Two Argentine agriculturalists discovered that their crops had been strangely damaged in late December 2009.

Oscar Braidot from San Jose de la Esquina was the one who first warned of the situation, after he found three spots in his field where the crop was damaged. All the three spots measured 8 metres in diameter.

Sergio Branchesi from Colonia Hansen (situated near San Jose de la Esquina) likewise found three spots in his field that measured 8 metres in diameter on 24 December 2009. The spots in Branchesi’s field were separated by 500 metres.

The damaged plants were completely dried out:
