Keith Basterfield reports on the fifth and final Department of Defence UAP file (5/3/1 Air Part 11, with a date range beyond 1984)  he has received:

The file originated with Headquarters RAAF Base Pearce. The base is situated in Bullsbrook, north of Perth, Western Australia.

On 13 June 1985, at around 5:15 a.m., Arthur John Barber encountered a UFO while driving south on the Old Coast Road (near Lake Clifton, Western Australia), according to the RAAF file. The bright orange UFO, which was estimated to be about 300-400 yards away, followed the car for several kilometres. Barber noticed the following physiological effects: Heat, upset stomach and smell.

UFO Journal Issue:
“MUFON UFO Journal”

Number 281, September 1991
(Mutual UFO Network, Seguin, Texas)

The article, “Looking Back” (by Bob Gribble) contains a UFO case report about a 7 September 1976 radar/visual UFO incident that involve radar operators of the 754th Radar Squadron at Port Austin (Michigan) Air Force Station (now closed) and NORAD officers:

The whole UFO case report:
1976 ‘Radar operators of the 754th Radar Squadron at Port Austin, Michigan Air Force Station, reported tracking five unknown objects for about 30 minutes early on the morning of the seventh,’ according to Major William Frensley, an information officer at North American Aerospace Defense Command headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He also confirmed that two police officers and a civilian who observed the UFOs from the ground were questioned by NORAD. The UFOs were first reported to the police at 9:30 p.m. on the sixth by Carl Bailey, 28, one of the witnesses questioned by NORAD. He said the objects were ‘shaped like bat wings. There were a lot of them. It seemed like a whole fleet. It was amazing.’

Bailey said he got a phone call at home from the radar base at about 2:30 a.m. on the seventh. ‘They asked me to go outside and see if I could still spot something. I took a look and they were still up there.’ When Bailey reported what he saw, he was connected with the senior officer in charge at the 23rd NORAD Region Headquarters in Duluth, Minnesota. ‘He asked me what the objects looked like. I told him and he asked a couple more questions and then said: ‘Well, the Air Force doesn’t investigate UFOs anymore, Mr. Bailey,’ and he thanked me.’ But Huron County sheriffs deputies Greg Gordon and Gary King were also interviewed about what they saw. Gordon, 24, reported: ‘We observed one object ... It would descend very rapidly, looking as though it was going to land. It would then return to its original height.’

At 5 a.m., two men from the 754th Radar Squadron came out to the scene. Major Frensley said it’s not unusual for NORAD to question people who’ve reported seeing UFOs. ‘We like to talk to as many people as possible so we can correlate these sightings ...’ But the Port Austin UFOs remain a mystery. ‘We ‘know what the objects were,’ Major Frensley admitted. Major Richard W. White, station information officer, later said, ‘Our scope covers hundreds of square miles. At any time of day, we may have as many as 100 to 150 ‘UFOs’ on the screen.’

The 8 September 1976 issue of the Huron Daily Tribune (Bad Axe, Michigan) is the first source of Gribble’s case report.

UFO News Article:
“UFO Reports Aren’t Shrugged Off”

6 May 1966
(Meriden Journal, Meriden – Southington, Connecticut)

The article focuses mainly on the UFO inquiries of the U.S. Air Force:

Quote from the article:
“Last year, 886 UFO sightings were turned in, and the Air Force attempted to track down every one of them. Sixteen of the sightings were never explained.

Air Force Secretary Harold Brown, a nuclear physicist, has said that he will urge a number of universities to form scientific teams to probe in depth 100 selected sightings reported this year.

The Air Force states that, after 19 years of collecting data, it has no proof that U.S. security has been threatened by ‘flying saucers’ or any other unidentified form of flying body. There is no evidence to support the belief voiced by many that mysterious devices from outer space exist.

The astronomers admit, however, that they rarely attempt to scan the Earth’s atmosphere.

There is one exception, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Mass. Its observers state that its lower-tracking telescopes pick up hundreds of unidentified objects which they have no time to check out.”

former U.S. Secretary of Defense (1977-1981)

Brown was Secretary of the Air Force)

“Auburndale Policemen Report UFO Sighting”

27 March 1979 (The Ledger, Lakeland, Florida)

The police officers Guthrie Knorr and John Knapp sighted 5 fast-flying, brightly coloured, disk shaped UFOs over Auburndale (Florida) on 27 March 1979, shortly after 2:00 a.m., The Ledger reports:

Quote from the article:
“ ‘They weren’t shooting stars,’ said Knorr. ‘They were in an old V-formation with two on one side and three on the other. One of them was bigger than the others.’

Shortly after the sighting, a citizen told police he spotted five streaking objects near the city, Knorr said.

Knorr said Knapp called the UFO Sighting Center in Seattle, Wash., to report this morning’s sighting.”
