“UFO at Red River?”

Originally published in Manitoba Pageant (Magazine),

(Manitoba Historical Society, Winnipeg, Canada)

The Manitoba Historical Society presents a 19 December 1832 letter written by Thomas Simpson (at Red River):

http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/pageant/14/ufo.shtml

According to the letter (to James Hargrave at York Factory), the unknown, low flying object (elliptical shaped, emitted firey sparks, flew with a velocity of a horse on the gallop) was observed by the bishop and other credible witnesses in various parts of the settlement.

The unknown object flew from Lake Winnipeg to Lake Manitobah (Manitoba).

UFO News Release:
“Scientific panel concludes some
UFO evidence worthy of study”

By David F. Salisbury, 22 June 1998
(Stanford News Service, Stanford University, Stanford, California)

Quote from the news release:
“In the first independent review of UFO phenomena since 1970, a panel of scientists has concluded that some sightings are accompanied by physical evidence that deserves scientific study. But the panel was not convinced that any of this evidence points to a violation of known natural laws or the involvement of an extraterrestrial intelligence.

The reviewers also made the following observations:

• The UFO problem is not a simple one, and it is unlikely that there is any simple, universal answer.

• Whenever there are unexplained observations, there is the possibility that scientists will learn something new by studying them.

• Studies should concentrate on cases that include as much independent physical evidence as possible.

• Continuing contact between the UFO community and physical scientists could be productive.

• Institutional support for research in this area is desirable.”

UFO News Article:
“Bonnybridge UFOs”

7 March 2005
(The Scotsman, Edinburgh, UK)

Quote from the article:
“Bonnybridge is in the ‘Falkirk Triangle,’ an area from Stirling to Fife and the fringes of Edinburgh that is the scene of numerous UFO sightings. It averages about 300 sightings a year and of the population’s 5,500 people 2,000 of them claim to have seen something unexpected in the night skies.

That something as yet unexplained is happening in the Bonnybridge area has support from an unusual quarter. Nick Pope, who ran the UFO desk at the MoD between 1991 and 1994, told The Scotsman that it couldn’t all be ignored.

‘About 95 per cent or the reports are just misidentifications. But there’s around 5 per cent which are sightings by police officers, military personnel and civil pilots, that you cannot knock down.’ ”
