (published by T.H.A.R. Institute, Raynesford , Montana )
by the authors Roberta Donovan and Keith Wolverton explores the animal
mutilation phenomenon.
In this post, I focus on the animal mutilation-UFO
connection evidence that is reported on in the book.
Unmarked helicopters are sometimes also reported to be
flying over or near (or even landing) where an animal mutilation incident has
taken place, according to experienced animal mutilation researchers.

“A 1977 ‘MUTE’ CHRONOLOGY
The following listing can in no way claim to be
complete. As always, we suspect that we are unaware of many mutilation
incidents. Some are reported to law enforcement agencies, but do not surface in
the press; others are not reported ‘officially’ at all. We are fortunate to
have learned of a few such occurrences through word-of-mouth. It will be noted that
in 1977, as in the previous year, mutilations were occurring spottily but
steadily, but with nowhere near the intensity of the extensive and inexorable
wave of 1975, when hundreds of possible mutilations were reported.
Nevertheless, we can draw attention to one important fact – they
have yet to cease:

“Massive Quantity Of Unreleased UFO
Files Held By New Zealand Government”
By Paul Dean, 14 July 2017
(UFOs – Documenting The Evidence, Melbourne , Australia )
Quote from the article:
“On the 3rd of August, 1985, researcher Timothy Good
wrote to the Air Vice Marshal Ewan Jamieson, Chief of the Air Staff, at the
Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Wellington , New Zealand , asking what the New Zealand
military’s official stance on UFOs was. In a 6th of September, 1985 reply to
Good, Wing Commander S. D. White, writing on behalf of Air Vice Marshal Ewan
Jamieson, stated:
‘New
Zealand ’s Ministry of Defence is not
specifically charged with any formal responsibility for investigating UFOs…
…and neither is any other government department. The Ministry does however take
an active interest in all such reports and within the limitations of its
resources conducts investigations as necessary.’
This official statement, and quite a few others like
it, was somewhat misleading.
In March, 2017, I accessed Archives New Zealand, which
is that country's official national archive and records repository, and entered
a series of keywords into the ‘Archway’ search engine. Using the keywords ‘unidentified
flying object,’ ‘ufo,’ ‘unidentified flying objects,’ ‘ufos,’ ‘unknown object,’
‘unknown objects,’ ‘flying saucers’ and the like, I was surprised to see
numerous hits displayed in the results. Of course, New Zealand ’s government has
already released numerous files, so any search results which included these
items were expected. What I didn’t expect was a listing of hitherto unknown
files, some of which are ‘restricted’ from public access for decades to come. I
should state that these unreleased files were not totally unknown to at least a
handful of researchers. British based researcher Isaac Koi, for example,
discussed the existence of these records some time ago on the internet forum
Above Top Secret, and Keith Basterfield mentioned some of the items in various New Zealand
focused blogposts in 2010.
The first file of note, which should have been
released in 2010, is titled ‘Intelligence – Defence – Unidentified Sightings.’
The record number for this item is ‘244/1/7’ and the date range spans from 1963
to 1976. The current controlling agency of the file is the New Zealand Defence
Force (NZDF), but the original controlling agency, presumably, will be either a
top–echelon division of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), or, one of New Zealand ’s
armed forces branches. Traditionally, New Zealand ’s defence apparatus
has, like most nations, always included an Army, Navy and Air Force. Either
way, the file metadata gives no clue as to its origin. Moreover, as noted, this
file is clearly a MoD item of some sort, and the NZDF is listed as the most
recent controlling entity, so the notion that the NZDF released all of its UFO
files in 2010 is quite incorrect. Having said that, the file is listed as ‘Open
Access,’ so someone in the NZDF has cleared it for release.”

Quotes From Edward J. Ruppelt’s Book,
The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects
Source: NICAP.org
These quotes are mentioned in Terry Hansen’s book, The Missing Times – News Media Complicity in
the UFO Cover-up.
“CHAPTER ONE: Project Blue Book and the UFO Story.13”
“Our policy on releasing information was to answer
only direct questions from the press. If the press didn't know about a given
UFO incident, they naturally couldn't ask questions about it. Consequently such
stories were never released. In other instances, when the particulars of a UFO
sighting were released, they were only the bare facts about what was reported.
Any additional information that might have been developed during later
investigations and analyses was not released.”
(The Missing
Times (Page 163))
“CHAPTER TWELVE: 164.The Report on Unidentified Flying
Objects”
“…, I knew that this was absurd because any ham radio
operator worth his salt could build equipment and listen in on any intercept.
The real reason for the press dismissal, I learned, was that not a few people
in the radar room were positive that this night would be the big night in UFO
history – the night when a pilot would close in on and get a good look at a UFO
and they didn't want the press to be in on it.”

“Australian UFO Science? An internal personal view from a member of the WRE Radar & Electronic Tracking Group (1971)”
By Bill Chalker, 2 July 2017
(The OZ Files, Sydney ,

Quote from the article:
“The evolution of Defence Science in Australia has
from time to time thrown up some interesting intersections with the UFO
controversy. In my previous post The Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO), the
Defence Science & Technology Organisation (DST), the Sea Fury Encounter
and UFOs I provided a link to my earlier research (2007 - 2008) on the JIO
involvement and the legacy of Harry Turner. Part of this was also described in
my Australian chapter contribution to the UFO History Group book ‘UFOs and
Government’ (2012). Both described some of the material that I found in the UFO
files of Harry Turner he kindly shared with me:
‘Other omissions in the JIO file released to Keith (Basterfield) may have been due to typical file attribution effects and file ‘borrowings,’ sensitivities about the material or other matters, rather than any inherent substantial content. For example there is a Department of Supply internal memorandum from the Radar and Electronic Group: ‘Regarding Recent Symposium on UFOs’ which discusses the 1971 ANZAAS UFO symposium. Another describes a sighting by crew of an ANL ship offPipon
Island in 1966. Other
similarly miscellaneous content may lurk in other agency files and their
presence in the papers of a JIO scientist may be just due to a variant on the ‘lightning
rod’ principle.’ ”

Quote from the Wikipedia article:
“The Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO) was an
Australian government intelligence agency, responsible for the analysis of
defence and foreign intelligence. The foreign intelligence assessment functions
of JIO were assumed by the Office of National Assessments (ONA) in 1977 and the
JIO was fully replaced by the Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO) in 1990.
The JIO was staffed by civilian officers of the Department of Defence, foreign
service officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and service
personnel from the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Navy, and the Royal
Australian Air Force.[1]
The JIO also maintained the National Assessments Staff (NAS) which supported the National Intelligence Committee (the predecessor to the National Intelligence Coordination Committee) until 1977 when it was assumed by the Office of National Assessments. The NAS was responsible for preparing long–range analytical assessments of international issues.”

“In a series of reviews, Keith Basterfield describes
the contents of Department of Defence file 529/1/16 Part 1 titled ‘DSTO records
of unidentified aerial phenomena,’ secured through his persistent efforts and
the financial support of UFOR(NSW). The contents were especially interesting to
me as they confirmed the picture I had determined in my research and interviews
with some of the parties described such as Harry Turner, George Barlow and John
Farrands. The DSTO file also supplements the picture described in the JIO file
release which Keith also facilitated.
The files confirm that the JIO & DSTO involvement
were the legacy of Harry Turner who headed up the nuclear scientist section of
DSTI within the JIO. His role was pivotal in the continuing dance that DSTO
& JIO had with UFOs.”

“Defence Science and Technology
Organisation records on UAP - Part one”
By Keith Basterfield, 28 June 2017
(UFOs – scientific research, Campbelltown,
Quote from the article:
“Introduction
In a blog post dated 14 June 2016, I advised that I
had found a file in the National Archives of Australia (NAA), file series
A4090, control symbol 529/1/16 Part 1, titled ‘DSTO records of unidentified
aerial phenomena.’
The file had only been registered with the NAA on 30
September 2015, and originated with the Australian Department of Defence (DOD).
The file was listed as ‘closed,’ with the reason given, being ‘withheld pending
advice.’ This usually means that the file is still with the originating agency,
being examined by them for ‘sensitivities’ before being opened.
I immediately asked the NAA to have the DOD complete
their examination of the file; knowing that once the file status changed from ‘closed’
to ‘open,’ that I would be able to order a copy of the file.
While waiting for this process to be completed, I wrote
to the DOD and asked an obvious question. If this was part one of the file, was
there a part two? The DOD responded that there was no part two. In addition, I
checked to see if the NAA RecordSearch had a part two, it did not.
In addition, also while waiting, I wrote a second blog
post dated 20 June 2016, gathering together what I could find out about any
DSTO involvement with UAP in Australia.
Time passed, until I was advised on 26 June 2017, that
the file had been digitised for me. At this point, I wish to acknowledge UFO
Research (NSW) Incorporated, who donated half the money needed to purchase a
digital copy of this file. Many thanks for your generosity.”
