“Rear Adm. R. H. Hillenkoetter, USN, (ret) headed the
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1947-1950. The Flying Saucers began
appearing in that first year and it can be assumed that Admiral Hillenkoetter obtained
all the available information and deductions about them.”

Admiral on
9 April 1956, and on 1 August 1956 he became the Inspector
General
of the Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy on 1 May 1957.
